Being the home of the West Virginia University Mountaineers, this is a college city, unique to other cities throughout the mountain state. Located in the North Central region of West Virginia, Morgantown is a city everyone will easily enjoy. Whether one prefers great restaurants, art, adventurous outdoor activities, a one of a kind shopping experience, or visiting old historical sites...there is something for everyone and many are free: Take a walk through WVU's Core Arboretum -- this 91-acre Core Arboretum is mostly old-growth forest on a steep hillside and the Monongahela River flood plain. Go on a scenic drive to Arthurdale, also known as Eleanor's Little Village,, a community that was built and nurtured by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, eventually becoming the first New Deal project. Visit Crimson Shamrock Ranch, a working fiber farm with alpaca and sheep and tour the Forks of Cheat Winery followed by wine tasting. Check out Dorsey's Knob Park, also known as Sky Rock to generations of Native Americans. It is also one of the highest spots in the country.
As for outdoor activity, the Cheat River offers a range of water activities, including fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and especially white water rafting. The river provides perfect entertainment especially during the summer months. Mon River Trail has over 55 miles of converted railroad corridors to trails for walking, jogging, cycling and cross-country skiing. Coopers Rock State Forest offers biking and rock climbing but the must see for this park is the magnificent 1,200 foot scenic rock cliff overlook. Cranesville Swamp offers short walking trails and ample opportunity for bird watching.
Little Known Fact: The Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) at West Virginia University is one of only five personal transportation systems in the world. Powered by electronic motors and computer driven cars and offering continuous service since 1975, the PRT is a unique way to get around the two campuses with five stations/stops.

WOGO--Morgantown, WV Pirate Radio Broadcaster
Back when The Morgantown Pirate was active on 95.5, I would listen to his great mix of oldies on a regular basis. One Thursday night in February of 2010, I decided to take the H4 out into the car with fresh batteries in it and record as much as I could off the car radio of WOGO. It turned out that THAT was the last night that he was on! Here is a telescoped aircheck of what I caught that night.
Part of a series of radio and TV airchecks from the late 1970's to early 1990's that I will be posting here. Aside from a few national media outlets of noteable interest,
almost all of the airchecks will be from the Pittsburgh, PA and Morgantown/Fairmont/Clarksburg, WV areas. Stations featured will include KDKA, WWCP, WPGH, WTOV, WPXI, WNPB and WDTV on the television side and WTCS, WFGM, WMQC and the He's Alive Radio Network on the radio end.
