Armenian FOOD & WINE TOUR on SARYAN WINE STREET + Sightseeing | Yerevan, Armenia
My first day in Armenia continued with more exploration of the capital city of Yerevan! Come along with me as I go on an amazing Armenian food and wine tour and go sightseeing in Yerevan!
Armenia Travel:
Lusine:
My adventure started at the Mother Armenia statue. She is located at a viewpoint where you can see the entire city and Mount Ararat, which is located in Turkey and is where Noah’s Ark landed.
Neaby is the Eternal Flame. It’s dedicated to the people who lost their lives in World War II. Armenia was part of the Soviet Union at the time. The views over the city are beautiful!
My guide, Gayane, showed me Victory Alley, the alley dedicated to the heroes of WWII. There are big plaques made of volcanic rock called tuff. On the plaques, the names of the heroes are inscribed in both Armenian and Russian.
There’s also lots of Soviet machinery, including a huge divisional gun, a fighter jet, a missile, and a cannon.
From there, we drove a bit and stopped at a statue of Alexander Tamanian, an architect known for his work in Yerevan. There’s also an incredible monument called Cascade, which was made to look like a stone waterfall. There’s also a unique lion sculpture made of tires and a statue of a chubby Roman warrior by Colombian artist Fernando Botero from 1985.
The Cascade has 572 steps and is made of travertine, a type of limestone. There are also beautiful fountains and sculptures there! It’s an empty, calm area that’s free of tourists. You can take escalators to the top and see more plazas, artwork, and fountains along the way. You can get epic views of Yerevan from the top!
Then, we headed to Republic Square and Northern Avenue, where there are lots of restaurants, shops, and retail. There’s a car there that’s also a souvenir shop! Lots of people sign the car, so I did as well.
All around us were beautiful buildings made of orange and rose tuff stone. They included government buildings and the National Gallery. The fountains there dance with the music. Then, we headed to Saryan Street for dinner and wine!
The first wine place that opened there is In Vino. You can buy and drink wine there. One Wine Days, they shut down the street and have a festival! They have Old World, New World, and Armenian wines.
I tried the Alluria, which is made from 2 Armenian grapes. It wasn’t sweet but was very different and had a good body. It was strong and I liked it a lot!
Next, we headed to Wine Time Restaurant. I started with a lighter, delicious, semi-sweet Voskevaz wine. Then, we started with beet root paste with chips, fig paste, grilled peppers with tomato, and dolmas. Dolmas are beef and rice wrapped in grape leaves.
The fig paste on the crispy bread was like a jam. I liked the beet root paste, too! Sour cream with the fig paste had a nice balance of sweet and salty. The dolma with sour cream had more beef than rice, which I liked a lot. Then, I tried eggplant and tomato with an Armenian sour cream called rejan. It’s a dense cream and isn’t too buttery.
I loved the flatbread with the beet root paste as well. It cracks easily, so you have to dig in to get it! Next was a better, drier Voskevaz wine and a delicious grilled tomato!
Next, we stopped at Armat Café Restaurant, an open-air restaurant/wine bar. I had another super strong, full-bodied wine as a nightcap!
I hope you enjoyed coming with me on my Armenian food and wine tour in Yerevan! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!

