California Gold Country Top 5 Video (HD)
The List:
1) Head to Malakoff Diggins State Historical Park to tour the gold rush-era town of North Bloomfield, where you'll get an intimate look at what life was like in the gold field's of the mid 1800's.
2) Pan for gold in Humbug Creek with equipment they'll let you borrow for free at the North Bloomfield Museum!
3) Take a 5 minute drive from town to the Diggins themselves and discover the quiet solitude of one of the most beautiful examples of nature's resilience you'll ever see...
4) Swim in the Yuba River!
5) Enjoy the outstanding food and atmosphere of Nevada City, CA!
The Day:
Following a long travel day to the Gold Country from Los Angeles, we woke up ready to explore the region. First: we headed to Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park, where we took a Ranger-guided tour of the Gold Rush-era town of North Bloomfield. The town is almost perfectly preserved, down to the original windows on the buildings.
Following the tour, we went panning for gold with the equipment they will loan you at the North Bloomfield Museum, and though all we found was Fool's Gold, it was a fantastic way to cool off in the waters of Humbug Creek!
Refreshed, we headed off for a hike in the Diggins themselves, to observe up close the beauty that Nature has created out of man's destructive practices during the era of hydraulic strip mining.
We ended the day at a local swim hole in the Yuba river and Thai food at Sopa in Nevada City....Perfect!
