Overview of the River Road Camp
-----------------------------------------
Troy W.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ River Road Camp + The River
This is a very small family operated campground. It offers basic RV and tent camping facilities and services. There are full hookup sites for RVs. There are tent camping sites with water and electrical hookups.
The main feature of this campground is that a number of the sites are right along the banks of the Guadalupe River. There is a little sidewalk and stairs that lead down to the water which makes it easy for families and kids of all ages to access the river.
During the winter, it is easy to reserves sites at this campground. During the summer, it is wise to reserve a site in advance. Any of the RV sites 1 to 30 are right along the river. Any of the tent sites 1 to 9 are along the river.
The campground does allow day access for $7/person.
The campground is located about 15 minutes from the town of New Braunfels where you can find grocery stores, restaurants, banks, hardware stores and other entertainment. If you're looking for Texas BBQ, check out the Rudy's or Cooper's BBQ in New Braunfels. Also located within the town is the Schlitterbahn Waterpark which is I believe the largest waterpark in the US and has an incredible amout of fun rides, slides and pools. It's a bit pricey, but it is a full day of fun for the family.

Day 2 - Willow Beach, AR
Canada Bound - Day 2 takes us from Chewalla Lake CG in Mississippi to a COE campground in Willow Beach, Arkansas and it's a leisurely 193 miles. Our main task for the day was making it through Memphis intact. It's surprising how few bridges there are over the Mississippi River so heading NW, Memphis is a sad, but only choice.
As we closed in on our campground we could see obvious signs of recent flooding and there was no shortage of water anywhere in Arkansas it seemed. The storms and torrents provided ample soil and erosion to color the water like chocolate milk. It wasn't so obvious until you looked at it from above.
Just making miles to keep to a plan at this point. Our storage tanks in the camper are real small so we like to camp in a place with full hookups (or at least a dump station) every third or forth night. So tomorrow it's off to a conventional RV Park (Passport America) in Oklahoma, strategically placed for ease in getting through Oklahoma City.

This is a stream coming out of a vanadium mine reclamation in the Hot Springs, Arkansas area. It hasn't been inspected in over five years. It is not even listed as a major discharger! It's disgusting. Runs right into a major recreation area, Lake Catherine. Don't let your kids swim downstream from here. This video was taken when it was very dry. Imagine the next big rain. This stuff is just yucki. Seems like the state of Arkansas doesn't even care. They've known about it for years and have made a tragic error in the rating of this mine reclamation. Coldwater Spring Park-Minneapolis Minnesota time lapse
I was browsing online maps of the cities and found we have a new park currently in restoration, Coldwater Springs Park is located south of Minnehaha Falls and across Hiawatha Ave from the Vet Hospital. The natural spring was a sacred place to native Indians with rival tribes being at peace when visiting the spring. For years it was State property with very little public access. It is now open to the public with limited parking.

A Review of Catherine's Landing RV Park/Hot Springs/Garvan Gardens
Back in August my wife and I took Swift Water Rescue training on the Ouachita River near Hot Springs, Arkansas. After researching RV parks near where we would be training we chose Catherine’s Landing RV Park. At $63 a night it was the most expensive, but I am pleased with our decision. It is extremely well-maintained, has very clean restrooms and showers as well as other amenities.
Because Swift Water Rescue training is quite physically taxing, we took a couple of days to rest up before heading back to Texas. On one day we went into Hot Springs to visit some of the sites. One such site was Bathhouse Row, a collection of bathhouses, associated buildings, and gardens located at Hot Springs National Park. In particular we went into the Fordyce Bathhouse Museum, a fascinating place as well as one that kept us cool in the blistering heat.
After that we walked around the Promenade and then did a hike up the Gulpha Trail. The trail itself was not very impressive, but there are buildings alongside of it that have been abandoned and look like something out of a horror movie. I could not get a good explanation of what they were, but I found them very interesting.
The next day we went to Garvan Gardens, the University of Arkansas botanical garden. We spent more time than I thought we would because it is very educational as well as beautiful. I will let the video speak for itself.
Anyway, if you go to Hot Springs, you can’t go wrong with Catherine’s Landing. Not only is it one of the nicest RV parks we have ever been to, it is also very close to Hot Springs itself and the Gardens.

KIDS HAVING FUN IN FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS! Fayetteville Farmer's Market + Wilson Park
Hello from Fayetteville! We heard that the Fayetteville, AR Farmer's Market was pretty cool, so we went to see what all there was to do there. It was a kids day, so they had a lot of kids activities to do there.
After the Farmer's Market, I looked on TripAdvisor to see what else there was to do in the area, and a good place for a picnic, and we found Wilson Park. The kids had a lot of fun climbing all over the rock castle that is built there and exploring everything in this area of the park.

Country Camping Campgrounds Isanti Mn
Country Camping.... Sites 39 & 40 .. 50 amp & water., site sizes are decent but your looking at a Cornfield in the back behind the trees..... Also shows 38 Group site in video but sounds like 38 is already booked / full for next summer. The sites along the forest side/east side (24 - 37) are smaller and about half the size of Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campgrounds. These sites are long and narrow and you almost need to reserve to sites if you plan on putting up an awning. they have 30 amp & water. The sites along the north side ,39 - 49 have 50/30 amp & water, they are wider but back up to a cornfield. Sites 1,2,3 are 30 amp & water, shaded with trees, and are small but are the only electric / water sites not taken up by Seasonal campers and monthly campers that are shaded. Only draw back is that they are close to the pool and the 2 days I visited the kids playing in the pool were quite loud at those sites.... Country Camping Campgrounds is well maintained and the Owners seemed very friendly and helpful but it's a little spendy for the small size of the sites and the lack of trees for shade. It's about $8 a day more than Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campgrounds ($12 a day more on weekends) plus if you have 2 small dogs add $10 for the reservation. If you want to camp longer than 7 days in a month this is the best Campsite I have found so far. If you want to camp 7 days or less Rice Creek Chain of Lakes campgrounds is much cheaper, all sites are very private, very shaded, at least twice the size, 30/50 amp & water hook up most sites have a charcoal grill, fire pit, 6ft picnic table, and if you have dogs you will save about $80 - $90 for a 7 day camping trip
