The boat will follow us all day as we ride and discover two of Bangkok’s most off-the-beaten path highlights – the “Green Lung” on the opposite bank of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya river and a sprawling fresh market where the locals flock to find anything and everything they need to cook their delicious Thai dishes!
5 Places to visit in BANGKOK (Co van Kessel Guide)
5 Places to visit in Bangkok.
** JJ GREEN HAS CLOSED DOWN SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018! **
If you are planning your trip to Bangkok, you’ll probably hear the same things over and over again. The grand palace, reclining buddha and khao san road. Now we are not saying these places are bad, but we would just like to give you some alternatives.
Here is OUR list of places to visit in Bangkok.
1. Wat Prayoon
The adress is 24 Prajadhipok Rd, แขวง วัดกัลยาณ์ Khet Thon Buri, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10600.
You can easily reach it by the Chao Phraya River Express boat service by alighting at the Memorial Bridge pier and walking over the bridge across the river.
Wat Prayoon is open everyday and there is no entrance fee.
2. Saphan Taksin Park
The address is Soi Charoen Nakhon 13, the best way to get here, is to take the BTS or the Chao Phraya express boat to Saphan Taksin, and then walking across the bridge or by taking the local ferry boat.
3. Airplane Graveyard
Ramkhamhaeng Road | Hua Mak, Bang Kapi, Bangkok 10240,
The best way to get to the Airplane Graveyard is by Taxi.
*Pro tip: Use Grab Taxi, you can write the address in the APP, so there should be no confusion for the driver.
It is open from 9 am till 4pm.
The entrance fee depends on what the family wants you to pay it is normally around 200-400 baht.
4. JJ GREEN

Co van Kessel bike tours and boat tours provides a refreshing alternative to the tired tourist experience. We do not battle the crowds at clichéd destinations promoted in guide books, but turn your attention to quaint local communities and charming excursions into the fascinating lifestyle and culture of real Thai people. Every day is different and every tour is a surprise as we focus not on destinations, but lose ourselves in the enchantment of the journey itself.
Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 30 years ago. As a longtime resident and self-professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (gridlocked traffic, concrete towers, and choking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. What he found, lurking behind the facade of modernization, were hidden worlds of peace and tranquility, a picture of “real” Thai life that has remained unchanged for countless decades; an identity of a city that is true to the Thai people, yet largely unknown to outsiders.
Whether it’s the colorful sights and smells of the local markets, the fascinating life of locals along the canals, or the surprising existence of bountiful green belts, Co discovered the essence of what makes Bangkok one of Asia’s most captivating cities. Since then, it has been his mission to share these discoveries with the rest of the world.
What we do:
Our mission at Co van Kessel Bangkok Tours is to provide our guests with a singularly unique travel experience in Thailand. All our tours use Co’s extensive topographical knowledge of the greater Bangkok area as well as his keen eye for the interesting to take you where nobody else can or will.
We aim not to bore you with talk, but to immerse you in an experience where your individual fascinations emerge.
Bicycles, boats, and our feet become the tools we use to gain access to the previously inaccessible, behind-the-scenes lifestyle of the Thai. Here the roots of an ancient culture will become evident in a way you never could have imagined.

Ayutthaya Day Trip From Bangkok | The BEST Temples in Thailand
An Ayutthaya day trip from Bangkok is completely doable (and easy) all on your own! We left from our hotel near the Sutthisan Metro Station in Bangkok and headed north to Bang Sue Railway Station where trains depart for Ayutthaya every hour. Approximately two hours later, we arrived at the Ayutthaya Station, walked directly west to the ferry, and rented bikes across the river (rental bikes are 50 baht for the day on this side, and you do not have to pay extra to transport them on the ferry).
The rest of the day was spent meandering through the expansive Ayutthaya UNESCO World Heritage Site, quite possibly the best temples in Thailand. We visited four main sites (Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratcha Burana, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, and Wat Chai Wattanaram), but there are countless more that you could spend multiple days exploring. Most temples have an entrance fee of 50 baht, but we attended during the holiday period and were lucky to have free entry!

