A special thanks to William McCabe for the information on the history of the village. The Waterloo Village has been getting restored to its former glory. Like all restorations, it will take time. The old photos that are in the buildings help recreate in your mind what some of the villages looked like. I could not bring ya'll and photos of the photos due to they have a rule about not taking any photos from the inside of any building and we didn't receive a broacher of the village. Even so, it is still a nice place to visit and they accomplished great engineering feats 400 years ago. The Elbląg Canal, one of Seven Wonders of Poland, used the Morris Canal's technology as inspiration for its inclined planes; for that reason, the inclined planes on that canal strongly resemble those on the Morris canal. With a total elevation change of more than 900 feet (270 m), the canal was considered an ingenious technological marvel for its use of water-driven inclined planes, the first in the United States, to cross the northern New Jersey hills

Waterloo Village Commercial, Stanhope NJ, 1984
Here's a fun thing to do if you like crafts, old-timey fun and also happen to have a time machine--The Waterloo Village Craft Show! Wouldn't you like to bend the laws of the universe in order to visit New Jersey in September of '84? Although I guess you could just go back to whatever era they're trying to recreate there. Maybe just watch the commercial, then go back in time to the real Waterloo and razz Napoleon a little. This is on trade compilation 34 at oldtvads.blogspot.com...
Tour of Abandoned Waterloo Village A Restored Canal Town In Byram New Jersey
A walking tour of Waterloo Village which is a restored 19th century canal town in Byram Township, Sussex County in northwestern New Jersey, United States. The community was approximately the half-way point in the roughly 102-mile trip along the Morris Canal, which ran from Jersey City (across the Hudson River from Manhattan, New York) to Phillipsburg, New Jersey, (across the Delaware River from Easton, Pennsylvania). Waterloo possessed all the accommodations necessary to service the needs of a canal operation, including an inn, a general store, a church, a blacksmith shop (to service the mules on the canal), and a watermill. For canal workers, Waterloo's geographic location would have been conducive to being an overnight stopover point on the two-day trip between Phillipsburg and Jersey City.
Waterloo Village
A beautiful October, 2010 day in the Garden State. Liz and I visited Waterloo Village. We experienced the history of this 18th and 19th Century village and the way it used its section of a great canal and the commerce it stimulated.
Every which way we looked, we saw landscapes that you would see depicted on jigsaw puzzle boxes.
Simply breathtaking!

Morristown, New Jersey - Morristown National Historical Park - Ford Mansion & Museum HD (2016)
Morristown National Historical Park is a United States National Historical Park, consisting of three sites important during the American Revolutionary War: Jockey Hollow, the Ford Mansion, and Fort Nonsense.
The sites are located in Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey.
With its establishment in March 1933, Morristown became the country's first National Historical Park.
The Ford Mansion, in Morristown proper, was the site of the hard winter (December 1779 – May 1780) quarters of George Washington and the Continental Army. That winter remains the coldest on record for New Jersey. Theodosia Ford, widow of Jacob Ford Jr., and her four children shared their household with Washington, his staff, including Alexander Hamilton, along with their servants and sometimes, their family members. Martha Washington traveled to Morristown to spend the winter with her husband.
Washington's Headquarters Museum, the adjacent museum is open to the public Wednesday thru Sunday from September–June and seven days a week from July- August from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The museum has three exhibit rooms and a sales area. A video production Morristown: Where America Survived (New Jersey Network/2009) is shown. The Ford Mansion is shown only by guided tour which begin in the Museum. The Museum hosted one of the events of the CelebrateHAMILTON 2015 program: hosted by the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, a talk by Author and Historian Michael E. Newton - Hamilton's Revolutionary War Services, who also presented his book Alexander Hamilton: The Formative Years. at the same event.

Kayak NJ Waterloo Village Section of the Musky
Crisp December day for a paddle on the Musky. Paddled from just below the Rout 80 overpass up to Waterloo Village. Got out of the boat and hiked around the dam a bit. Such a nice area to explore. Landed my kayak right in front of an old stone foundation of some sort. Up in the woods stood a creepy looking worn down house. Across the river stood the historic buildings of Waterloo Village. Above the dam is Waterloo Lake with an old rickety bridge. There are all sorts of trails that criss cross the woods along with tons of pricker bushes and other bushes that can stick you. Great day exploring this section of the Musky!
