I drove through downtown St. Louis. This is what I saw.
We begin our tour of St Louis on the corner of Broadway and Cole street, downtown, at the Dome at Americas Center. This is where the St Louis Rams used to play. It’s on the north end of downtown.
We’re going to drive up and down the streets of downtown St. Louis and show you different points of interest. It’s Wednesday, December, 18, 2019 at 10 o clock in the morning.
St Louis had just received 4 inches of snow the previous day, but on this day, the sun was shining bright. On an average year, St Louis gets about 16 inches of snow, so for St Louis, this was considered pretty decent snowfall.
St Louis was named for King Louis IX. The city was founded in 1764 as a French fur-trading village. Nicknamed the gateway to the west, St Louis has more free major tourist attractions than any other city in the country outside Washington, D.C. Visitors pay nothing to visit the art museum, the history museum, the science center and the zoo.
We’re coming up on Clark Street, which is where Busch Stadium is. This is home to the St Louis cardinals, Say Mappy: Did you know: The cardinals have won 11 world series titles. Also on this street is ballpark village on the right, where there are lots of restaurants and bars. On game days you can sit on the roof and watch the games from across the street.
We’re heading west now towards the Enterprise Center, which is another venue where they play hockey games and hold concerts. This is where the St Louis Blues play for the NHL. They just won the Stanley Cup only a few months back.
We’re heading north now on14th Street up towards the heart of downtown. Off to the east, you can see The Arch, located on the banks of the Mississippi River. We’ll go down there and get a closer view later.
We’ll head east now on Washington Street.
The American Planning Association called Washington Street one of the 10 best streets in America. Years back this was a pretty dumpy street, but after $100 million in renovations, now its one of the trendiest and hottest spots in St. Louis.
They say Washington Street is the perfect combination of modern chic meets classic 19th century architecture lined with beautiful lofts, eclectic boutiques and restaurants and exciting nightlife.
Now, we’re going to head south on 6th Street.
In 1904, St. Louis was the first U.S. city, and only the third in the world, to host the modern summer Olympics. St. Louis is home to Anheuser Busch, and Nestle Purina.
Directly in front of us is Keiner (like weaner) Plaza Park, which has a skating rink, playground, fountains and a concert area.
Off to the distance you can see the arch. The big domed building is the old courthouse, which is now part of the Gateway Arch National Park. It used to be where many important court cases, including the infamous Dred Scott anti slavery court case.
We’re going to go back down Broadway and take Market Street.
Now we’ll take Tucker Blvd north again.
This is Olive Street.
Now, we’re going to go back to 4th Street and head north so we can get to the entrance for the Gateway Arch.
In this part of town are a number of casinos.
The Gateway Arch is 630 feet high. It’s nicknamed the Gateway to the West, and is a monument to the Western Hemisphere. It’s the tallest arch in the world and the tallest man-made monument in the United States.
It was built in 1965 for a cost of 13 million dollars.
For $12 bucks you can take a tram to the top where there are windows from which you can see 30 miles to the east and west. People who go to the top sometimes get scared, since on windy days, it sways as much as 18 inches in either direction.
South of the arch now, we begin our departure from St. Louis. We’ll cross the Mississippi River over I-55 on the Clay Bridge.
St Louis is a really awesome city and there’s a TON of stuff to do. This was just the downtown area. There are many other areas to explore. St Louis gets a bad rap for being one of the most dangerous cities in the country, and there are some really bad and dangerous areas in the greater St Louis Metro area outside of downtown proper.
But as far as downtown itself, it’s a great city.

The World Leader in Counterfeiting: Lima's Fake Dollars
Peru is the number one producer of counterfeit US dollars in the world. In 2015, just over 16 million forged bills seized in the US were of Peruvian origin, according to the US Secret Service. Millions of counterfeit euros and Peruvian soles have also been seized by police in Peru.
The forged dollars are finished by hand, giving them an exceptional quality which has earned the country its top spot as leader of this illicit global trade. And for the criminal gangs counterfeit money is cheaper to produce than cocaine.
Fernando Lucena goes undercover for VICE News to expose the illegal trade in counterfeit money and gets rare access to the criminal forgers who show us how these bills are made.

