Great Viceregal Lodge Advance Studies Shimla TOUR
The Indian Institute of Advanced Study is a research institute based in Shimla, India. It was set up by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in 1964 and it started functioning from 20 October 1965
The building that houses the institute was originally built as a home for Lord Dufferin, Viceroy of India from 1884–1888 and was called the Viceregal Lodge.It housed all the subsequent viceroys and governors general of India. It occupied Observatory Hill, one of the seven hills that Shimla is built upon.

Viceregal Lodge Shimla
Shimla was the summer capital of India during the British rule and the Viceregal lodge is where the viceroy of India would stay during the period. It was constructed between 1834 to 1838 and used by the British till independence, was converted into Indian Institute of Advanced Study post independence. It's a beautiful scenic place and definitely a must visit for all Shimla travelers. One should definitely take the building tour to see some great architecture and to know more about the historical significance of the place.

Within the Viceroy Lodge many significant decisions from this era about India were devised, discussed and agreed upon.

Viceregal Lodge - Shimla
The Viceregal Lodge, also known as Rashtrapati Niwas, is located on the Observatory Hills of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India. It was formerly the residence of the British Viceroy of India. It houses some of the most ancient articles and photographs going back to the times of the British rule in India.
The Viceregal Lodge was designed by British architect Henry Irwin and built in the Jacobethan style during the regime of Lord Dufferin. Its construction started in 1880 and was completed in 1888. Lord Dufferin occupied the lodge on July 23, 1888.
The summer capital of British India was of little use to the President of India who visited it only for a few days in the year, if at all. Professor S.Radhakrishnan thought of putting it to academic use. The Rashtrapati Nivas Estate was transferred to the Ministry of Education to be handed over to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. The C.P.W.D., the Himachal Pradesh High Court, and the Himachal Pradesh University were allowed in due course to use some of its buildings but the bulk of the Estate, including its well kept lawns and rich glass-house, has remained in use for the Indian Institute of Advanced Study.

Shimla is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh and was known as the summer capital of India. This is thanks to the British viceroys who spent their summer vacations here. In this video I show you Viceregal lodge and botanical gardens in Shimla which is a colonial architectural building. I'm also taking you on a tour of Lakkar Bazaar which is the popular wooden market of Shimla. And of course showing you the Ridge - the most popular hangout spot in Shimla and also Christ Church - the second oldest church in North India. And of course sharing this some and shopping on Mall road as well.

Shimla is the capital of Indian state Himachal Pradesh. Shimla was the summer capital of India during British rule. Mall road is the popular tourist destination in India since Britisher rule. Everday local band of Shimla entertains the tourists with their melodies. Most of the houses in Shimla reflects the imperial British architecture Viceregal Lodge is now Indian Institute of Advanced Studies. A house made in the style of Elizabethan and Scottish baronial, Christ Church made in 1857 and hotels made in the early 20th century take the visitors back to British India.
