Backpacking the Santa Cruz mountains. My GPS put this trail at around 35 miles plus. We had a few detours because of closed trails, but this still ended up being many more miles than what I had read online. If you are looking for seclusion this is not the trail for you. You do spend a good portion of the first two days hiking next to country roads and traffic noise. When you get down into Big Basin you finally get away from that. But I would not call this backcountry or secluded. We did this in three days and two nights.

After a very excellent breakfast under the redwood trees at Casa Nostra in Ben Lomond last Sunday, Melinda and I drove down Highway 9 to the Pacific Coast, where we watched the surf roll in to the rocky shore, just north of Santa Cruz, California.
Trail Review Santa Cruz Trail to Little Pine Mountain Santa Barbara, CA
In this episode I'm reviewing a popular trail in Santa Barbara, CA. Santa Cruz trail is a strenuous 12.5 mile day hike in the back country of Santa Barbara. You will need at least 2 liters of water for this hike. You are also going to need an adventure pass. You can purchase one of these on the way. It is not a hike for beginners. I would rate this hike a 3 on the difficulty level out of 5.
