An enormous dragon scales the walls of the 17-story Wat Samphran Temple, which is rarely featured in guidebooks and is considerably removed from the typical tourist track. The dragon itself is hollow, and you can walk the entire length of the tower inside its body.

Dragon Temple in Sam Phran Nakhon Pathom Thailand
Wat Samphran (Thai วัดสามพราน) is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Amphoe Sam Phran, Nakhon Pathom province, around 40 kilometers to the west of Bangkok. The temple was officially registered in 1985.[1]
The temple is notable for its 17-story tall pink cylindrical building with a gigantic red-and-green dragon sculpture curling around the entire height. The interior of the dragon sculpture contains a spiraling flight of stairs, which has however deteriorated to a poor condition in places. It also contains a huge Buddha statue as well as many additional Buddhist statues.

I first saw this giant dragon temple via Instagram (typical I know) so my girlfriend June and I headed out an hour west of Bangkok to the Nakhon Pathom Province of Thailand to explore Wat Samphran Dragon Temple. Also, there's a pretty awesome boat noodle spot we checked out a long the way.

Wat Samphran (Dragon Temple) Thailand
We had never heard about this epic dragon temple in Thailand before, until recently. We decided we had to check Wat Samphran out ourselves and drove by motorbike from Bangkok - just an hour drive! This crazy temple is located in Nakhon Pathom and is yet undiscovered. During our visit we were the only tourists and the locals who maintain the temple were welcoming us with the biggest smiles. We can highly recommend visiting Wat Samphran!

The UNIQUE and MYSTERIOUS DRAGON TEMPLE in Bangkok, Thailand - Wat Samphran
The exotic Wat Samphran can make for a cool half day adventure while in Bangkok.
The city has plenty of beautiful temples but this is one of a kind.
They way to the top is made inside the curling dragon not inside the actual building, what gives an extra wonder to it.
A giant rabbit and other intriguing statues are harmoniously distributed around the temple and its garden, a lovely detailed work.
It is located 40 km from the city center so it fits better the schedule of those who are staying for a few days.

???????? Wat Samphran Dragon Temple, Nakhon Pathom
During my riding trips west of Bangkok, came across this rather odd looking Buddhist temple. The temple complex has a giant golden Buddha statue, several shrines and smaller statues within, but the one that draws the eyes of tourists is a 17-storey pink tower with an enormous dragon wrapped around it. The dragon is hollow and it is possible to climb through its body all the way to the top and enjoy the views.

About 40 km west of Bangkok lies the district of Samphran, where there is a rather odd-looking Wat or Buddhist temple. The temple complex has a giant golden Buddha statue and several shrines and smaller statues within, but the one that draws the eyes of tourists is a 17-storey pink tower with an enormous dragon wrapped around it. The dragon is hollow and is possible to climb through its body all the way to the top, but the stairs are in such poor condition that only a few isolated sections of the dragon are safe to climb. Some parts of the temple are also closed to the public or to foreigners.
Located off the beaten track, Wat Samphran is rarely mentioned in guide books and remains unmarked on maps. It’s not a big tourist attraction but many travellers who visited the temple spoke about its tranquil and spiritual atmosphere. Who designed it or when it was built is a mystery.

Explore the Great Dragon Temple - Wat Samphran
Wat Samphran reminds me of my childhood watching Dragon Ball Z. This 17-storey temple is sculpted with a gigantic dragon. The dragon's body is hollow where you can walk, and it is the only way to go up and down the temple.
GETTING TO THE TEMPLE:
We opted to take Grab Car to visit the temple, which costs us 400baht for one way. It's a one hour drive to Nakhon Pathom which is about 50km from Bangkok center.
