Beyond the Ghost Stories of the Winchester Mystery House
With its witch’s hat turrets, spiderweb windows and Gothic spires, Sarah Winchester’s 24,000-square-foot Victorian house in San Jose, California, draws tourists from around the world.
They hear tales of its construction inspired by guilt and its haunting by ghosts. But to the rifle fortune heiress, it was simply her hobby house. From 1886 to 1906, she lavished time, attention and considerable cash on the workshop where she unleashed her ambitious architectural fantasies using the most luxurious and innovative materials of her time.
See a spooktacular POV fly through of this home.

Helen Mirren gets spooked in Winchester Mystery House
(6 May 2017) HELEN MIRREN GETS SPOOKED IN WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE
Legendary British actress, Helen Mirren, admits feeling the spirit of Sarah Winchester as she shot her latest movie, Winchester.
Inspired by true events, the movie centers around the matriarch of the Winchester family which founded the famous American rifle company back in the 1800's.
Mirren plays Sarah Winchester who was said to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed by the Winchester rifles.
As a result, she ordered constant construction to her California home in order to confuse and trap the ghosts she believed were haunting her.
A skeptic San Francisco psychiatrist, played by Jason Clarke, was sent to evaluate Sarah's state of mind and discovered that her obsession with the house may not have been all in her head.
The current Winchester Mystery House, a popular tourist attraction in San Jose, California, has more than 160 rooms, 10 thousand windows, two thousand doors and forty staircases.
In anticipation of the film's release, the film makers invited media to tour the actual home and interview the actors inside one of the many unusual rooms in the home.
Winchester is just wrapping up shooting on location inside the Mansion and in Australia where a replica of the house was built and later partially destroyed in a scene depicting the infamous 1906 California earthquake.
The thriller is directed by Australian filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig known for their features Predestination and Daybreakers.
Winchester is scheduled to be released in 2018.

Winchester Mystery House, San Jose California mini tour
The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in San Jose, California, that was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearm magnate William Wirt Winchester. Located at 525 South Winchester Blvd. in San Jose, the Queen Anne Style Victorian mansion is renowned for its size, its architectural curiosities, and its lack of any master building plan. It is a designated California historical landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is privately owned and serves as a tourist attraction.
Since its construction in 1884, the property and mansion were claimed by many to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed with Winchester rifles. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its from-the-ground-up construction proceeded around the clock, by some accounts, without interruption, until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased.[3] Sarah Winchester's biographer, however, says that Winchester routinely dismissed workers for months at a time 'to take such rest as I might' and notes that this flies in the face of claims by today's Mystery House proprietors that work at the ranch was ceaseless for thirty-eight years.

San Jose is located at the southern end of the Bay Area, a region commonly referred to as Silicon Valley and is now the largest city in Northern California. The United States Census Bureau estimates the city's population to be 939,899, and the Metropolitan area to contain approximately 1.8 million residents.
This short video begins in downtown San Jose and then switches to the Winchester Mystery House.
The Winchester Mystery House is a well-known California mansion that was under construction continuously for 38 years, and is reported to be haunted. It once was the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester, but is now a tourist attraction. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its from-the-ground-up construction proceeded around-the-clock, without interruption, from 1884 until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased. The mansion is renowned for its size and utter lack of any master building plan. According to popular belief, Winchester thought the house was haunted by the ghosts of individuals killed by Winchester rifles, and that only continuous construction would appease them. It is located at 525 South Winchester Blvd.

Sarah Winchester was a New England debutante who was possessed with brilliance, a child prodigy whose portfolio of talents stretched from literature, music, to languages. In Connecticut high society, she swiftly earned the title of “Belle of New Haven”
In 1862, she married William Wirt Winchester, whose father had acquired a vast fortune through the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The couple inherited the fortune following her father-in-law’s death in 1880.

Winchester Mystery House
This week on Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how two women want you to experience the Betty and Barney Hill Alien Abduction first hand through the power of Virtual Reality. Wexler, a writer and producer whose works include a book about the last mass lynching in the United States, came across the Hills’ abduction while researching another project with her writing partner, Charlotte Stoudt, whose writing and producing credits include House of Cards and Homeland. The two were immediately drawn to the story not only for its supernatural appeal but also because of the real-world parallels with racial tensions in the United States today. Wexler says the story was the perfect fit for virtual reality, which has been repeatedly referred to as the empathy machine for its ability to put the user in another’s shoes. In its current form, Dinner Party is a two-part VR experience. In the opening scene, the audience is transported to the Hills’ home. The couple entertains guests and prepares the dining room table for dinner until Betty interrupts the festivities with a surprise. She’s decided to play the couple’s hypnosis tapes for the first time. From there, the viewer is transported to the car on the night of the abduction and experiences the alien encounter as the Hills recalled it. Then, a man from Riverside California tells a strange encounter he and a friend had back in 1988 where they watched a girl transform into a giant insect.
Then, in a study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine on Wednesday, the scientists showed for the first time how our internal body clocks regulate wound healing by skin cells, and optimize healing during the day. Burns that happened at night took an average of 60 percent longer to heal than burns that occurred during the day, the scientists found. Night-time burns – sustained between 8pm to 8am – were 95 percent healed after an average of 28 days, compared with only 17 days if the burn happened between 8am and 8pm. Body clocks – known as circadian rhythms – regulate almost every cell in the body, driving 24-hour cycles in many processes such as sleeping, hormone secretion and metabolism. The key to accelerated daytime wound healing, the scientists found, was that skin cells moved more rapidly to repair the wound and there was also more collagen – the main structural protein in skin – deposited around the wound site. Then, a family in Pennsylvania tells of strange encounter with a cloaked, predator like being in the woods.

---
In 2017, Clay and Dillon found out their friend since 5th grade had one year left to live. His cancer was back and the prognosis wasn’t looking good.
Hearing that news, we decided to quit our jobs and drop out of college to create, experience, and document our bucket list. Overnight, this story went viral and our bucket list became a reality – from feeding the homeless to meeting Danny Devito, anything was possible.
Then, after a few months of making viral videos around our bucket list, we aimed to cross off #4: break a world record. Our community beat the world recording for most bone marrow donor signups after launching a successful viral campaign, #LemonsForLeukemia. Fortunately for us, 11,000 people joined the bone marrow registry – one of them saving our friend’s life.
We’ve seen the crazy things that happen when you spend just a little bit of effort to Live For Another and One List One Life is our attempt to document all the high’s and low’s of that journey.
