Newcastle vs Bordeaux: In-form French visitors could pose problems
They hardly set Europe alight with their first Europa League game this season, but Newcastle United get another chance to show what they can do when they face Bordeaux on Thursday night.
Alan Pardew's side could only draw their opening encounter with Maritimo, while their opponents were 4-0 winners over Belgian side Club Brugge.
And it's not just in Europe where the French side are excelling, they're unbeaten in Ligue 1 as well.
SOUNDBITE (English)
ALAN PARDEW
Manager, Newcastle
Our knowledge of Bordeaux is quite extensive, we think we know what we have got. Individually it is nice to get a couple of comments from the guys about them - it just adds to our armoury of knowledge because it is important you have good knowledge of your opposition at all times. It will be interesting to see what side Bordeaux will play. We have a good idea. We think it will be their strongest side so we should know what to expect.
Pardew will be able to call on a number of French players who have experience of playing with and against the Bordeaux players.
One of them is Yohan Cabaye, who joined the Magpies from Lille last year.
SOUNDBITE (English)
YOHAN CABAYE
Newcastle
Before I came here Newcastle was, and still is, a big club in England. Last season we worked really really hard every game to try and play in a European competition. This season we are playing in the Europa League so it is very important to play properly in this competition. The Europa League is good experience for many players, so we have to focus on winning tomorrow's game, so we have to try and win every game and play at the top of the league.
Cabaye didn't play any part in his side's opening fixture but is set to take to the field at some point during the game with Bordeaux as Pardew looks to play his strongest side.
4k virtual walk [Eng Sub] Bordeaux France ???????? : Rue du Loup, by osmo pocket
Hi, In this Eng Subtitled video, we'll walk on Rue du loup which means Wolf street. Starting from Pey Berland tower and walk all the way along the street, to the door Caihau.
Rue du Loup : If the origin of its name remains indeterminate, the street of the wolf has filled the hearts of the Bordelais and its visitors. Bars, restaurants, shops, a small tour of some of the shops that make this street run parallel to Cours Alsace Lorraine and crossing the rue Sainte-Catherine. A place steeped in history to discover or rediscover!

The French City of Bordeaux | euromaxx
Today's euromaxx city takes us to Bordeaux in France. It is home to 235 thousand residents and attracts some two and a half million visitors every year. Large parts of the city centre were declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2007.
At the top of la Porte Cailhau, a Bordeaux historical landmark
Built in 1495, la Porte Cailhau was once the main gate into Bordeaux, France, and helped defend the city. For a 5 Euro entrance fee, visitors can watch an interesting video on the history of Bordeaux on the first floor, then climb to the top floor through a narrow staircase to discover glorious views of the Garonne river and Bordeaux rooftops. Highly recommend! -- French Girl in Seattle

City of Bordeaux, France
The city of Bordeaux is among France's most exciting, vibrant and dynamic cities. In the last decade and a half, it's shed its languid, Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty) image thanks to the vision of city mayor Alain Juppé who has pedestrianised boulevards, restored neoclassical architecture, created a high-tech public transport system and reclaimed Bordeaux's former industrial wet docks at Bassin à Flots. Half the city (18 sq km) is Unesco-listed, making it the largest urban World Heritage site; while world-class architects have designed a bevy of striking new buildings – the Herzog & de Meuron stadium (2015), decanter-shaped La Cité du Vin (2016) and Jean-Jacques Bosc bridge (2018) across the Garonne River included.
Bolstered by its high-spirited university-student population and 5½ million visitors annually, La Belle Bordeaux scarcely sleeps: think barista-run coffee shops, super-food food trucks, an exceptional dining scene and more fine wine than you could ever possibly drink. Santé!

Places to see in ( Bordeaux - France ) Musee d'Aquitaine
The Museum of Aquitaine is a collection of objects and documents from the history of Bordeaux and Aquitaine. In the center of Bordeaux, close to Tour Pey-Berland and St. Andrew's Cathedral, the museum is accessible by line B of the tramway de Bordeaux from station Musée d'Aquitaine. The Musée d’Aquitaine in Bordeaux is one of the largest French history museums outside Paris.
The sculptures of famous people on the pediment welcome visitors to a place where the most famous Bordelais of all is buried. Michel de Montaigne nevertheless wrote when all is said and done, the only glory I have found in my life is to have lived it peaceably. The tomb of the famous author and philosopher is one of the main attractions of the room devoted to 16th century Bordeaux.
Prior to becoming a museum, the building housed the Bordeaux University faculty of arts and humanities for many years. Opened in 1987, this 3,000 m² museum encompasses prehistoric times, Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Black Prince, Montaigne, Tourny, etc.
To discover especially the last two renovated spaces dedicated
- in the 18th century, Bordeaux Atlantic trade and slavery,
- in the 19th century and during the interwar period, Bordeaux port or gate of the world 1800-1939.

Places to see in ( Bordeaux - France ) Quinconces Esplanade
Places to see in ( Bordeaux - France ) Quinconces Esplanade
Quinconces Esplanade is one of the most-photographed sites in the city... and the most emblematic of the French Revolution in Bordeaux with the famous monument built for the Girondins. Located on the river, this 12-hectare square is the largest in Europe. The word quinconces refers to the way the way the trees are planted, in staggered rows.
The Place des Quinconces is the venue all year long for fairs, circuses, sporting events and artistic events. Quinconces station is a multimodal transport hub (trams B & C, terminus for several bus routes, and Vcub share bikes) so there is a steady flow of visitors.
Located just across from and quite close to the river, there are two rostral columns topped with statues dedicated to Bordeaux's maritime and commercial activities. On the side of the Quinconces closest to the city centre are found large statues of the Bordeaux philosophers Montaigne and Montesquieu. Looking westward, the Monument aux Girondins consists of bronze fountains and a column with a staute of liberty breaking its chains on top. This bears witness to the Girondin political faction during the French Revolution. Of course, this has nothing to do with the Girondins football club. Despite an urban myth to this effect one hears from time to time
The Place des Quinconces is one of the most popular locations in the city, with a steady stream of tourists seeking a bit of fresh air and a beautiful setting in which to take photos. Some of them dip their feet into the fountain or even bathe in it, whereas others climb on top of the massive statues- which is nevertheless not recommended
