Polish Food - Eating Pierogi taste test in Krakow, Poland
Join us for our favorite Polish food as we eat Pierogi in the form of a taste test (both savory and sweet) in Krakow, Poland.
We found a restaurant called Pierogarnia - Słowiańska Uczta on our first full day in Krakow after shopping for some groceries just across the street. We ended up eating there on a whim and what a pleasant surprise it was. The pierogi served at this restaurant are some of the best we've ever had and we ended up going back several times.
All in all we tried 40 different pierogi for this video including savory and dessert options. It was a feast of feasts.

Polish Food - Eating Pierogi taste test in Krakow, Poland travel food video transcript:
So it is our first day here in Poland in Krakow. In Krakow.
And anyways we've got Pierogi on our minds. We are going to get pierogies. Oh and we're so hungry. We even we're even crossing the river to go find it today. We've been willing to cross a river to go have pierogi. That shows how dedicated we are.
This is awesome. Like this is a gigantic menu just outside of the restaurant here.
So we are kicking off our first full day in Krakow with pierogies. What else?
The most popular Polish dish. This is something that everyone knows about. Even in Canada we've got like frozen pierogi. So it is popular.
They are not nearly as good as the freshly made ones. No. Here in Poland. But yeah. It is something that kind of we are kind of subsisting off of pierogies in the winter in Canada. Yes. When we were in Kingston a few years ago.
It is like a really hearty meal. You know when it is cold out and you just need something that is going to fill you up and sit there for a few hours. Pierogi always a good idea.
But it is summer here but we're still going to have them anyways. We're still having it. Yeah. And actually we had some yesterday at the train station but it was just like a quick little snack and it wasn't amazing.
This place literally specializes in them. This is their menu. And we spotted this place yesterday when we were heading to our apartment so we like we're coming back. We placed four orders.
And each order comes with 10 pierogi so that is 40 pierogies that we're going to be eating for just 2 of us. 20 each!
So 20 plump savory dumplings have showed up at our table.
So we ordered two savory kinds. I think the first one was the Ruskie. Ruskie or something which is the traditional one which is like mashed potatoes and cheese.
And the other one we got fancy. We got like mushrooms, feta and something else. No, wasn't it walnuts or something?
So yeah oh and it comes with like caramelized onions on top. Wow. So let's try this.
We ate 40. We ate 40 pierogi. I feel like we deserve a gold medal in like the gluttony olympics or something.
That was I wonder what the record is?
How many pierogies. Has one person ate. Did we just break a Guinness World Record here?
But that was pretty much the ultimate pierogi taste test. Two savories, two dessert pierogi. I mean if you're going to try Polish food you absolutely have to try pierogi. And we really lucked out with this place. We didn't find it in a guidebook or even a recommendation we just while we were getting groceries last night and we walked by it.
That is going past. Anyways, yeah that maybe they are coming to rescue me because my belly is about to explode.
But anyways yeah I think we'll be coming back here for sure. We've got a whole week ahead of us. We'll be coming back here for pleasure and uh yeah pierogi in Poland guys.
You've got to try it. And price point for this meal?
So it was 56 Zloty which roughly is 13 Euros and that included our two drinks and 40 pierogi.
Yeah, it was pretty good value as well. Now time for a nap. Time for an enormous siesta.

Europe Bus Travel from Budapest, Hungary to Krakow, Poland
Join us as we travel from Budapest, Hungary to Krakow, Poland on Flexibus as part of our Europe bus travel series. Having spent a few weeks in Kyrgyzstan we took a return flight back to Budapest, Hungary but only for a stopover.
Originally we had planned to travel around the Balkans but we quickly changed that to the Baltics after experiencing high temperatures in Budapest and realizing it would only get hotter if we headed further south. With this mind we settled on starting our journey north in Kraków, Poland.
Overall, the journey was comfortable and rather scenic especially as we crossed through Slovakia. Upon arriving, before we even considering checking in, we first had to grab some pierogi. Afterwards we ended up getting super lost trying to catch a local tram because of bad directions.
When we finally did arrive at our AirBNB we were in awe of how big and nice it was. Given our excitement we had to pop open a bottle of wine to celebrate.

