Travel video about destination Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a fascinating country in Central America bordered by Nicaragua and Panama, a natural paradise between the Caribbean and the Pacific.Located at more than a thousand metres above sea level, San José, Costa Rica’s capital city, not only boasts an idyllic location in the heart of Central America’s coffee country, but also an enviable climate. The extent to which Costa Rica joins with European tradition can be seen in the Teatro Nacional. The coffee barons, to whom the glorious development of San José is owed, created taxes for the export of coffee beans and thus funded the construction of the magnificent building. In a fertile mountain valley at the foot of a volcano, is Turrialba, a town that radiates a serene calm but once was an important station on the route of the Jungle Train from San José to the Atlantic coast. The crater of the Poas Volcano is surrounded by the dense green of a rainforest and overlooks the north western Meseta Central. Although it is one of the country’s most active volcanoes, it is the most visited, as visitors can go by car almost to the edge of the crater. The Rain Forest Aerial Tram is Costa Rica’s most popular tourist attraction, a ride on an open gondola through the jungle. A journey of discovery amid a canopy of trees, hovering at treetop level through the solitude of nature. Fascinating nature, joie de vivre and colonial history are omnipresent on this land bridge between North and South America, Costa Rica is surely one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Arenal Volcano, in Spanish Volcán Arenal, is an active andesitic stratovolcano in north-western Costa Rica around 90 km northwest of San José, in the province of Alajuela, canton of San Carlos, and district of La Fortuna. The Arenal volcano measures at least 1,633m (5,358 ft). It is conically shaped with a crater spanning 140m (460 ft). Geologically, Arenal is considered a young volcano and the age is estimated to be less than 7,500 years. It is also known as Pan de Azúcar, Canaste, Volcan Costa Rica, Volcan Río Frío or Guatusos Peak.
The volcano was dormant for hundreds of years and exhibited a single crater at its summit, with minor fumaroles activity, covered by dense vegetation. In 1968 it erupted unexpectedly, destroying the small town of Tabacón. Due to the eruption three more craters were created on the western flanks but only one of them still exists today. Since 2010, Arenal's volcanic activity appears to be decreasing and explosions have become rare, with no explosions reported between 2010 and 2012. Rainforest Ecotourism

Irazu Volcano Tours Video
Irazu Volcano tours video - Looming on the horizon 19km northeast of Cartago, Irazú, which derives its name from the indigenous word ara-tzu (thunder-point), is the largest and highest (3432m) active volcano in Costa Rica. In 1723 the Spanish governor of the area, Diego de la Haya Fernández, watched helplessly as the volcano unleashed its destruction on the city of Cartago (one of the craters is named in his honor). Since the 18th century, 15 major eruptions have been recorded.
One of the most memorable occurred in March of 1963, welcoming visiting US President John F Kennedy with a rain of volcanic ash that blanketed most of the Central Valley (it piled up to a depth of more than 0.5m). During two years worth of subsequent activity, agricultural lands northeast of the volcano were devastated, while clogged waterways flooded the region intermittently. In 1994 Irazú unexpectedly belched a cloud of sulfurous gas, though it quickly quietened down. At the time of research, the volcano was slumbering peacefully, aside from a few hissing fumaroles.

Mount Pinatubo Adventure.m4v
Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano located on the island of Luzon, near the tripoint of the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga. It is located in the Cabusilan Mountain range separating the west coast of Luzon from the central plains, and is 42 km (26 mi) west of the dormant and solitary Mount Arayat. Before 1991, the mountain has no recorded historical eruptions. It was heavily eroded, inconspicuous and obscured from view. It was covered with dense forest which supported a population of several thousand indigenous people, the Aeta, who had fled to the mountains from the lowlands during the Spanish conquest of the Philippines.
The volcano's Plinian / Ultra-Plinian eruption on June 15, 1991 produced the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta in the Alaska Peninsula. The colossal 1991 eruption had a Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of 6, and came some 450--500 years after the volcano's last known eruptive activity (estimated as VEI 5, the level of the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens), and some 1000 years after previous VEI 6 eruptive activity. A VEI of 6 corresponds to 10 to 100 cubic km of released material (Pinatubo released an estimated 6 to 16 cubic km of ash). Successful predictions of the onset of the climactic eruption led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from the surrounding areas, saving many lives, but surrounding areas were severely damaged by pyroclastic flows, ash deposits, and later by lahars caused by rainwater remobilizing earlier volcanic deposits; thousands of houses and other buildings were destroyed.
The effects of the eruption were felt worldwide. It ejected roughly 10 billion metric tonnes (10 cubic kilometres) of magma, and 20 million tons of SO2, bringing vast quantities of minerals and metals to the surface environment. It injected large amounts of aerosol into the stratosphere -- more than any eruption since that of Krakatoa in 1883. Over the following months, the aerosols formed a global layer of sulfuric acid haze. Global temperatures dropped by about 0.5 °C (0.9 °F), and ozone depletion temporarily increased substantially.

