Places to see in ( Spean Bridge - UK )
Spean Bridge is a village in the parish of Kilmonivaig, in the Highland region of Scotland. The village takes its name from the Highbridge over the River Spean on General Wade's military road between Fort William and Fort Augustus, and not from Telford's bridge of 1819 which carries the A82 over the river at the heart of the village.
Lying in the Great Glen, Spean Bridge has transport links north towards Inverness and south to Fort William, provided by the A82, and the A86 heads east to join the A9 at Kingussie. The village is served by the Spean Bridge railway station providing links to Glasgow, London, and Mallaig and between 1903 and 1933 it offered a branch line service to Fort Augustus. The Highbridge Skirmish on 16 August 1745 was the first engagement of the Jacobite Rising of 1745.
The Commando Memorial, dedicated to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during Second World War, is located approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) north-west of Spean Bridge, at the junction of the A82 and the B8004. It overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle. Lochaber Camanachd is the shinty club based in the village of Spean Bridge.

The Highlands & Islands Railtour Day 7 at Spean Bridge Station 2019
We were lucky enough to see The Mayflower hauling The Highlands & Islands Railtour run by The Steam Dreams Rail company. We saw the train on day 7 of it's journey through Scotland. On this day the train was running from Fort William to Penrith . We saw the train at Spean Bridge Station where it paused to take on a top up of water before waiting for the Caledonian sleeper train to pass before departing .
I was lucky enough to be able to go on to the cab while the engine took on water ;D It really made my day :D
I was also introduced to Bob the trains mascot :D I captured his photo through the window for you to see him ;D
Mayflower 61306
The B1's were designed as mixed traffic locomotives capable of hauling express passenger trains as well as freight traffic. As powerful, go anywhere engines, the B1's worked across most of the UK rail network from East Anglia to Scotland.

Scotland Beat England For The First Time Ever | Scotland v England ODI 2018 - Highlights
Follow the latest from the camp at ecb.co.uk/england/men
Scotland secured the biggest win in their cricketing history with a stunning six-run defeat of England. Callum MacLeod hit a brilliant 140 not out, and took the home side to 371-5 in glorious batting conditions in Edinburgh. Jonny Bairstow's 54-ball century looked to have England on course to clinch it, until they slipped from 220-2 to 276-7 with ultimately too much to do.

They Found a Frozen Girl But What Happened Next Shocked Everyone
Have you ever heard a story and thought, “No way is that actually possible!” Well, some people have lived through the most impossible and extreme situations that it’s kinda hard to wrap your head around it! Take, for instance, the story of Jean Hilliard. This 19-year-old woman was found frozen solid, and (get this) she managed to survive!

SUMMARY:
- Jean Hilliard was found frozen solid and rushed her to the hospital. Her skin was completely frozen, her eyes weren’t reacting to any light, but she was alive! Her pulse was only 12 beats per minute, and her body temperature was just 88°F.
- When explosives used to clear the way to build a railroad went off early, a huge iron rod was sent right through Gage’s head! He didn’t even seem phased by the whole thing! He casually chatted with people who walked passed him while waiting for the doctor to arrive.
- The next story is about a few friends who were all relaxing in a hammock. When hey went back in the house, a huge branch snapped and fell on the hammock in the exact spot where they would’ve been lying!
- The pilot didn’t strap Gursky properly to the glider. The man did fall, but he grabbed onto the pole and the pilot’s shoulder just in time to catch himself. Gursky had to hold on to dear life with all his strength for a whole 3 minutes before the pilot could attempt to land safely.
- Have you ever heard the saying “lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice”? I guess it’s still true, but nobody said anything about it striking the same person twice…or even 7 times!
- A man named Joe Simpson was climbing in the Peruvian Andes. Something went horribly wrong and Simpson broke his leg. It took him four days to make the journey. He wrote a book about his experience, and that then became the 2003 movie.

