Bike tour to the Allgäu Alps, south of Bayern, Germany, using 2 days to cycle the Via Claudia Augusta from Augsburg to Reutte, Austria.
We spent 4 magic days crossing the Allgäu from Füssen to Kempten. Beautiful landscapes, nice weather and wonderful people!

15 v. Chr. zogen die Römer auf den Pfaden der Etrusker, Räter und Kelten und begannen diese zur ersten echten Straße über die Alpen auszubauen. Die wichtige Straßenverbindung prägte die Regionen und Menschen. Heute erwacht die Via Claudia Augusta zu neuem Leben und ist u. A. entlang einer Radroute, Wanderroute oder mit der Postkutsche bereisbar. Über 200 Gastgeber haben sich auf die Entlangreisenden eingestellt und einige haben sogar wieder Gerichte wie vor 2000 Jahren auf der Karte. viaclaudia.org

Füssen was settled in Roman times, on the Via Claudia Augusta, a road that leads southwards to northern Italy and northwards to Augusta Vindelicum (today's Augsburg), the former regional capital of the Roman province Raetia. The original name of Füssen was Foetes, or Foetibus (inflected), which derives from Latin Fauces, meaning gorge, probably referring to the Lech gorge. In Late Antiquity Füssen was the home of a part of the Legio III Italica, which was stationed there to guard the important trade route over the Alps.

Oggi la Via Claudia Augusta diventa di nuovo più e più attiva. Si può percorrere la strada romana in bici, ai piedi o anche in carozza postale. Più di 200 alloggi si hanno adatti ai viaggiatori. Etsch Radweg Via Claudia Augusta
Velotour entlang der Etsch im August 2014 – Scuol-Verona, rund 350 km. Mehrheitlich schöne Tour am Fluss entlang, aber auch teilweise parallel zur Autobahn. Perfekt ausgeschildert, meist asphaltiert, wenige Schotter. Der kleine Umweg über den Kalterer See / Lago di Caldaro lohnt sich. Geputzte Dörfer, eindrückliche Städte und das Highlight zum Schluss, die Arena in Verona.

Füssen im Allgäu in 4K
Füssen ist eine Stadt im bayerisch-schwäbischen Landkreis Ostallgäu. Sie liegt im Südwesten Bayerns an der Romantischen Straße und an der Via Claudia Augusta. Im Osten grenzt die Stadt an den Lech und im Süden an Österreich. Mit ca. 15.000 Einwohnern ist Füssen die zweitgrößte Stadt des Ostallgäus.

Via Claudia Augusta Bike Tour with Charnes Tours
Charnes Tours does the Via Claudia Augusta Bike Tour. For more info see charnestours.com or write info@charnestours.com. The Via Claudia is a bike route that goes from Germany, through Austria, and in to Italy. We started in Augsburg, Germany and finished in northern Italy in the spa town of Merano. Along the way we rode through high alpine fields, past mountain streams and lakes, and through unending apple orchards. We cycled below ancient castles and snow peaked ridges. We stayed in both family run inns and luxurious 4-star hotels. This bike tour is almost exclusively on bike paths. On these paths you can ride side by side, chatting with friends, with no concerns about cars. The tour ends at a spa in Merano. The Merano hotel has a rooftop spa for guests as well as direct access to the huge town spa.

The Via Claudia Augusta is an ancient Roman road, which linked the valley of the Po River with Rhaetia (modern Southern Germany) across the Alps. The route still exists, and since the 1990s increased interest in long-distance hiking and cycling have made the German and Austrian stretches of the Via Claudia Augusta popular among tourists.
