WNC nature Center | NC Weekend | UNC TV
Asheville's WNC Nature Center is more of a learning center than your standard zoo. Visitors can see the animals and plants indigenous to various sections of North Carolina, including noisy coyotes, various amphibians, and even the adorable river otters at Brandon's Otter Falls. The WNC nature Center not only features animals, but even an underground exhibit that highlights the geological functions and elements of North Carolina. The highlight, however, might be the highly endangered red wolves, which the WNC Nature Center protects and saves.

Perrin on the Western NC Nature Center in Asheville
The Western NC Nature Center has many animals to see, including some to pet, as well as a gold mining exhibit. Great, short experience for kids and we didn’t pay for admission because they had reciprocal privileges with our home city museum membership!
Family Travel Accessibility - we were able to use Perrin’s walker for the lower part of the nature center, but we reverted to the stroller for the rest. It is all paved, but has some hills.

Best of 2014- North Carolina Nature & Wildlife
Its the start of a new year, and before plunging back into the woods with my camera, I decided to put together a video of some of the best NC nature I captured this last year. 2014 was an exciting, beautiful and action packed year for me. I hiked hundreds of miles of trails, kayaked a bunch of new rivers, and witnessed many phenomenons of nature that have expanded my love for wildlife. I am also very happy knowing that an amount of my nature photography is now being used for conservation efforts in NC. I want to give big thanks to the Piedmont Land Conservancy for showing me their beautiful land they are helping conserve, some of which is shown in this video.
Everything shown in this video was captured during 2014 in North Carolina.

Exploring Western NC (4k)
The Appalachian mountains are some of the oldest mountains in North America. This video taken during the winter time shows the mountains in their most exposed state mostly uncovered by the lack of foliage from the cold season. Looking forward to doing another round of footage to compare the stark difference of the mountains once spring time brings the forest back to life.
What do you like most about hiking in the winter? Comment below
Thanks for watching!

Western North Carolina Nature center, fancy McDonalds & campfire chats with new friends.
We spent a couple days in beautiful Waynesville North Carolina. On Wednesday we ventured out to Asheville and went to the Western North Carolina Nature Center. Its a part of the ASTC reciprocal program so the best part was the price, free! It was a small zoo, but the kids enjoyed it.
Harmony had heard about a McDonalds in the area that was fancy so we had to check it out. In the time I have known her, this is only the second time we have went to a McDonalds. It was different, the building was not typical, and there was a player grand piano in the lobby. But it really wasnt that fancy.
That evening, our nomadic friends Ron and Tabitha from the YouTube Channel Tiny Digital Nomads came over for dinner, and we chatted around the camp fire. It was a great night visiting, be sure to check out their channel.

Hiking on a Mountain Street Trail Asheville North Carolina(1)
Colorful leaves in the fall on a mountain Sea TrailThe Mountains-to-Sea Trail is a simple footpath stretching almost 1,200 miles across North Carolina from Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains to Jockey’s Ridge on the Outer Banks.
More than just a walk in the woods, the trail traces the diversity that is North Carolina. Experience ancient mountains and small Piedmont farms, coastal swamps and colonial towns, changing textile villages and barrier islands. Almost 700 miles of footpath are now completed. With temporary routes on backroads and bicycle paths, hikers can now follow the trail on an adventure across North Carolina.
Like the best gifts passed from one generation to the next, the trail is being made by hand. Each year, volunteers devote thousands of hours to planning and blazing the trail across the state step-by-step, milestone-by-milestone. You can help in creating this state treasure. Learn how you can become part of this trail blazing effort as a member of Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail and as a volunteer.
WNC Nature Center
A number of school systems are out this week for spring break. That means many of the students and their families will visit the Western North Carolina nature center for a lesson on the plants and animals native to the southern Appalachian region. Junior is a screech owl, which is the smallest of all of the owls.He now calls the Nature Center home after he had a collision with a car.He is a great ambassador for the raptures. Here children and their parents can learn about many of the nocturnal animals. The program also encourages people to step outside and enjoy the world around them.Keith Mastin, Educator Curator, that's what we're so proud of being up here in the mountains is out wildlife our natural heritage and if we can get out there as families and experience a lot of what our ancestors did we can pass that information along and keep passing it on to our other generations.Educators at the Nature Center say with more than four Western North Carolina counties enjoying spring break this week, they're expecting big crowds.
