Leopard Shot Dead After it Injures 2 Forest Officials in Dehradun
A leopard was shot dead after it strayed into a residential area and attacked two forest department employees leaving them injured in Pauri district.
The big cat entered Babu Rawat’s cowshed in Shivalik Nagar and when his family members and workers chased the leopard with lathis, it ran into the fields in Amar Colony area.
A forest department team from Ramnagar armed with tranquiliser guns reached the spot by the afternoon and tried hard to capture the leopard but to no avail. About 20 minutes after shooting tranquilising darts at the big cat, which hid behind bushes, the team threw a net to trap it but it became aggressive and attacked a forest employee Narendra Rawat and Sub-inspector of Kotdwar range Dhirendra Singh, leaving both of them injured.
A huge crowd of curious onlookers which had gathered at the spot appeared to have further angered the leopard which ran back towards Shivalik Nagar and entered the courtyard of Jagatram Naugain whose wife was sweeping the floors at the time. Before it could attack her, professional shooter Joy Hukil, who had chased the leopard along with the forest official, shot it dead.

Fantastic wild Coral blossom display in Rajaji National Park, Dehradun
Erythrina or wild Coral trees in Rajaji National Park, around Mohan, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
Erythrina is a genus of flowering plants in the pea family, Fabaceae. It contains about 130 species, which are distributed in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. They are trees, growing up to 30 m (98 ft) in height. The generic name is derived from the Greek word ερυθρóς (erythros), meaning red, referring to the flower color of certain species.
Particularly in horticulture, the name coral tree is used as a collective term for these plants. Flame trees is another vernacular name, but may refer to a number of unrelated plants as well. Many species of Erythrina have bright red flowers, and this may be the origin of the common name. However, the growth of the branches can resemble the shape of sea coral rather than the color of Corallium rubrum specifically, and this is an alternative source for the name. Other popular names, usually local and particular to distinct species, liken the flowers' red hues to those of a male chicken's wattles, and/or the flower shape to its leg spurs. Commonly seen Spanish names for any local species are bucaré, frejolillo or porotillo, and in Afrikaans some are called kaffirboom. Mullumurikku is a widespread name in Kerala.
Rajaji National Park is an Indian national park that encompasses the Shivaliks, near the foothills of the Himalayas. It is spread over 820 km²., and three districts of Uttarakhand: Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal. In 1983, three wildlife sanctuaries in the area namely, Chilla, Motichur and Rajaji sanctuaries were merged into one.
Rajaji National Park has been named after C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji), a prominent leader of the Freedom Struggle, the second and last Governor-General of independent India and one of the first recipients of India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna (in 1954).
Rajaji National Park is predominantly formed from dense green jungles, and this environment forms a habitat for a number of animals. The Park is at the northwestern limit of distribution for both elephants and tigers in India, and has the largest population of elephants in Uttarakhand.
Over 315 species of birds are found in the Park, whereas the wider region has over 500 species of birds, including both residents and migrants. The most prominent avian species include pea fowl, woodpeckers, pheasants, kingfishers and barbets, supplemented by a number of migratory species during the winter months. The Park is also home to the Great Pied Hornbill, Himalayan Pied Kingfisher and the fire tailed sunbird. This area is the first staging ground after the migratory birds cross over the Himalayas into the Indian subcontinent.
