Cruising Maui's Ho'okipa Beach Park
Aloha - My family and I went out for a drive along the coast of Maui. The stretch of road was called the Hana Highway and the views were breathtaking. We came across this really cool beach park called Ho'okipa. Any way, we opened the sun roof and mounted our camera on a tripod above the top of the car. Next, we turned on the CD player with surf music and hit the record button on the camera. This is what the Hana Highway looks like along the coast of Maui. Enjoy!

Maui - City Video Guide
Maui combines Polynesian heritage with a modern American lifestyle. The Valley Isle is the second-largest island in Hawaii, but it only takes a few hours to drive from the east to the west coast. However, the best way to enjoy Maui's breathtaking natural beauty is by undertaking a leisurely road trip around the island.
Wailuki is the island's capital. From here, the winding Road to Hana offers dramatic, lush scenery, the Garden of Eden Arboretum, and the surfing and fishing opportunities at Ho'Okipa Beach Park on the east coast.
The highest point of the island is found in Haleakala National Park, where cinder cones stick out from the moon-like landscape: A hiker's paradise.
Maui's west coast beaches, such as Big Beach, in Makena Beach State Park, and Kihei are great for surfing and sunbathing. Offshore, Molokini Island is a snorkeling destination. Cruise boats pause for turtle, dolphin and whale sightings along the way. Back on Maui, Turtle Town (Maluaka Beach) offers a chance to snorkel with turtles.
In the northwest, historic Lahaina has galleries, markets and museums. The upscale resort at Kaanpali Beach is a good place to enjoy the luxuries of this island paradise before driving back to Wailuki.
HIKI NŌ: #822 - Top Story - Wai‘anae High School, Commercial dolphin tours | Program
TOP STORY:
Students from Wai‘anae High School in West O‘ahu tackle the controversy surrounding commercial dolphin tours. On August 23, 2016, NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) published a regulation prohibiting tour boats from being within 50 yards of a spinner dolphin, including swimming with them. This regulation has caused a major downturn in business for ocean tour companies such as Sea Hawaii, which claims it has seen a 90% decrease in revenues since the ruling was put into effect.

A Salty Passion: Hi! We are Ryan (RumShopRyan) and Crystal (Castaway Crystal), we document, photograph, and film the best the Caribbean has to offer. Whether it’s stunning beaches, relaxing hotels, friendly restaurants, or soggy beach bars…we want to share it and inspire others to explore the islands.
MEET US!
Who Is RumShopRyan:
Howdy! I’m Ryan and I hail from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001. I didn’t know a single person and didn’t have a job. Risky I know, but the ocean was calling and I had to answer.
I’m a huge fan of Kansas City sports, so you’ll probably see a lot of Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals attire in my photos. Kansas City is a great town and I’m glad I’m from there, but the coastal life was calling. It’s kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.
I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle, and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music, or Caribbean culture, you’ll be able to find it on this site.
When in the Caribbean you’ll find a camera around my neck and note pad in my pocket. This is how I document the experiences in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.
Who is Castaway Crystal:
I was raised in Southwest Florida so it’s no surprise that I have a love for beaches, water and nature. As a child, most weekends were spent fishing in the warm gulf waters on the family boat. As an adult, most weekends are spent soaking up the sun on Ft. Myers Beach. Even though I have always loved the coastal life, I don’t think I fully appreciated it until I moved to Nashville, TN. I’m all about experiencing new things, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist I thought it would be amazing to massage some of Nashville’s biggest stars (a girl can dream right?). But I missed the sun and sand too much—and let’s not forget the rum runners! After a year I couldn’t take it anymore, this sun bunny moved back to her coast of somewhere beautiful.
I’ve always been passionate about photography and writing, but my passions never really had a purpose until I met Ryan. I couldn’t be happier being Ryan’s first mate and sharing my photos and stories with you. May they inspire you to go after your tropical dreams and wishes. Make a plan…Set a date…Just go!

Mosaik Boardshop was doing really well in 2011. It had 3 locations in Washington state: Moses Lake, Richland, and Ellensburg. But as the years went on, things changed. With the industry changing a lot from 2012 to 2017, along with the internet and Big Box stores, sadly the shops in these smaller cities had to come to an end. Yet, the Mosaik spirit and brand is still alive and strong. Check them out below:

PBS Hawaii - INSIGHTS: How Can Inter-island Travel Become More Affordable?
Sports teams, businesses and travelers have been feeling the sting of rising interisland airfare costs, fewer seats and less cargo space in recent years. Now that go! Airlines has stopped servicing Hawaii, is another carrier prepared to step in and offer competitive ticket prices? Is there any chance we could see a return of inter-island ferry service, after the Superferry's demise? How can we ensure that we're able to travel and transport goods between the islands for business, education and pleasure? On the next INSIGHTS, host Mahealani Richardson moderates a discussion on the question, How can inter-island travel become more affordable?