National Cycle Network Route 7 Rob Roy Way Guide Callander Lochearnhead Glen Ogle Killin
Intended as a one-off ride and video, this turned out to be first in a growing series covering cycling in the highlands of Scotland - Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 7 Lochs and Glens North (Glasgow - Inverness). Watch for new sections as they get added. The routes are all done as return trips so you can see the conditions and scenery in both directions and are intended to give you a feel for the route, gradient and surface - as well as showcasing the beautiful scenery
**UPDATE 4 June 2016. The sometimes muddy 2 miles beside the Falls of Leny is now supersmooth tarmac. Nice. The steep rocky hairpins 1 mile south of Strathyre are still impossible except on an mtb. That's my vote for the next improvement. **.
Cycling in Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park – the Rob Roy Way - Callander to Killin via Falls of Leny, Loch Lubnaig, Strathyre, Lochearnhead and Glen Ogle Viaduct – and a return trip via Balquhidder. Total distance 47 miles round trip (44 if you exclude Balquhidder on the return)
If like me you’ve driven up the A85 to Killin, and spotted cyclists on the Glen Ogle viaduct and wondered what its like, or maybe you are planning a holiday in Scotland are looking for a Scenic off road cycle route - this video is for you.
It answers all the essentials about the route:
What’s the gradient like- how steep?
How high?
How far?
What’s the surface like - tarmac, light/heavy gravel, dirt?
Do I need a mountain bike? Can I rollerblade on any of it?
Shot 10 and 19 April 2015 for the best unobstructed views (no leaves on the trees yet)
GoPro Hero 4 Silver
Additional material Lumix TZ30
Aerial shots with DJI Phantom 2, GoPro Hero 3+ black, ZenmuseHD-3D gimbal
Edited with Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13. No stabilisation (it cuts the field of view). Unfortunately this is resulting in really bad Youtube compression artifacts after upload - Maybe try chest mount next time.
Chest mount didn't help ... but a helpful comment on another video did ... disabling resampling in the editor has removed ghosting and pretty sure has reduced the bits needed for a clear picture. Too late for this one but good for the others.

Cycled with a Specialized Allez Elite road bike with 23c mondo slicks– NOT recommended, but bike was OK.

Look out for the wooley jumper at the end.

Pakistan will make History in England Sarfraz Ahmed Interview |PCB| Pak Vs Eng
he one-off Twenty20 International between England and Pakistan on Sunday, 5 May, will help the teams get into match mode before they throw themselves completely into preparation for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019.
Overview
England v Pakistan
One-off T20I
Cardiff Wales Stadium
Sunday, 5 May; 2:30pm local time, 1:30pm GMT
Most players will agree that there's nothing like match-practice against strong opposition in suitable conditions to get ready for a big tournament. Which means that England, the No.1 side on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings, and Pakistan, No.1 on the corresponding T20I rankings, who are set to play a one-off T20I and a five-match ODI series in England and Wales before the World Cup, which starts on 30 May, will be two of the best prepared sides for the premier tournament.
A lot of the focus will be on the ODI series between the sides as the hosts, especially, try to answer some late questions: Will Jofra Archer find a place in the final 15? Can the other pacers lift their game? Who will stand up to be counted for the spot left vacant by Alex Hales? But before that, the T20I should make for a tasty appetizer.
England still aren't their full-strength squad. They will go in with the same set of players who scrapped to a four-wicket win against Ireland on Friday after being reduced to 101/6 at one stage. Archer, who by his own admission was nervous to make his debut against Ireland, is likely to get another go, while his fellow pacer Chris Jordan, who didn't feature in the XI in the last game, could get a look in.
Duckett, a late call-up to the squad, is also waiting for his T20I debut, while James Vince, who made 18 against Ireland, will be hoping for better numbers to bolster his case ahead of the ODIs. Phil Salt, the uncapped batsman from Sussex, was called up on Saturday to replace Dawid Malan, who was ruled out with a muscle injury to his left groin.
Pakistan go into the game with their batsmen in fine form, with all of Imad Wasim, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam making hundreds in their tour wins. However, they will be without Shoaib Malik, who has been granted leave, and there is an injury cloud over Mohammad Hafeez as well.
All eyes will be on Mohammad Amir, who found himself out of the preliminary World Cup squad. In his only game on tour so far, he picked up one wicket.
Players to watch
Liam Plunkett (England): Questions have been raised about Plunkett's drop in pace, and while he has been named in the World Cup squad, he is likely to face competition from Archer. He responded to the pressure well, by picking up four wickets and giving away just 35 runs.
Babar Azam (Pakistan): Azam, the No.1 batsman on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I player rankings, is fresh off his maiden T20 hundred. His 63-ball 101 against Leicestershire included 13 fours and two sixes, and was instrumental in setting up the Pakistanis' 200/6 in their final tour game.
Conditions
Skies will be mostly clear in Cardiff, but it is likely to be chilly, with highs of 13°C. Pakistan have played three games in the UK so far, so are expected to have acclimatised fairly well.
Squads
England: Eoin Morgan (c), Jofra Archer, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Chris Jordan, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, James Vince, David Willey, Ben Foakes, Phil Salt, Ben Duckett
Pakistan: Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk, c), Abid Ali, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Asif Ali
This campaign, backed by the Welsh Assembly, was rubber stamped by the ECB when they surprisingly awarded the ground the first Ashes Test in 2009. Exciting times lie ahead.

