The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana said an elderly couple died on Friday, when a tornado destroyed their mobile home, carrying it some 200ft (61m) from its foundations. The couple's three dogs remained unaccounted for.
Another man in the state was killed on Friday when a tree fell on his home, officials said.
The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that three people were killed in Pickens County, Alabama. Details were not immediately clear, but local media reported that they died as a result of an apparent tornado.
Please take these warnings seriously, the NWS in Birmingham, Alabama, said on Twitter when announcing the fatalities.
In Texas, one person died on Friday night when a car flipped into a creek in the city of Dallas. A 44-year-old man in the state's Nacogdoches County also died when a tree fell onto his home, officials said.
Authorities say buildings have been damaged in the extreme weather, while there were widespread reports of trees and power lines being felled.
The states of Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas suffered property damage on Friday but reported no injuries.

Sketchy RV Park in Alabama ????
Sketchy RV Park in Alabama - on our 12th day of on this year long road trip, we re-routed our plan to Birmingham, Alabama. As some of you know, we are also completing our 50 states, on top of trying to complete all 59 US national parks.
We usually just use a phone app to look for RV parks wherever we are going. We found one that was $20 and called them to confirm the price. What a deal. However, when we got there, red flags suddenly went up because it seemed that the RV park was behind a secluded community park and the roads were narrow (even for our tiny trailer) and they had a lot of potholes.
We also saw the condition of the trailers of people currently staying there. We immediately did not feel comfortable. As a result, we just turned around and found a spot where we can get some phone signal, so we can research again for other RV parks in the area. The closest one we found was 30 minutes away.
This time, it was a community trailer park. We felt a little better there as they at least have an office where people can register. They know who are there. Children actually live there, etc. It wasn't the best set up but it was starting to get late and we needed a place to stay.
Lesson learned. There was a reason why it was only $20 :-). Sometimes, you get what you pay for.
WHO ARE WE?
We, Irwin and Victorina, have decided to quit our jobs, sell everything we have and go on an epic road trip of visiting all U.S. National Parks! Follow our journey - from letting go of our material possessions, preparing for the extended camping trip, and even the mistakes, joys, doubts and adventures we make along the way! We hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of Planet Earth.
Adventure begins in Feb 2017. We estimate this road trip will take us approximately 12 to 16 months. We know we will some amazing places and meet a lot of interesting people.
If you have an idea or suggestions for us for places to visit along the way, feel free to contact us!
NEW VIDEOS every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. If we miss a day, it is probably because we had no phone signal inside the park or we couldn't find any wifi access. If this is the case, we will upload our video as soon as we get any phone signal.

012314 cut and shooot house fire
Just after noon Cut and Shoot Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Lakeview Drive near Oakleaf. When they arrived they found a two story home with fire out the roof and second floors. A second alarm was immediately pulled bringing North Montgomery County, Conroe, Caney Creek, Lake Conroe and Needham Fire Departments. Fire fighters worked to attempt to bring the wind blown blaze under control. A 4-wheel drive truck parked under the carport was saved when firefighters were able to enter it and roll it back down the drive.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office is on the scene to start the investigation into the cause.
Nobody was home at the time of the blaze, a passerby called 911 when she spotted it.
