Lincoln, Nebraska's Gold Star Memorial
This memorial is a tribute to and honors families who have lost loves ones serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The cutout silhouette represents the missing family member who died serving in the Armed Forces making the ultimate sacrifice of life for peace and freedom. This monument in the Veterans Memorial Garden in Lincoln's Antelope Park was dedicated in 2017, the 150th anniversary of Nebraska Statehood.
Doolitlle Raiders Memorial Dedicated - Lincoln, Nebraska
On Wednesday April 18, 2018 a ceremony was held in Antelope Park, Veteran's Memorial Garden that remembered the heroics of a group of Army Air Corps flyers known as the Doolittle Raiders. The Raiders flew 16 B-25 Mitchell Bombers off of the Aircraft Carrier Hornet and conducted the first offensive Air operations against the home Island of Japan, and Tokyo itself.
The raid did wonders for moral on the American home front and served the Imperial forces of Japan with a notice, if the United States can, we will bomb you. By the end of the War almost every major City in Japan had been leveled.
The Doolittle Raid did very little damage, but it might have forced the Japanese to alter their plans for dealing with the Americans and forced them to attempt an invasion of Midway Island, which allowed us to sink four of their Aircraft Carries and changing the power in the Pacific and the War.

Doughboy Statue, Wheaton Il. WW 1 Memorial
This is our third clip in a series showcasing veterans memorials in Chicagos western suburbs:
Sitting in the middle of a lovely park near the train station in Wheaton IL. is this statue erected to honor those that served in the First World War. The war to end all wars, as it was hopefully known as, turned out to just be a dress rehearsal for even bigger, longer, more costly wars. Take some time these next few weeks before Memorial Day and stop at a local park and look at those monuments you usually pass right by. Think about those who have sacrificed and continue to every day. We would do well to question the wisdom of most of these wars but we should not forget the brave service of those who have fought in them.
On our Mindsi2 station we have a series of playlists that trace Americas wars over the past decade. Here is a link to the one covering WW1 It is one of a series of online projects produced by MindsiMedia. We have several channels on YouTube and other video sharing outlets you can access all of them from our web portal at . You can also link up to our Pandora radio stations there and our Facebook and Cafe Press presences. We also have a Facebook page and a blog and more.

Nebraska Stories | A Quilt of Honor & More
A Quilt of Honor, The Healing Power of Husker Nation, Big-Time Radio in Clay Center, Sowing The Prairie, Planting A Sunken Garden
“A Quilt of Honor”
The story of Caroline Boston is explored through a quilt she inscribed with the names of 318 Union Veterans of the American Civil War - from former slaves to an American president. Fate would cause Caroline to make an unprecedented decision that caused her to live an extraordinary life for a woman of her time.
“The Healing Power of Husker Nation”
Hail Varsity Managing Editor Erin Sorensen recounts her difficult recovery after her car was struck by a drunk driver. Husker fans reached out to the injured journalist on social media and in letters. Sorensen even received a signed football from Cornhusker Football Coach Riley and his staff.
“Big-Time Radio in Clay Center”
In the 1920s, a chicken incubator baron in Clay Center started a radio station to market his products. In just a few years, KMMJ turned into a regional tourist attraction and a launching pad for performers.
“Sowing The Prairie”
The prairie grasslands of the U.S. were the victims of the intense agricultural development that occurred after the Civil War. Today, experts say that nearly 99 percent of the original prairie has been plowed under. Volunteers at the Homestead Monument of America in Beatrice, Nebraska gather seed for their own plot of prairie and the Prairie Plains Resource Institute mixes hundreds of species for restoration projects. Through volunteer projects and education, efforts are underway to help prairie grasslands make a comeback.
“Planting A Sunken Garden”
We take a look back at the beginnings of the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln and join a vast cadre of volunteers as they dig deep into the dirt to “wake up the beds” and do the annual planting at this neighborhood botanical oasis.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
Lincoln is the capital of the U.S. state of Nebraska and the county seat of Lancaster County. The city covers 94.267 square miles (244.150 km2) with a population of 284,736 in 2017. It is the second-most populous city in Nebraska and the 71st-largest in the United States. The city is the economic and cultural anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area in the southeastern part of the state called the Lincoln Metropolitan and Lincoln-Beatrice Combined Statistical Areas. The statistical area is home to 353,120 people, making it the 106th-largest combined statistical area in the United States.
The city was founded in 1856 as the village of Lancaster on the wild salt marshes of what was to become Lancaster County. In 1867, the village of Lancaster became Nebraska's state capital and was renamed Lincoln. The Bertram G. Goodhue designed state capitol building was completed in 1932 and is the second tallest capitol in the United States. As the city is the seat of government for the state of Nebraska, the state and the United States government are major employers. The University of Nebraska was founded in Lincoln in 1867. The university is the largest in Nebraska with 26,079 students enrolled and is the city's third-largest employer. Other primary employers fall within the service and manufacturing industries, including a growing high-tech sector. The region makes up a part of what is known as the greater Midwest Silicon Prairie.
Designated as a refugee-friendly city by the U.S. Department of State in the 1970s, the city was the twelfth-largest resettlement site per capita in the United States by 2000. Refugee Vietnamese, Karen (Burmese ethnic minority), Sudanese and Yazidi (Iraqi ethnic minority) people, as well as other refugees from Iraq & the Middle East, have been resettled in the city. Lincoln Public Schools during the school year of 2017–18 provided support for approximately 3,100 students from 100 countries, who spoke 50 different languages.

Grant Wood's 125th Birthday - Joni Kinsey
Commemorate the 125th birthday of Grant Wood (1891–1942) and get a glimpse into what “Just Living” meant for Iowa’s most famous artist. The theme is particularly relevant to understanding and appreciating a painter who both devoted his career to celebrating just living in his art, especially ordinary day-to-day life in midwestern farms, small towns, and cities, and responded in a variety of ways to issues of social justice during the era of the Great Depression.
