An EMD TR-6 switcher locomotive leads the daily caboose train along the one mile loop at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, California.
This engine, once used by the Sierra Pacific lumber mill in Quincy, California is still sporting it's original P-3 horn and was donated to the museum once it was no longer needed in regular service.

Western Pacific Museum in Portola, California. Two Trips in 1993
I visited the Western Pacific Museum in Portola, California twice in 1993, once in the snowy Spring and again in the Fall. The first trip, got to explore around the grounds and saw their FP7 and GP20 being restored. Went inside the cab of a DDA40X, number 6946. Second trip, lots of old diesels were running. These trips inspired me to do more Western Pacific modeling.

HI-DEF Western Pacific Museum - Run a Loco
This video is 1080p and really big stereo sound. If you have a computer with big speakers, turn it up and feel the ground shake!
Traveled from Yakima Washington to Portola California to visit the Western Pacific Railroad Museum to Run A Locomotive. In our case, my son and I ran three locomotives!
-Southern Pacific EMD GP9
-Quincy EMD TR6A Switcher
-Western Pacific EMD F7A
The Museum is becoming the last of its kind and needs support. Please visit or donate. If you really love trains, this is the place to go. You don't Ride a locomotive, you Run it!
They also have a huge yard filled with vintage rolling stock and locomotives. You don't look behind fences, to get to explore like a kid in a candy store!
The volunteers that run this Museum are great and went way out of their way to make our visit unforgettable.
Go Western Pacific to San Francisco (1949) WP RR
A trip on the California Zephyr between Salt Lake City and San Francisco, the Feather River Route. The narrator describes the scenery as he writes a letter to his fiancee. Includes scenes of Portola, Sacramento, Oakland, San Francisco, East Bay and Marin County. Also many great scenes featuring the train as it travels through the American country landscape.
