This city has witnessed many rises and falls. Stone inscriptions of the year 1333 of the Vikrama Samvat (1277 AD) are found among ruins of temples. There are signs here and there showing that Lord Mahavira Swami, the 24th Jain Tirthankar wandered about here. They can provide historical evidence to researchers.
There was a time when this city had a circumference of 64 kilometres and the fort had 84 gates. This city looked beautiful with hundreds of pinnacled temples. From the 7th to the 10th century, talented Jain monk/writer Acharya Haribhadra, Mundas Gani, Udayprabhsuri, Mahnedrsuri, Rajendrasuri and many more created here valuable Jain literature and sanctified and beautified this place. The temple of the 23rd Jain Tirthankar Parshvanatha in Hathi pole area is regarded to be very ancient. This temple has great archaeological importance. A golden idol of Shri Parshvanatha in Padmasana posture is the presiding deity.[citation needed]
Apart from the many ancient Jain Temples across the town, there is a temple of jains called 72 Jinalayas,It is the largest jain temple which conclude 19 years of its making. One more significant temple complex dedicated to Mahavir Swami and Osia Mataji called as Bafna Waddi Tirth is there just outside the town.
Out of 108 Parshvanatha, Shri Bhaya-Bhanjan Parshvanatha also located in the town where thousands of Jain and other pilgrims come to the town and offer their prayer here.

Marble temple of Jains nears completion in Kochi
Kochi, June 23 (ANI): The southern India will soon get a temple made of marbles only. The minority Jain community living in Kerala state is constructing the temple in Kochi city. President of Shree Ernakulam Shwetambar Murtipujak Jain Sangh, the trust that runs the temple, Mohan Das C Jain claimed that this would be the only temple made of marbles in southern India. The temple has been devoted to the 12th Tirthankar Vasupujya Swami. The construction of temple began in 2007. Artisans from northwestern Rajasthan state have been brought for chiseling and polishing work on the temple. Nearly 350 tonnes of marble were brought from Rajasthan for the beautification of the temple. About 90 percent of the work is over and the remaining will be done before Paryushan, the most-celebrated festival of Jain community, in September. The temple has started attracting attention for its ornamental detail and minutely-carved ceilings, doorways and pillars.
Jain / Bhagwan Parshwanath History in Hindi
Bhagwan Parshwanath History in Hindi

yet another discovery of Mahavir Thirthankar idol - now at Iralachery Tamilnadu
Sri Jinaya namah
Dear all
vanakkam
This is about one more discovery of Mahavir Thirthankar stone idol at Iralachery village from Northern Tamilnadu village. This was discovered by Thiru,Jeevakumar nainar of Thirukalukundram. Iralachery is a small village located between Vochery and Kaveripakkam in Vellore district on the Chennai -Bangaluru National High way. it is just 2km inside from the high way. The stone idol is found near a lotus pond on the edge of a newly laid cement road. the elderly people from the village say that there were three such Thirthankara idols with attendant deities (Dharma Devi yakshi ? ). two Thirthankar idols were stolen and as to the attendant deities only broken pieces ( lower part ) alone are found.
as to the history of the Thirthakara idol, no one knows about it. in one voice every elderly people says that for several generations this idol had been there. even their fore fathers did not know about it.. during Pongal , on the day of festival for the cattle ( Mattu Pongal) the villagers pour water over the idol and worship. that is the only ' pooja ' performed by them..Throughout, this beautiful Thirthankar is a silent spectator of events taking place around Him through several centuries. There is a famous Samana( jaina ) hill near by place now called 'Vallimalai ( now under the occupation of lord Muruga )
compared to other regions in Tamilnadu, maximum number of Samana ( jaina ) villages are found in this region formerly called North Arcot district. This Iralachery village is clearly a village abandoned by the Samanas ( Jains) in the distant past or its inhabitants got succumbed to the life threatening developments .There are blood stained pages in Tamil nadu religious history dated back to 6th 7th 8th centuries. it is a natural recollection !!!
Very recently around Chennai ( coming under Kanchipuram District) at several places Thrthankar idols were discovered. Mogapper, Padur, Siruthavur, Meenampakkam, Kolapakkam, Kaavanthandalam, Manamathi, Ilanagar, etc. mejority of them were discovered by Thiru Jeevakumar . All these places have one feature in common . not a single jain is living there. Probably these places were abandoned by them in the distant past .
Thus' Eralachery Mahavira Thirthankara' makes a new entry in the list of Abandoned ones in Northern Tamil nadu.