Your body language may shape who you are | Amy Cuddy
Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy argues that power posing -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don't feel confident -- can boost feelings of confidence, and might have an impact on our chances for success. (Note: Some of the findings presented in this talk have been referenced in an ongoing debate among social scientists about robustness and reproducibility. Read Amy Cuddy's response here:

U.S. Senate: Impeachment Trial (Day 2)
The Senate impeachment trial of President Trump continues (starts at 9:55) on abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Senators will consider the rules for the trial and other legislative work is possible.
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 21, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
Today, the Senate will vote to start President Trump's Senate impeachment trial with a resolution that sets up the rules of the trial, including how long it will last and how long everyone has to speak. Each side will get a set amount of hours to present its case for or against the president.
President Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son. The Brooks Family Lecture: Bringing America Together
Arthur Brooks addresses the divisions that plague America & finds a set of strategies to help us disagree better, forge a new model of aspirational leadership, & unite the country.
Tuesday, January 29, 2019
5:00pm – 6:30pm
Filene Auditorium, Moore Building
Sponsored by: Rockefeller Center
No matter what our political views, few people believe our country is as united as it should be. Whether in the media, politics, or even in our personal relationships, we all recognize that the country is increasingly defined by a culture of contempt – in which people treat others with whom they disagree as defective, or worthless. Within this distressing reality, however, there lies an opportunity for our nation. Drawing on history, social psychology, behavioral economics, and the counsel of ancient wisdom, Arthur Brooks addresses the divisions that plague America, and finds a set of strategies to help us disagree better, forge a new model of aspirational leadership, and unite the country.
Arthur C. Brooks is president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a nonpartisan public policy think tank in Washington, DC, where he is also the Beth and Ravenel Curry Scholar in Free Enterprise. Additionally, Dr. Brooks is a columnist for the Washington Post and host of the podcast “The Arthur Brooks Show.”
At 19, Dr. Brooks left college to work professionally as a classical musician (a period his parents described as his “gap decade”). During this time, he toured the United States with the Annapolis Brass Quintet, recorded albums with jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd and others, and spent several seasons as associate principal French horn with the City Orchestra of Barcelona.
In his late twenties, Dr. Brooks returned to college by correspondence and studied economics, mathematics, and modern languages, eventually earning his B.A. while still working as a musician. He went on to pursue an M.A. in economics at Florida Atlantic University and a Ph.D. in public policy at the RAND Graduate School in Santa Monica, California. His doctoral work focused on applied microeconomics and mathematical modeling. While earning his Ph.D., Dr. Brooks also conducted research for the RAND Corporation on theater-level combat models for the US Air Force.
Upon completion of his doctorate, Dr. Brooks joined the faculty of Syracuse University as a professor of public administration. For ten years, he taught courses in economics and social entrepreneurship and conducted research on happiness and the economics of philanthropy. He was the Louis A. Bantle Professor of Business and Government at Syracuse until assuming the presidency of AEI on January 1, 2009.
Dr. Brooks has published dozens of scholarly articles and 11 books on topics including philanthropy, military operations research, the future of conservatism, and human happiness. His next book, “Love Your Enemies,” will be released in March 2019 (Broadside Books, 2019). Previous books include New York Times bestsellers “The Conservative Heart: How to Build a Fairer, Happier, and More Prosperous America” (Broadside Books, 2015) and “The Road to Freedom: How to Win the Fight for Free Enterprise” (Basic Books, 2012) as well as the textbook “Social Entrepreneurship” (Prentice Hall, 2008).
Dr. Brooks delivers more than 100 speeches annually around the US, Europe, and Asia. He appears regularly on radio and television and is a frequent guest host for programs such as CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” He writes frequently for the Washington Post and publishes featured pieces in outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Commentary Magazine, and Foreign Affairs. In the spring of 2019, he is releasing “The Pursuit,” a feature-length documentary film that explores the themes of poverty alleviation and human happiness both at home and abroad.
In the summer of 2019, he will join the faculty of the Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School.
