The West Quoddy Head Light and Lubec, Maine
My vacation trip went all the way up to Lubec to get a few photos of the West Quoddy Lighthouse. Weather didn't cooperate for night sky photos as I had hoped, but I at least got the opportunity to see it and get a few fair shots of it the evening that I arrived.

West Quoddy Head Light - Foghorn
I love the sound of this foghorn. I especially love hearing it as I'm dropping off to sleep. It's so peaceful -- *except* in this video with all the wind noise! This was taken just after a storm. You can see all the white caps on the water. The tide is pretty high and is breaking over the top of Sail Rock beyond the wire fence.
This lighthouse is at the easternmost point of the U.S. in Lubec, Maine. The foghorn gives 2 blasts at 30-second intervals and the light flashes twice every 15 seconds, when operating. Both are now automated. The foghorn is triggered by the amount of humidity in the air. The 3rd order Fresnel lens in the light is 4'8 tall and is one of only eight Fresnel lenses still in use on the Maine Coast. It can be seen for 18 miles. You can read more about the lighthouse and foghorn history at
The Canadian island of Grand Manan lies on the horizon about 9 miles away, shrouded in fog this day. Sometimes you can hear a low-toned groaner fog signal between here and Grand Manan.
There's an interesting history of the lighthouse and the fog signals that have been used there (starting with a cannon!) at this website:

West Quoddy Head Light
We are at West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec, where we see the lighthouse, as well as an inbound bulk carrier for Eastport; Grieg Star's bulk carrier Star Dalmatia. We will see her in later videos. West Quoddy Head Light is the easternmost point in the United States, and there is a historic marker there that says it. Enjoy the view from the shore. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on April 1st, 2017.
In My Footsteps: West Quoddy Head Lighthouse - Lubec, Me.
Shots of West Quoddy Head Light and the Canadian border with some seals in Lubec, Maine. Lubec is the eastern most point in the United States. With no passport I was not daring to cross the bridge. Also, the lighthouse I saw on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, across the water, was not East Quoddy Head like I said. It is actually Mulholland Point Light.
