Our adventure in the beautiful Waimea valley and Waimea falls!!
Waimea Valley, Oahu
Waimea Valley is a beautiful 1,800-acre visitor attraction that is also a sanctuary for rare birds and plants endemic to Hawaii. A trip to this park is a combination of learning about Hawaiian history and culture and appreciation of nature.
Within the park there are 78 reconstructed archaeological sites that show the life of earlier inhabitants of the area. These include religious sites and shrines, sites of former houses and agricultural and fishing areas. Some of the sites have been excavated and restored with storyboard displays explaining their significance. Continuing with the cultural theme, several activities are being offered, including lei making, kapa demonstrations, history walks, hula lessons and Hawaiian games, as well as crafts, music and storytelling with kupuna.
For those more interested in the beauty of nature than the history of man, the park is home to a spectacular botanical collection. This 150-acre site contains more than 5,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants, including native and endangered Hawaiian plants. Visitors can take a self-guided walking tour through the garden.
Educational brochures and plaques provide information along these easy, paved trails. Throughout the park visitors also get the chance to see native and endangered bird species, including the 'alae'ula. Four of the five species of the native 'o'opu freshwater fish can also be spotted in Kamananui Stream.
Perhaps the biggest attraction in Waimea Valley, and focal point of the park, is the 45-foot (13.7 m) Waimea Falls. Visitors can refresh themselves in the cool waters of the pool.

OAHU | The BEST Hawaiian island??
For years Oahu has been my favourite of the Hawaiian islands. With the impressive hikes, delicious food, friendly locals and countless activities, this is without a doubt my favourite place, not just in the Hawaiian islands, but on the planet.
Just a few of the activities on offer area featured here, activities such as;
Dolphin Excursions, the best operator on Oahu! I absolutely cannot recommend this tour enough. They are a very professional, fun group of people who respect the dolphins and press upon you the importance of being respectful in your wildlife encounter. No chasing, no diving, just an organic experience where the dolphins are free to come and go as they please.
Shark cage diving on the north shore. These guys are also excellent with how they manage your tour. No chumming of the waters, no scare tactics, just lots of information, safety briefings, and an incredible time in the ocean with these apex predators;
Open door helicopter tour with Magnum Helicopters. Doors off is truly the way to go when overflying any of your favourite spots, immersing yourself in the experience, perhaps a little chilly, but will provide the most unforgettable experience. Your pilot has so much information about the history of the island to share, and will point out all of the must see places on island, this is one of the most perfect activities to include early on in your visit to Oahu, get the lay of the land and orientate yourself in your new found paradise;
Do you have questions about events you'd like to do, or places that you see? Drop a comment and I will be happy to help!

Hawaii Ecotourism Hot Spot Waimea Valley, North Shore Oahu, Voluntourism
- Hawaii Eco Tourism (ecotourism) Hot Spot Waimea Valley, North Shore Oahu
Ecotourism is responsible travel to fragile, pristine, and usually protected areas that strive to be low impact and (often) small scale (as an alternative to mass tourism). Its purpose is to educate the traveler; provide funds for ecological conservation; directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities; and foster respect for different cultures and for human rights. Since the 1980s ecotourism has been considered a critical endeavor by environmentalists, so that future generations may experience destinations relatively untouched by human intervention.[1] Several university programs use this description as the working definition of ecotourism.[2]
Generally, ecotourism focuses on volunteering, or voluntourism, personal growth and environmental responsibility. Ecotourism typically involves travel to destinations where flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. One of the goals of ecotourism is to offer tourists insight into the impact of human beings on the environment, and to foster a greater appreciation of our natural habitats.
Responsible ecotourism includes programs that minimize the negative aspects of conventional tourism on the environment and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, an integral part of ecotourism is the promotion of recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creation of economic opportunities for local communities.[3] For these reasons, ecotourism often appeals to environmental and social responsibility advocates.
This garden is part of Waimea Valley's effort to provide protective cultivation for our rarest native plants, studying propagation techniques and keeping accurate records, all in hope of restoring self-sustaining plant communities for future generations to enjoy.