Europe Bus Ride from Budapest, Hungary to Krakow, Poland travel vlog video transcript:
Well good morning good morning from Budapest. We are back from Kyrgyzstan. We really didn't vlog any of that because our flight was like at what six in the morning. Yeah. We were up at four. We were so drowsy and we just slept on both flights. Yeah, we were proper zombies. Yes. And we figured it was the exact same journey just back to here. Yeah. But yeah we are going to vlog today. We've made a very quick change of plans. Oh my gosh.
Haha. Originally we were going to go to the Balkans. Yes. And now we're going to the Baltics. Yes because we arrived here in Budapest and it was so hot we couldn't function. And we were just thinking like are we really going to go further south where the temperatures are like mid 30s and even going to be going up to 40s. We were like no that is not a good idea. Let's head north instead where it is a bit cooler.
Yeah, so it has been put on the backburner. We're definitely going to go in the late fall. Yes. But just not now. Anyways, today we are off to Krakow, Poland.
Alright, Flixbus again. Why flixbus?
Because it is cheap. It is cheaper than taking the train or flying. And how much were the tickets for this one?
We paid 11 Euros and it is a seven hour bus ride. That is not bad.
So the update is that we've arrived in Slovakia. I think we're somewhere in the middle. Yeah. And yeah I think we have about two and half or three hours left to reach Poland and cross the border.
And it has been a beautiful beautiful drive. Like Slovakia is man that is a country I'd like to explore more in the future. Mountains and forests.
Yes, lots of forests and just lots of quaint little towns. It looks really cool.
So I do like to know where we are. So we are in Ruzomberok. I probably butchered that fiercely. And we're on the way to Krakow.
And you know what? I think most travelers after like arriving to their destination are just like dead set on like getting right to their accommodations and checking in and whatever. But no not for us. We're hungry and so before we even think about going to our AirBNB we're going to find some food here.
Surprise surprise actually there is no surprise. What is the 1st thing that we're ordering in Poland? We're having Pierogi. Oh, of course.
We made it. We are on the 5th floor. Actually it took us a while to get here because we had been sent instructions and the two trams we were told to take. Yeah. One of them wasn't running at this time. Okay.
But we're here. We made it to the apartment. It is really cool. Like it is so cool.
Yeah, long day. Anyways, we've got wine in hand. We've got great adventures in Krakow so expect food reviews and a city guide and an apartment tour coming soon. Urgh.
Ciao from Krakow.

Why Poland is part of the American power play | VPRO Documentary
Why is in Poland an American rocket shield built? Is Poland part of the American power play and if so, why? Has Poland become interesting for America because of its position? What is it, that makes Poland attractive for an American missile defense system?
A quarter of a million Poles live in the Netherlands. Dutch-Polish journalist Dore van Duivenbode is one of them. In this series, she travels back to her motherland, where she visits her family house near Oświęcim, former Auschwitz. In Bialowieza, in eastern Poland, she tries to find out why a forest is causing much tension. In Warsaw, she gets deeper into the hot topic of abortion. Here strong supporters and opponents are giving their perspective. Her travels bring her also to North Poland, where she meets a low-income family and talks with the famous and notorious opposition judge Igor Tuleya. A travel series about Poland, a country that is more and more divided and cursed by its geography location.
In this episode, Dore first travels to the southwestern province of Silesia. She meets a family that talks frankly with her about poverty in their city. Many Poles move abroad to earn more money. However, because of their young children, they are not able to do so. Through a logging company, they try to take influence and come up for those who cannot afford the central heating.
She also meets the motorcyclists Witkor and Pawel. Those who voluntarily stay in Sokolowsko and are satisfied with their job at the Toyota factory in Walbrzych, even though they earn four times less there than employers abroad. In northern Slupsk Dore meets the residents who live next to the military base, where the American rocket shield is built. They prefer not to talk about the missile defense system, which makes them fear for their safety.
The national shooting school in Slupsk is reacting on that. Young people train there to protect the country against the Russian threat. Where does the motivation of young volunteers come to sign up for this type of school?