Roman British stone head has been found on Mirfield Moor? Mirfield

Roman British stone head has been found on Mirfield Moor?
Land at Slipper Lane Mirfield Moor West Yorkshire Archaeological Evaluation
With my research of Mirfield Moor Mirfield 25 i stumbled across the Archaeological Evaluation Report produced by Cotswold Archaeology and found some very interesting finds? one of which see below.
Please read this statement taken from the Archaeological Evaluation Page 4-1.6
prehistoric or Romano-British Janiform stone head has been found to the east of the site, suggesting that there may have been a shrine or other contemporary site nearby (HER 6849). The stone head, published in 'Celtic and Other Stone Heads' by S Jackson (1973), was found in a stone wall near a well or spring on Mirfield Moor in 1966, although the exact location of the find and its current whereabouts are unknown.
The Archaeologist only investigated 4% of the field which is to be developed soon leaving 96% un-investigated?
It has also been said that the Romans who built forts at both Meltham, and Kirklees, and several roads in the area. One of these roads is reputed to have run from the fort at Kirklees through Nunbrook, Lee Green and Northorpe towards Heckmondwike. If this was was the case, it is likely that Northorpe Lane formed part of the route and, indeed, old paving flags alongside the road next to the Hall may even have been of Roman origin.
Roman History for Mirfield?

Rob Roy Way [2010] Part 2: to Callander
An alternative start to the Rob Roy Way, particularly for anyone who has walked it before, is to commence the walk (providing you can get dropped off) at Drymen Road car-park, thereby eliminating the first few miles of road walking. This is the approximate 17-mile walk from there to Bridgend in Callander. [Note: If you were even better organized you could get picked up at Invertrossachs East Gate Lodge further eliminating the final boring road walk into Callander!]. So, from the car-park the route instructions dictate that two roads enter the forest here - take the one bearing right (north-west) - the reality of course is that they both head - well by my compass anyway - northwest! I recently read a work colleague's published notes on this walk and he succinctly suggested that 'the author of the guidebook should go on a how to write instructions course! Anyway, thereafter the Rob Roy Way then passes intermittent domed shafts and the Corrie Aqueduct all part of the Loch Katrine water scheme. Queen Victoria opened the scheme in 1859; it was a complete success and wiped out Glasgow's cholera problem. For this scheme the level of Loch Katrine had to be raised and this area was selected not just because it received a heavy rainfall but equally important was the fact that it contained exceptionally pure water.
The 79-mile Rob Roy Way from Drymen to Pitlochry is an invigorating walk that to fully enjoy should take an entire week to complete. It can be extended a short distance to the village of Moulin from where a path leads to the summit of Ben-y-Vrackie and weather-permitting a fantastic end to the walk. Many folk may have already seen the famous Falls of Dochart and that possibly goes for the equally famous Birks at Abefeldy, but the more secretive Falls of Acharn are a definite highlight of the walk. This video however depicts highlights from 17-miles of those initial 20-miles from Drymen to Callander.
Clashmore Cottage provides a picturesque view en route to Aberfoyle as the Way passes Doon Hill [see earlier Rob Roy Way 2010 Part 1 video] and Kirkton Church. The Way then arrives at Aberfoyle via the first bridge ever built over the infant Forth. On this hot summer day we had lunch on the picnic benches then headed to the pub unaware that logging activities on the next stretch of the Way (despite having checked) were indeed taking place. This of course changed a comparatively low level walk into an initial climb. The plus side of course is that on a clear day the views from this alternative route are over the Lake of Mentieth - a view you simply just don't get from the lower 'official' path. It was there that Queen Mary of course stayed.
Last night the Queen had four Marys,
To-night she'll have but three;
There was Mary Beaton and Mary Seaton
And Mary Carmichael and me
A.R.Hope Moncrieff explains - 'Mary Livingston was the authentic fourth of the quartette in those days, and Mary Fleming held the place of Mary Carmichael. The luckless heroine of this touching ballad was a Mary Hamilton supposed by Scott to have been one of the Queen's attendants later on'. Glad all thats clarified eh.
Once the loch (Lochan Allt a'Chip Dhuibh) has been skirted and also from the picnic bench mid-way above it, Ben Ledi dominates the view. The Way arrives at Invertrossachs East Gate Lodge where your countryside walk ends and a roadway walk ensues, passing a humped-back-bridge on the left en route to Callander. In good weather the extent of the wide camping almost to village style proportion along the lochside has to be seen to be believed as the walk heads towards the Bridgend Hotel and end of this part of the Way. The Loch Vennacher views are over to Ben Ledi and it was Scott who wrote thus:
'T were long to tell what steeds gave o'er,
As swept the hunt through Cambusmore;
What reins were tightened in despair,
When rose Benledi's ridge in air;
Who flagged upon Bochastle's heath,
Who shunned to stem the flooded Teith,--
For twice that day, from shore to shore,
The gallant stag swam stoutly o'er.
Few were the stragglers, following far,
That reached the lake of Vennachar;
And when the Brigg of Turk was won,
The headmost horseman rode alone.
The Bridgend House Hotel is situated by the Red Bridge over the River Teith in one of the oldest parts of Callander and is actually on the Rob Roy Way making it an ideal port of call and fitting end to a day in the hills. [On the 79-mile ROB ROY WAY - all photographs 2010 - roddymck. Note: Adverts overlaid on this video appear without my permission].