Traditional ARMENIAN MARKETS Tour & Food Tastings | Yerevan, Armenia
My second full day in Armenia continued in the capital city, Yerevan. Come along with me as I tour two traditional Armenian markets and go on an incredible food-tasting journey in Yerevan!
Armenia Travel:
My day started bright and early at GUM Market after breakfast. My guides for the day, Rita and Vanuhi, took me inside. It’s beautiful, clean, and well-lit. Right away, I tried lots of dried fruits, including a fig with walnut inside and a walnut with a sweet grape coating.
Then, I had a tasty dried peach and plum lavash, which is like plum fruit leather. Next, I had an Armenian date and a sticky, dried apricot that dries while it’s on the tree.
Next was an amazing fig and almonds with dried cherry wrapped around them. I loved the contrast between the almond and the sticky cherry!
Then , we came to the fresh fruit section, where I could see peaches, grapes, figs, plums, and more. They had some tiny grapes! Then, I tried an Armenian meat with a peppery and salty coating and some pomegranate wine that was more like juice. I was loving the hospitality!
Next, we saw some honeys and jams, followed by vendors butchering and selling fresh, farm-to-table poultry, beef, pork, and lamb.
Next, I tried a strong, fresh goat cheese that evaporated in my mouth, cheese with herbs, and sheep cheese. The sheep cheese with herbs was strong and almost minty! Next, the sweet vendor kept giving me food! She brought me a cheese and bread sandwich and grapes! The fluffy bread, juicy grapes, and strong salty cheese was an incredible combination.
Then, she gave me minty herbs to eat with the cheese and bread, fresh quince juice, a peach, and a strong, mozzarella-like cheese!
Then, we visited the lavash section, where there were different varieties made from different types of flour and in different tandoors. The vendor gave me a whole bag of lavash for free! It was a phenomenal bread!
Next, we headed to Vernissage flea market. To the left were swords, while to the right, there were souvenirs like jewelry and religious items. I saw some cool T-shirts, jewelry, an awesome wallet, and colorful scarves and hats. I bought a bag, beanie, and scarf for 9,000 dram, or a little under $20 USD. She took 500 off!
We continued on and saw cups, pottery, clocks, religious crafts, handmade tea sets, and more. There were also wooden crosses, and models of Armenian churches! These churches were some of the first Christian churches in the world.
I also saw a beautiful wooden Armenian board game with dice, as well as pipes, rosaries, and more. I loved the barrels they had for brandy, as well as the gorgeous wooden chessboards. Then, we saw instruments called duduk made from apricot trees!
Next were Armenian ceramics, followed by vivid and beautiful Armenian paintings depicting Armenian churches and the mountains. They cost about $125 USD. Every painter had their own style. Some were brighter than others, some were more abstract. I also found some Armenian soccer uniforms, which I got for my nephews for 6,000 dram, or about $12 USD.
Next was the silver part of the market. The earrings, necklaces, and bracelets were all handmade and set with different stones. Then, I saw a 125-year-old handmade carpet. They cost about $1,000 USD.
Next, I came across a vendor selling traditional Armenian hats. She said no one wears them in public, but they were really nice and made of wool. I bought one for 5,000 dram, or about $10 USD. I loved the patterns on it!
I hope you liked touring these traditional Armenian markets with me! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment below. Also, please subscribe to my YouTube channel and click the notification bell so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!

Hello! My Tribe,
Welcome back , I hope you enjoyed my episode 1 of my trip to Armenia.

I reached the wings of Tatev at 4 o clock after a 3 hours drive took me from Jermuk to wings of tatev. Wings of Tatev is the aerial tramway to Tatev monastery. It’s the shortest and most impressive route to Tatev Monastery and the longest reversible cableway in the world, recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. I had a typical Armenian lunch at Wings of Tatev which included Armenian tea, plate full of herbs and salads, plate filed with purple basil green basil, grilled potatoes and the traditional bread of Armenia called lavash. The whole way from wings of tatev to tatev monastery took us about 12 minutes, which I spent enjoying landscapes, valleys, and the beautiful view from the top. The cable car then dropped me at a beautiful spot, from where I was taken by a local Armenian driver in an old 4WD of soviet vintage 1959 to a spot where I could get an ariel view of the Tatev monastery. Tatev Monastery is the architectural pearl of medieval Armenia.
The name of the monastery has become a cause of many legends. According to one of those legends when the architect was about to finish his work and was putting the last stone on the dome of the church, he asked Lord to give him wings – “Ta TeV” meaning “give wings,” so that he can fly high into the sky and see the wonder he had created from the far. God listened to the prayer of the talented architect by giving him wings to see his creation.
I had a mesmerizing and peaceful experience at the Tatev monastery. The place was rich with history, culture and serenity. Having experienced the beauty of the place, we then took the cable car again and drove down back to the hotel. That night we shifted to hotel Hyatt Place Jermuk. Hyatt Place Jermuk is conveniently located in the center of Jermuk and is famous for its accessibility and its provision of a wealth of enriching individual experiences to both business and leisure travellers alike. I was living in a suite. The bright, air-conditioned rooms with warm-colored interiors and modern décor were a true delight. My room featured a separate bedroom and living area, including one king Hyatt Grand Bed and our Cozy Corner with sofa and a mountain view. I had a peaceful sleep in this comfortable place and the next day, woke up fresh and energized.
I quickly got ready, went to the café and ate a healthy and nice breakfast, and then I started for garni temple via Yerevan. This is the only pagan temple left in Armenia which has not been turned into a church. A 3-and-a-half-hour drive took me to garni temple. All the way, I went clicking pictures and taking halts at many spots. I then went into the restaurant overlooking garni temple where I had some yummy Aubergine, potatoes and grilled fish. The Temple dates to 77 AD and is a bright example of the developed culture and beliefs of the locals. Armenians had eight Pagan Gods and Goddesses at the time which were equal in numbers; 4 male and 4 female.
The Temple of Garni was dedicated to the male God of Sun, Mithra or Mihr, as locals call him. He was responsible for sun, light, and justice. The water near garni temple was refreshing; I noticed little spring water taps all over this country that had fresh water located at short distances. The water in Armenia is known for its special therapeutic quality which really quenches the thirst and energises you!
The next day it was time for spa and I went to a wine and grapes spa. In the Wine and Grapes spa, I met the owners, a couple who started this concept and they copywrited it. They grow their own organic red and white grapes. They have done an intensive research on the benefits of grapes on our skin and overall wellbeing.
Five days in Armenia were definitely not enough to soak in its beauty and enjoy it thoroughly, but it was time for me to get back to Dubai , on the way back , sitting in my comfortable seat in air Arabia flight, I realized that the history of Armenia had seeped into me, and I was a more empowered and zealous me after exploring this wonderful hidden gem of the world – Armenia.
As Seneca has aptly said,
Travel and change of place impart new vigour to the mind.
A huge thanks to air Arabia, Air Arabia holidays and tourism board of Armenia for this fabulous trip

