Thorium: An energy solution - THORIUM REMIX 2011
Thorium is plentiful & can be used to generate energy without creating transuranic wastes. Thorium's capacity as nuclear fuel was discovered during WW II, but ignored because it was unsuitable for making bombs. A liquid-fluoride thorium reactor (LFTR) is the optimal approach for harvesting energy from Thorium, and has the potential to solve today's energy/climate crisis. LFTR is a type of Thorium Molten Salt Reactor (Th-MSR). This video summarizes over 6 hours worth of thorium talks given by Kirk Sorensen and other thorium technologists.
THORIUM REMIX 2011 starts with a 5 minute TL;WL summary, to hold you over until you find your Ritalin. YouTube Closed Captioning is available in English, and many other languages.

Q: What is thorium and what makes it special?
A: Thorium is a naturally-occuring mineral that holds large amounts of releasable nuclear energy, similar to uranium. This nuclear energy can be released in a special nuclear reactor designed to use thorium. Thorium is special because it is easier to extract this energy completely than uranium due to some of the chemical and nuclear properties of thorium.
Q: What is a liquid-fluoride reactor?
A: A liquid-fluoride nuclear reactor is different than conventional nuclear reactors that use solid fuel elements. A liquid-fluoride reactor uses a solution of several fluoride salts, typically lithium fluoride, beryllium fluoride, and uranium tetrafluoride, as its basic nuclear fuel. The fluoride salts have a number of advantages over solid fuels. They are impervious to radiation damage, they can be chemically processed in the form that they are in, and they have a high capacity to hold thermal energy (heat). Additional nuclear fuel can be added or withdrawn from the salt solution during normal operation.
Q: Are the salts safe?
A: Very safe. Unlike other coolants considered for high-performance reactors (like liquid sodium) the salts will not react dangerously with air or water. This is because they are already in their most stable chemical form. Their properties do not change even under intense radiation, unlike all solid forms of nuclear fuel.
Q: What is nuclear waste and how does a liquid-fluoride reactor address this issue?
A: So-called nuclear waste or spent-nuclear fuel is produced in conventional (solid-core) nuclear reactors because they are unable to extract all of the nuclear energy from their fuel before they have to shutdown. LFTR addresses this issue by using a form of nuclear fuel (liquid-fluoride salts of thorium) that allow complete extraction of nuclear energy from the fuel.

Behind the scenes restoration look of the Nogales City Hall Building's Seth Thomas Tower Clock
Master Horologists Galen and Tim Gudenkauf have restored the 1914 Nogales City Hall Building's Seth Thomas Tower Clock which can be found in Historic Downtown Nogales, Arizona. It's one of the few working tower clocks left in the United States.
The rare time piece was presented to the pre-established town of Nogales in 1915 and has run most of the time since. For more than a decade, however, it sat idle. The father and son team, along with volunteers got it ticking again in January—in time for the building's centennial ceremony.
The project was funded by a Tohono O'odham Nation grant and moved forward by the City of Nogales.
You can see the clock tower by visiting the Pimeria Alta Historical Society Museum at 136 North Grand Avenue, Nogales, AZ 85621. Call (520) 287-4621 for information or visit their TripAdvisor page at

President Moon embarks on four-day- trip to Washington D.C.
문재인 대통령 출국 (출국후)
President Moon Jae-in is heads to Washington for the first South Korea-U.S. summit since the two leaders took office.
Let's start things off with a rundown of his jam-packed schedule at the capital.
Here's Hwang Ho-jun.
After a roughly 14-hour-flight, President Moon will arrive on Wednesday afternoon Eastern Time, and start his four-day itinerary by laying a wreath at the Changjin Reservoir Battle Monument at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, honoring those who died in one of the Korean War's fiercest battles.
It's likely to be a personal event for President Moon since the battle enabled the safe evacuation of tens of thousands of civilians from Hungnam, North Korea.
President Moon's parents were among those who were saved.
On Wednesday evening, President Moon will attend a dinner co-hosted by the South Korean and U.S. chambers of commerce, a symbolic event to display the importance of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The following day, President Moon will have separate meetings with the leaders of the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives,... and in the evening, along with his wife, First Lady Kim Jung-sook, he will attend a dinner hosted by the first couple of the U.S. at the White House,... just the second White House dinner President Trump and his wife Melania have held so far.
On Friday, President Moon will be visiting the Korean War Veterans Memorial with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence,... and then the historical bilateral summit between the two leaders will begin.
It will be followed by a joint press conference where both Presidents Moon and Trump will read their own statements on their evaluation of the meeting.
Following the briefing will be lunch with Vice President Pence, and then President Moon will visit the Center for Strategic and International Studies,... a think tank concerning political, economic, and security issues around the world,.... to deliver a speech.
And finally, on Saturday, President Moon will head back to South Korea after holding a meeting with local Korean Americans.
He's expected to arrive in Seoul on Sunday, Korea time.
President Moon previously said he won't get too caught up in bringing home results,.... but rather focus on establishing a foundation of friendship and mutual trust with President Trump.

Cine - 234 West Hancock Avenue
Located in the old Snow Tire Recap Plant building, Cine is one of Athens newest entertainment venues. The two-screen art house theater shows new films both foreign and domestic along with many timeless classics. The theater has also hosted many local film festivals. Since the 1940s this West Hancock building has served as a post office extension, car show room, and most recently the Snow Tire Recap plant before it housed Cine. Cine represents an excellent example of a rehabilitation project that utilizes a historic building. Cines owner went to great lengths during the rehabilitation, even retaining graffiti that commemorates the relationship that the building has to Athens skating scene. Skaters used to frequent a free park that once occupied the space where the Athens Chamber of Commerce building is now.
