Wollongong will host the Reebok CrossFit Australian Regional Games at WIN Entertainment Centre in 2012.

A first for the City of Wollongong, the regional games for Australia will be held over a three (3) day period between Friday18 and Sunday20 May 2012.
Participants from all over Australia are expected to compete in the event. Some athletes, who travel from Western Australia and the Northern Territory, are known to arrive a week early to acclimatise, and adjust to local time zones and conduct pre event training.
ABOUT CROSSFIT GAMES
CrossFit Games events are composed of a broad range of functional movements. Functional movements move large loads, long distances, quickly. These movements also form the basis of an exercise program. The goal is to find the fittest athletes and test their capabilities.
The Games season is a three-stage journey. The first step is the Open, a worldwide, inclusive, five-week competition that kicks off on February 22.
The top athletes from the Open in each of 17 regions (worldwide) will qualify for the second step of competition -- Regionals. The Regional competitions will run for five weeks from April 27 to May 27 at one venue in each region for three days of live competition. The Reebok CrossFit Regional Games will be held from 18 -- 20 May 2012 in Wollongong at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
The season culminates in the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games held July 13-15 at the Home Depot Centre in Carson, California. At the Games, thousands of participants will be whittled down to around one hundred of the fittest men and women in the world.

On Friday 15 March 2013, at 6.00pm the Wollongong NRE Hawks will take on the Sydney Kings at WIN Entertainment Centre, followed by the St George Illawarra Dragons clash with the Brisbane Broncos at 8.05pm at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.
Friday Night Live will be an epic night as the National Basketball League and National Rugby League converge on Wollongong to battle it out on the court and field. It doesn't get better than this.
A bundled ticket offer is available which entitles patrons a reserved seat at both the Hawks and Dragons events at WIN Entertainment Centre and WIN Stadium.
Moving from the Hawks game at WIN Entertainment Centre to the Dragons game at WIN Stadium will be easy. Express lanes will be set up at each gate for patrons holding both a Hawks and a Dragons Ticket. So hang on to your tickets after the Hawks game, for an easy transition to the Dragons game.

It was excitement that the crowd came for and it was excitement they received. In many years and many divisions, the final round is simply about the formalities. However, the events that unfolded yesterday left the stadium full to the last minute.
In the team event and after a strong showing all weekend, CrossFit Newcastle who was sitting in 4th place going into the event, saw a chance for a ticket to the Home Depot Center slowly slip away as they struggled to work through the muscle-ups. It was a long weekend, but stronger teams like Schwartz's CrossFit Melbourne and CrossFit Athletic proved why they deserved their ticket.
In the men's division Rob Forte showed he is a real contender this season as he heads to Carson, Calif., with a solid 2nd place finish.
If Chad Mackay's impressive snatch performance got the crowd cheering earlier in the day, it was the battle between Kara Gordon and Denae Brown that really got the crowd on their feet. In one of the most spectacular turn of events, Brown who was sitting in fourth needed a slight miracle to secure her ticket in July, and she got it.

Science and Enginerring Challenge @ UOW
The Illawarra and South East Region Science and Engineering Challenge will be held over two days on the 7 and 8 June 2011 at the University of Wollongong.
The Challenge aims to inspire young people to consider a career in science and engineering by encouraging them to be innovative and creative as they investigate and solve various problems presented to them. The winner from each day of the competition will represent the region in the Super Challenge series scheduled to be held later in the year.
The local organiser of the event Michelina Bajjada said the challenge is becoming increasingly competitive as more schools get involved.
We have received entries from an unprecedented 18 schools this year. Each year the level of competition increases with both new and experienced schools impressing us all with their abilities. I am confident this year's event will be bigger and better than last year, Ms Bajjada said.
The first day of the competition will see Bulli High School, Edmund Rice College, Illawarra Christian School -- Tongarra Campus, Keira High School, Macarthur Anglican School, Smith's Hill High School, The Illawarra Grammar School, Ulladulla High School and Vincentia High School compete against each other.
On the second day Carroll College, Cedars Christian College, Illawarra Sports High School, Picton High school, St John Bosco College, St John the Evangelist Catholic High School, St Joseph's Catholic High School, St Patrick's College and Warilla High School will participate.
The Challenge runs in every state and territory of Australia. In 2010 approximately 23,000 students were involved and it is expected that more will participate in 2011.

Wollongong Youth Services is an important part of Council. We provide programs and services for young people 12-25 years in the Wollongong Local Government Area at two venues Wollongong Youth Centre (WYC) and Kemblawarra Lakes Heights & Warrawong Youth Centre (KLAW)
Our aim is to work with young people of diverse backgrounds in a safe, friendly and supportive manner.
Our team consists of a coordinator, three youth development workers, administration support and casual staff.