KAKHETI | Wine Tasting + Bread & ChurchKhela Making at WINERY KHAREBA
How could we ever miss it! It was the perfect stop for us in our short visit in the Telavi area. We took a tour and really appreciated Lasha our [winery tour guide] who joined in the adventure. Not only did we get to taste the wine we got to taste some grapeseed oil and local pressed cheese, we saw how wine was made, what tools they used, and finally saw the huge collection of bottles in the tunnels. Khareba undoubtedly is tourist-oriented but in the good sense. We got to do bread making and churchkhela

Armenia The country of unforgettable memories
Armenia is a land of mysticism that will capture your imagination. It is an open air museum, where you can walk through time and experience living history. It is a land of enchantment, with untouched awe-inspiring nature, and seven climate zones, each offering a different topography. Each city is a museum in and of itself, with ancient relics, old and new architecture, churches dating back thousands of years, and heritage and culture that fuse the past with the present.
Armenia – A modern country connecting East to West with an ancient history spanning across thousands of years. It is a land rich with cultural heritage and traditions that have evolved to fit the modern age and are still celebrated today.
Armenia has an astounding array of landscapes within its borders, including seven geographic zones, from deserts and semi-deserts to alpine and subalpine meadows. Armenia can kick up your adrenaline with steep routes and off-road riding along its valleys. It can also be a place of relaxation with mountain resorts and therapeutic spas.ck for more.
Once in the capital, Armenia becomes your favourite refreshment with a splash of vibrant nightlife, live music, art, cafes and jazz clubs that jam until dawn. In the streets you will find works of the best artists in the modern world – from massive sculptures in parks to the brilliant creations of contemporary painters, ceramists and jewelers at flea markets.
Standing under arches and domes that inspired Leonardo da Vinci, church chants fill the air and echo a melody that calms the soul. The notes you hear being sung were also heard by Mesrop Mashtots, who in his inspiration created the Armenian alphabet.
Whether in gourmet restaurants or authentic rural homes, Armenian hospitality and its rich cuisine and bountiful harvest will always welcome you to the table. Lavash freshly baked in a fiery tonir will fill your belly, while the coffee brewed on hot sand will fill your heart. The country will also wrap you up in the vine of Areni Noir – a local grape variety first planted by Noah after the Biblical Flood. The spirit culture flows through Armenia from cozy wineries in Yerevan to the most ancient “wine factory” in a terroir cave of Vayots Dzor over 6100 years old. Let us not forget the cellars of the Cognac factory. Parting with its fragrant walls is more difficult than climbing Mount Ararat.
Armenia is all about interesting people and racy local humor. It is a country of unforgettable experiences with hospitable people that will always have you coming back.

Standing Stones and Swinging Bridges
Traveling through the southern countryside of Armenia, we made a pitstop in Areni, a small town famous for its Armenian wine. In 2011, archaeologists discovered the oldest known winery in a nearby cave (dating to 4100 BC). The site contained 6000 year old grape seeds that match the ones still used today by local wineries like the one we visited on our trip.
Leaving Areni with two tasty bottles of wine, we made our way to Zorats Karer (Warrior Stones), aka Karahunj, aka the Armenian Stonehenge. Some scholars date this ancient megalithic structure to 5500 BCE, rendering it approximately 2000 years older than the British Stonehenge. It's distinguishing feature, however, is its mathematical precision and alignment. Of the 222 stones, 84 contain carefully constructed holes 4-6 cm wide, pointing to different significant points in the sky. Many archaeologists agree that these standing stones once served as both an astronomical observatory and a site of pagan ceremonial worship.
On our southbound journey we take an eastern detour to the abandoned cave village of Old Khndzoresk. After walking 389 steps down the Deep Gorge which divides the old village of Khndzoresk from the new, we crossed a 160 meter long man-made and suspended swinging bridge. Constructed by the villagers, the bridge is the only way to access these old caves (other than donkeys, of course) in which approximately 15,000 villagers lived for over a thousand years. In 1950, Soviet officials forced the villagers out of their ancestral homes on account of them being uncivilized, but a closer examination of these abandoned caves shows just how intricately connected, constructed, and developed they were. Since many of the dwellings were carved out over and around each other, a complex system of ropes and ladders were required for people to reach many corners of the community.
Today, Old Khndzoresk is frequented mostly by local livestock which graze by the caves, some of which have been converted into stables or storage spaces.
