The Western Railway Museum is in Suisun City at Rio Vista Junction, on the old Sacramento Northern.
Part of what makes this museum so special is that they have one of the largest, if not THE largest collection of historic traction equipment in the entire state of California.
Our friend, Mike Ninneman, invited us to an event in 2016 called Railfan Day so we took him up on the offer and created this podcast segment while we were at it.

Members Day has been an annual event at The Western Railway Museum for years. We were invited to come document the event in 2018 - and what an event it was!
Despite the name, this event is not for members only. It's a day to show off the great preservation work being done at the Western Railway Museum so that people will want to become members!
This event featured a fair amount of equipment that doesn't get used too often, and lots of opportunities for photographing and making videos of that equipment.

First up shots near the California State Railroad Museum, the I Street Bridge the has cars as well as trains, also the Sacramento River, the changing leaves on the many trees in Sac with a Amtrak train making its way across the bridge. Also shots around the Old Town train yard, Tower Bridge, the State Capital, shots from across the Tower Bridge looking at Old Town etc. The Polar Express train in Old Town, along the Sac River a guy who couldn't get his motor started, and finally shots of the setting sun against some of the buildings. Enjoy!! Filmed 12/1/11
Railfanning Chico - 5/19/18
After a nice overnight stay in Red Bluff and a rather pleasant railfanning outing at Dunsmuir and Redding the day before, I made my way out to my final stop at Chico as part of my railfanning trip to the northern most parts of California. The Chico Amtrak Station only sees the two daily Amtrak Coast Starlight trains, although Amtrak Thruway bus connections are active throughout the day here. The station is neat such that it still retains the original Southern Pacific Depot and Freight House in addition to a Great Northern Pullman Coach, now converted to a coffee shop and gallery, while still retaining most of the original railcar equipment. Again, not too many trains came through here on the Union Pacific Valley Subdivision as expected, but nonetheless the city of Chico is a pleasant place to enjoy a nice Saturday morning of coffee, breakfast, and trackside railfanning !
(Please note that due to the scheduling of the Amtrak Coast Starlight that serves these stations, I was not able to see any due to the scheduled times of the station stops either late at night or in the early morning.)
Train 1 : Union Pacific QHKRVV-18 with C44ACCTE #5976, SD70M #4978, C45AH #8255(DPU), & SD70M #4286(DPU). Not too long after I arrived, QHKRVV-18 comes through town on a clear indication.
Train 2 : Union Pacific MRVPW-19 with C45AH #2547, SD70ACe #8526, & C45ACCTE #7655. Nice crew on MRVPW-19 !
Train 3 : Union Pacific LRV64-19 (Redding Turn) with SD59MX #9921, SD70M #5164, & #4373. Same cool crew as before, now on their northbound run back to Redding after overnighting in Roseville.
Thanks for Watching !

Middle Harbor Park - Oakland
Flying around Middle Harbor Park in Oakland.
The park is primarily on land that was the former site of the Oakland Naval Supply Depot (1940−1998). The Naval Supply Depot closed in 1998 and the property was transferred to the Port of Oakland.
The section adjacent to the Port of Oakland, which includes Port View Park, was originally part of the Oakland Long Wharf or Oakland Pier−Mole, which was the massive western terminus of the Southern Pacific Railroad into San Francisco Bay. The interlocking tower from the railroad's pier has been moved and partially restored as a small commemorative museum.
The land was redeveloped for the park from 2002 to 2004. Redevelopment of the land included restoration of beaches and creation of a lagoon. [2]
The mast of the USS Oakland is displayed at the entrance of the park.