What I Ate In Poland
Visiting Wroclaw, Poland included some of the best and most memorable meals I've ever had. Travelling constantly means you try a lot of places and what I ate in Wroclaw truly stands out. In this video, I'm showing you where to eat in Wroclaw and why this beautiful city is definitely worth visiting. I guarantee you will eat very well! I've listed and linked everywhere we went below.
If you love brunch as much as I do (which is A LOT) then Dinette is the place to go. You can dine in or get takeaway at their coffee bar, including bread and treats they bake in-house. The interior is sleek and modern and bathed in natural light. I ordered the Norwegian breakfast - I love all things Scandinavian so it was an obvious choice - and a latte. The eggs were perfectly poached and paired with the smoked salmon, capers, orange, and pear so well. Marc ordered a traditional English breakfast complete with fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausage, and black pudding. A couple of regulars walked in while we were dining which made it feel like a great community spot as well.
If you're in Poland, you cannot leave without visiting a traditional Polish 'milk bar.' During the Communist era in Poland, so-called milk bars were subsidized by the government to provide workers with an affordable way to eat a meal out. The tradition continues today and these simple, cafeteria-style restaurants provide delicious food at astoundingly good prices. The value here cannot be beat. Milk bars are very popular with locals. Be prepared to use non-verbal communication as English signs and translating are not the norm. You order what you want at the front, place it on your tray, and carry it to eat at long tables. I loved being able to try lots of different things, including pierogies, dumplings, chicken, cabbage, potato, and stew with rice. This was hands down one of my favourite eating experiences because it felt so authentic and the value of quality vs cost blew my mind.
Growing up, pierogies were my absolute favourite food so I wanted to eat my fill in Poland - obviously! To this end, we visited a Wroclaw restaurant called Chatka near the old town square. I had traditional borscht which was a really flavourful broth. There were no bits in it so I just drank it out of the mug it was served in. Marc ordered a goulash that the menu guaranteed would fill him right up. It was also delicious (I tried some, of course!) but we still had room for a plate of cheese pierogies each. Mine came with sour cream and Marc had a spicy sauce. All the food was served on gorgeous traditional Polish ceramics that I wanted to take home with me.
One of the best overall places in Wroclaw is called Charlotte and we loved it so much we went multiple times. Depending on what time of day you go, it's a cafe, restaurant, and bar. I love the relaxed elegance of the interior decor and it's a great place to sit and chat, read, or bring a laptop and get some work done. They bake their own bread so I highly recommend ordering a sandwich. Everything I tried was outstanding, however. I had coffee, sandwiches, homemade granola, and one of the best slices of quiche I've ever had in my life.
I have to admit I didn't expect to find such authentic pizza in Poland but we did at a restaurant called Iggy Pizza. The pizza crust is impossibly thin and melts in your mouth. I ordered a white pizza with bacon and leek and Marc went with traditional pepperoni. The whole vibe is cool and the pizza is excellent. Two thumbs up.
Last but DEFINITELY not least is a patisserie/cafe called Nanan. The walls inside are covered in blush pink velvet that makes it feel like the whole world is rose-coloured. The pastries are so beautiful they look like art and you almost feel guilty eating them. Marc's pastry was black sesame and mine tasted of strawberries and cream. We also had an unforgettable cup of tea - one of my favourites on record. It was Kusmi AquaRosa blended with their own syrups and secrets. Sitting there in that beautiful space, eating and drinking such special treats, I felt incredibly lucky and like life was sweet in every way.

Why in Poland abortion is still forbidden
Why is abortion in Poland still forbidden? In this episode, Dore digs into the debate about abortion in Poland. Abortion is in Poland, a hot issue with strong supporters and opponents. The reality is: abortion is in Poland forbidden. However, there are three exceptions to the rule: When you become pregnant through incest or rape, when your own life is in danger or when the fetus is deformed. Otherwise, you are dependent on a trip to a country where this is legal, or you will have a child that you didn't want to have. In the 60s and 70s, it was the other way around. Then women from different countries came to Poland because it was possible to have an abortion. Why has this changed?
In Poland, there is no sex education in schools, but 'preparation for family life.' These lessons are according to the teachings of Polish Pope John Paul II and are often given by priests or other representatives of the Catholic Church. In these lessons, the emphasis is on male-female distributions within the family. Contraceptives and their use are hardly ever discussed - the condom is still sometimes referred to, but often as something negative.
The Ministry of Education is putting Polish schools under pressure to ban non-governmental groups in the classroom. However, the Polish model Anja Rubik doesn't care: she shows cartoons of genitals in fourteen videos (uploaded in October 2017) and discusses themes such as gay rights, masturbation, and STDs.
She also published the book #sexedpl, intending to educate young Polish people about sex and in response to the information provided by the schools. Her videos have been viewed more than ten million times, and her book has been sold 130 thousand times. Rubik has also been so cheeky to send a thousand copies to high schools, where they were not well received.