[Produced by Joel Little]
[Verse 1]
I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address
In a torn up town, no postcode envy
[Pre-Chorus]
But every song's like
Gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care; we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody's like
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tiger's on a gold leash
We don't care; we aren't caught up in your love affair
[Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)
You can call me queen bee
And baby, I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
[Verse 2]
My friends and I, we've cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party
And everyone who knows us knows
That we're fine with this
We didn't come from money
[Pre-Chorus]
But every song's like
Gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care; we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody's like
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tiger's on a gold leash
We don't care; we aren't caught up in your love affair
[Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)
You can call me queen bee
And baby, I'll rule (I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule)
Let me live that fantasy
[Bridge]
(Oh, oh-oh)
We're bigger than we ever dreamed
And I'm in love with being queen
(Oh, oh-oh)
Life is great without a care
We aren't caught up in your love affair
[Chorus]
And we'll never be royals (Royals)
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (Ruler)

Bran I: Chapter reading | Finding the direwolf pups | EN subs
A Game of Thrones | ch.01: Bran | Narrated by Roy Dotrice (extract reading) | Finding the direwolf pups | cc | Written by George R.R. Martin | Background audio (Ramin Djawadi): The North Remembers (extended): | Winter has come: |
Since the original video was blocked in 241??? countries, (allowed only in American Samoa, Guam, Canada, United States, Philippines, Northern Mariana Islands, United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico for some reason) I sadly edited out the following part:
It seemed colder on the long ride back to Winterfell, though the wind had died by then and the sun was higher in the sky. Bran rode with his brothers, well ahead of the main party, his pony struggling hard to keep up with their horses.
“The deserter died bravely,” Robb said. He was big and broad and growing every day, with his mother’s coloring, the fair skin, red-brown hair, and blue eyes of the Tullys of Riverrun. “He had courage, at the least.”
“No,” Jon Snow said quietly. “It was not courage. This one was dead of fear. You could see it in his eyes, Stark.” Jon’s eyes were a grey so dark they seemed almost black, but there was little they did not see. He was of an age with Robb, but they did not look alike. Jon was slender where Robb was muscular, dark where Robb was fair, graceful and quick where his half brother was strong and fast.
Robb was not impressed. “The Others take his eyes,” he swore. “He died well. Race you to the bridge?”
“Done,” Jon said, kicking his horse forward. Robb cursed and followed, and they galloped off down the trail, Robb laughing and hooting, Jon silent and intent. The hooves of their horses kicked up showers of snow as they went.
Bran did not try to follow. His pony could not keep up. He had seen the ragged man’s eyes, and he was thinking of them now. After a while, the sound of Robb’s laughter receded, and the woods grew silent again.
So deep in thought was he that he never heard the rest of the party until his father moved up to ride beside him. “Are you well, Bran?” he asked, not unkindly.
“Yes, Father,” Bran told him. He looked up. Wrapped in his furs and leathers, mounted on his great warhorse, his lord father loomed over him like a giant. “Robb says the man died bravely, but Jon says he was afraid.”
“What do you think?” his father asked.
Bran thought about it. “Can a man still be brave if he’s afraid?”
“That is the only time a man can be brave,” his father told him. “Do you understand why I did it?”
“He was a wildling,” Bran said. “They carry off women and sell them to the Others.”
His lord father smiled. “Old Nan has been telling you stories again. In truth, the man was an oathbreaker, a deserter from the Night’s Watch. No man is more dangerous. The deserter knows his life is forfeit if he is taken, so he will not flinch from any crime, no matter how vile. But you mistake me. The question was not why the man had to die, but why I must do it.”
Bran had no answer for that. “King Robert has a headsman,” he said, uncertainly.
“He does,” his father admitted. “As did the Targaryen kings before him. Yet our way is the older way. The blood of the First Men still flows in the veins of the Starks, and we hold to the belief that the man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man’s life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die.
“One day, Bran, you will be Robb’s bannerman, holding a keep of your own for your brother and your king, and justice will fall to you. When that day comes, you must take no pleasure in the task, but neither must you look away. A ruler who hides behind paid executioners soon forgets what death is.”
That was when Jon reappeared on the crest of the hill before them. He waved and shouted down at them. “Father, Bran, come quickly, see what Robb has found!” Then he was gone again.
