Mykonos, Greek Island of Windmills and Whitewashed Buildings
Visiting the Island of Mykonos was a highlight of my Aegean Sea cruise. The windmills of Mykonos are a widely recognized symbol of Greece, along with the whitewashed landscape of buildings.
This view of Mykonos is a segment from I Follow Apollo, the Intrepid Berkeley Explorer's free video presenting the highlights of Greece, including Athens, Olympia, Meteora, Sparta, the Byzantine Empire, Greek Folk Dancing, the islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, & Rhodes, plus Ephesus in Turkey, and much more.

Rhodes, Greece | Cruise Port Guide
Rhodes, Greece Cruise Port Guide:
Rhodes, Greece is an island. It is a popular port on Mediterranean cruises. Most cruises stop here for the day. You have several options for shore excursions from the cruise but this port is one you can explore on your own. It's easy to get around and if you want to venture further our from Old Town, you can easily get a taxi for a fair price to wherever you want on the island. We visited here with NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) on the Jade. We loved walking through Old Town and along the breakers to see the Mandraki Windmills.
We hope you enjoyed this Rhodes cruise port guide!

Familien 2018 (Vacation 2018, Rhodes part 3)
Vacation on the Greek Islands, Rhodes 2018,
Part 3: Rhodes, Mandraki Port
On 7 days of vacation on this beautiful island, almost 1000 km were driven, on an island measuring just 100 km in length.
Almost 500 video clips were recorded on a Sony HDR-GW55 and a Sony FDR-AX53, as well as about 1000 images with a Sony DSLR-A350. In addition, there is 6 hours Video on a Mini 805 Dash Cam and approximately 4 hours continuous Video on Actioncam from various dives and adrenaline speedboat tours, there are also footage taken with mobile phone and Ipad

Tower of St.Nicholas - Rhodes
Mandraki port was the war port of Rhodes throughout the Hellenistic and medieval era. St. Nicholas’ Tower stands on the north end of the ancient mole. The fortress was built in 1464-67 by Grand Master P. R. Zacosta. It comprises a central cylindrical tower with the relief of St Nicholas high up on the east side. After the first ottoman siege in 1480 the Grand Master P. d’Aubuson encircled it with a fosse and a polygonal bastion with external escarp. The tower was the object of vicious ottoman assaults during both sieges because of its important defensive position.
In 1496 the mole of St Nicholas had at least three windmills, which still stand today.
Touring the Sites of Old Town Rhodes | Clock Tower | Colossal Statue Site | Street of the Knights
Before we sailed on this Royal Caribbean Greek cruise, the stop in Rhodes was the one we knew least about and didn't care much for. But now that it's over, Rhodes was our favorite stop and the one we wish there was more time to spend on land.
This video starts with docking in the Port of Rhodes. We walked from the ship to the walled city of Rhodes around 8am. The city was pretty quiet and most shops had not yet opened. But we walked the streets and got a chance to see most places crowd-less, which turned out to be a great idea since 3 hours later, those same locations were filled with tourists.
Our real first stop was Socratous Garden, an outdoor cafe in old town Rhodes which is worth a visit and a meal. The crepe was spot on and the coffee's were good.
Then we stopped by the Suleman Mosque and the Hafiz Ahmed Agha Library for some great pictures you can see on Instagram (@SierrasTravel)
Across the street from the Mosque is the Medieval Clock Tower Roloi, which is the tallest structure in Old Town Rhodes and one you can climb. So we bought a 5 Euro ticket and climbed to the top. They also offer a free drink from the bar as part of the 5 Euro ticket.
Then we walked the Street of the Knights toward the Palace of the Grand Masters. Our tour of the Palace of the Grand Masters will be in a separate video that will be linked here:
We walked back and out of old town through the Freedom Gate and headed north toward the Mandraki Port. A lot of shops and restaurants line the street Pl. Eleftherias, which is the steet we walked along. A great idea to spend some time if you are in Rhodes for an extended period.
As we walked, we saw the Rhodes Windmills, boats to Lindos and harbour cruises, the Fort of St. Nicholas, Hirschkuh Statue and the site where the Colossus of Rhodes once stood. So quite a lot in a short distance. All worthy of photos.
In the interest of your time, we end the video here at around 13 min and continue with Part 2 to cover the rest of Rhodes. The link to Part 2 is here -

Νίσυρος, Δωδεκάνησα, Nisyros, Dodécanèse
