KAUAI - Hanalei Bay & Ke'e Beach
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon tour chasing double rainbows through Kauai's North Shore. We start off in Hanalei Valley, then travel to the gorgeous bay that once stood in for Bali Hai in South Pacific.
Next, it's off to the wet and dry caves of Ha'ena State Park before landing at the end of the road near Ke'e Beach and Kalalau's treacherous hiking trail.
This island paradise is calling you... so let it wash over you.
Kēʻē Beach; Waikapala'e Wet Cave; Tunnels Beach aka Makua Beach at Hāʻena Point 32
Hā’ena State Park is located at the North-Western extent of Kuhio Highway on Kaua'i’s North Shore. The park offers viewing of restored lo’i kalo (taro fields) and ancient sea caves (a.k.a. Wet Caves) formed during a higher stand of the sea, probably 4,000 years ago, as well as, the spectacular Nā Pali Coast State Wilderness Park. The park also offers beach-related activities including shore fishing and swimming at Kēʻē Beach. Hā’ena is also home to the trailhead of the world famous Kalalau Trail [11 miles], as well as, Hanakāpīʻai Falls Trail [2 miles], and is now subject to daily visitor limits and requires advanced reservations to enter the park. State of Hawaiʻi residents are not subject to the new park fees or reservation system.
Kēʻē Beach is located at the western edge of the park. This beach is located west from Tunnels Beach (aka Makua Beach at Hāʻena Point), which refers to the large waves that are thought to be ideal for surfing. Kēʻē Beach has a unique reef lagoon, which allows the water to be calm and attractive for snorkeling and swimming.
The three caves, Manini-holo Dry Cave, and Waikapala'e & Waikanaloa Wet Caves in this area were formed when sea levels were much higher and sand and surf carved them out.
Waikapala'e is one of two wet caves here and is accessible via a short, uphill trail that leads from a parking lot near the first wet cave, Waikanaloa. If you are in the mood for an icy dip, this cave offers an unusual experience. At the back of the main cave there is an opening to a smaller cave called The Blue Room. You can only get there by swimming. When you look back to where the sun is shining in the cave the whole room turns blue.
Both wet caves are fed from underground springs which dump into the ocean. The level of water in the caves is affected by the tide. The blue effect is most striking when the water level is higher.
One word of caution, as with any freshwater on the island there is a possible threat of leptospirosis, a deadly bacteria - don't go swimming if you have any open wounds and do not drink the water.
From Hā'ena, take Highway 560 West. Both wet caves are located on the left just before Mile Marker #10, past the Hā'ena Beach Park. A short trail uphill leads to this cave.
Из парка открывается вид на восстановленные lo’i kalo (поля таро) и древние морские пещеры (a.k.a.

Amazing hike from the top to the bottom. The hike is easy but there are limited signs along the way so requires a little exploring.

Kauai Tunnel of Trees - Lihue to Koloa
The Kauai Tunnel of Trees (Kauai Island, Hawaii) is just one of many surprises awaiting visitors to Hawaii's Garden Island. Driving from Lihue, where the Kauai airport is located, to Koloa / Po'ipu, the tree tunnel welcomes travelers with its continuously changing appearance (depending on the time of day). Planted over 150 years ago by Scottish immigrant Duncan McBryde, these Eucalyptus Trees once completely enveloped the highway. Today, after surviving two major hurricanes, the Tree Tunnel still stands although somewhat thinned out compared to its original appearance.