Thai Road trip - Bangkok's River & Canals Private Half Day Tour 2012
We were very surprised at how different the city looks from the river and how much they depend on the canals
Tuk tuk ride and Ayutthaya visit in Thailand
This was an awesome trip, a little rushed as we went to day 2 after my surgery and we left our apartment quite late and went by normal train (cost NZD1) It is a majestic experience when you are there. Be aware that you need to get around with a tour , a bike ( long distance), a scooter or Tuk Tuk. We haggled with Tuk Tuk driver down to half price, but we were the last customers around.

ADVENTURES IN AYUTTHAYA & LOPBURI, THAILAND
Vlog Ep.78 - Week 12/52 Part 2 - March - 2016
Hello you! In part two of our vlog this week we took a day trip to explore some temples in Ayutthaya and play with the monkeys in Lopburi.
We left Bangkok early and booked ourselves a private car to help us get around. A couple of hours later and we had arrived in Ayutthaya, ready to explore some temples.
One of the best things about the day wasn't the temples or the monkeys - it was the weather! It has been so hot recently in Bangkok so it felt awesome to have some clouds and the possibility of rain.
After visiting four different temples we got back in our car, enjoyed an ice cold towel to the face, and then drove to Lopburi.
Now would be a good time to mention something about Paul: he LOVES monkeys, so it was possibly his best day ever!
The moment he saw the first monkey he couldn't hide his excitement, it was really fun to watch.
Jade and I have seen the monkeys in Lopburi before (I actually vlogged our trip to the Monkey Festival last year) but it was interesting to see the temple again without the crowds.
And that was it, we played with the monkeys, had some fun and headed back to Bangkok tired but happy.

Bangkok Guide: How to get Around – Motorbike Taxi, BTS or Boat ???? (Cost of Thailand Travel)
???? Magic trick: click the subscribe button it turns white. Two years later your dreams will come true. ???? READ THE FULL GUIDE ⬇️
Below is a section from my Bangkok Travel Guide blog post:
___
*What is the best way to get around?*
From the airport:
taxi stand – follow the signs, show hotel address, done. *Don't forget to get your SIM card from AIS at the airport:)
Around town:
I rent a motorbike, and I couldn’t do Bangkok any other way. I just love cruising around a motorbike, personally. It’s around 300 baht a day ($10 bucks) or 3000 baht a month ($90 bucks)… so if you like cruising motorbikes around Chiang Mai or elsewhere, don’t be afraid to explore BKK by motorbike… many tourists do it even for a short stay.
Most people use BTS along Sukhumvit road. Especially during rush hour it will be faster than car. Walk or take a taxi to the nearest station. Motobike taxi, Grab bike, regular Taxi, Grab car, or Uber, depending on if you’re alone and close to main roads where street taxis are around. In traffic, bikes are faster than cars because they can cut thru traffic jams.
I always check Google Maps tho to check the options… it will tell you ETA by BTS and by car. But make sure you compare the ETA from the nearest BTS station to your destination. A lot of the time if you taxi to the nearest station, then BTS-walk or BTS-cab to destination, it will be around the same ETA time as just a cab all the way there, but BTS-cab combo will be cheaper. BTS is only around 30 baht ($1) to the other side of town… while a cab to the other side of town could be around 200 baht ($6).
But at the end of the day, it’s personal preference! There’s no right way to get around Bangkok!
Oh yeah and I forgot Tuktuks! That’s also a great way. Not the cheapest, but the funnest. If you’re going not far, they’re a good option. Make sure you bargain. take their offer price and counter with 50-75% of that… To go only one or two BTS stations away, around 1-2 kilos, it should be in the realm of 50 baht per person. But 100 baht per person if a little farther isn’t uncommon… just bargain quickly and go… don’t fret too much over a few bucks:)