Departure: 7:00 am from Jaco, 12 hours tour.
Travel time: 2:40min From Jaco to Poas Volcano.
The Poas Volcano, (Spanish: Volcan Poas), is an active stratovolcano in central Costa Rica. It has erupted 39 times since 1828.
Crater lakes
There are two crater lakes near the summit. The northern lake is known as the Laguna Caliente (hot lagoon) and is located at a height of 2,300 m in a crater approximately 1.7 km wide and 290/300 m deep.
It is one of the world's most acidic lakes.
The acidity varies after rain and changes in volcanic activity, sometimes reaching a pH of almost 0; consequently, it supports little or no aquatic life. The bottom of this lake is covered with a layer of liquid sulphur.
Acid gases create acid rain and acid fog, causing damage to surrounding ecosystems and often irritation of eyes and lungs.
Lake Botos, the southern lake, fills an inactive crater, which last erupted in 7500 BC.
It is cold and clear, and is surrounded by a cloud forest located within the Poas Volcano National Park.
Eruptive history
Poas was near the epicenter of a 6.1-magnitude earthquake in January 2009 that killed at least forty people and affected Fraijanes, Vara Blanca, Cinchona (the most affected area), the capital San Jose, and the Central Valley region of Costa Rica.
There was also eruptive activity in 2009 involving minor phreatic eruptions and landslides within the northern active crater.
Poas eruptions often include geyser-like ejections of crater-lake water.
We will take the Pan-American Highway towards the city of Alajuela.
In route we will go visit the Agriculture Monument, the Monument to Juan Santamaria and the famous Mango Park. As we ascend towards the volcano we will stop for a brief explanation on our golden bean the coffee, and then continue our trip through fern, flower and strawberry farms.
There is a noticeable change in temperature and vegetation, preparing us for the pleasure of the exuberant cloud forest of Poas Volcano.
At the Volcano we will have time to enjoy the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, and hike on a trail to the beautiful Botos Lagoon as we learn about the different ecosystems in the park.
Considered to be Costa Rica s most visited destination, with a constant flow of tourists passing through, the Poas Volcano National Park belongs to the central volcanic mountain range.
It is located about 30 kilometers (18.5 miles approximately) away from the city of Alajuela, in the province of the same name, and on January the 25th of 1971 it was declared as a national park.
Encompassing an area of 5.600 hectares (almost 14 acres), this active volcano is known for its vapor emissions, small scale continuous explosions similar to geyser activity, and lava eruptions.
The volcano has an area with two craters. The main one is 1.5 kilometers (1 mile approximately) in diameter and around 300 meters (980 feet approximately) deep, with a lagoon that is about 350 meters (1,148 feet approximately) in diameter, and with a sort of cone shape elevation rising over it at about 40 meters (130 feet approximately) that has quite active fumaroles (a volcano opening from which vapor and steam rises).

Manila City Tour Tagaytay Ridge Combo
Begin the day with a drive to the picturesque city of Tagaytay, a popular tourist destination because of its cool climate and picturesque scenery. It is located on a ridge 2,250 feet above sea level, which offers a panoramic view of Taal Lake and Volcano, known for being the smallest active volcano in the world.
A visit to the abandoned Palace in the Sky and find what is left of the “rest house” of the former President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos. Admire breathtaking views of the lake and volcano from this wonderful vantage point.
The tour includes a stop for a brief lunch in one of the local restaurants where you can enjoy sumptuous Philippine cuisine and delicacies popular to the region. After that, prepare for the trip back to Metro Manila.
Our sightseeing tour of Manila starts with a visit to the American Cemetery and Memorial. The cemetery site or the resting place of our soldiers who lost their lives during the WWII, covers 152 acres. This contains the largest number of graves of any cemetery for U.S. personnel killed during World War II, a total of 17,191 and 36,286 missing in action who are recorded upon the walls of the memorial.
We will drive through Makati City, known as the financial center of the Philippines as we make our way to Manila via the scenic Roxas Boulevard, one of the best locations to see the beautiful Manila Bay sunset. This tour passes through Luneta Park (also called Rizal Park), one of the most significant tourist spots located in the heart of Manila, the capital City of the Philippines. A monument enshrining the remains of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal is the park's symbolic focal point.
The next place to visit is Intramuros, known as the “Walled City”. Inside the city fortress are ancient walls, church ruins, and other relics of the Spanish Conquistadors era. Travel through the cobblestone streets to San Agustin Church, a Roman Catholic Church located inside the historic Walled City of Intramuros in Manila. In 1993, San Agustin Church was one of four Philippine churches constructed during the Spanish colonial period to be designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. End at Fort Santiago, one of the oldest Hispanic stone fortresses in the Philippines. This is where Dr. Jose Rizal spent his last days in incarceration and wrote his famous “Mi Último Adiós” (My Last Farewell).
