Wolf Mountain Sanctuary
Wolves once ranged over almost all of North America, north of Mexico City. Gray Wolves and Red Wolves though are decreasing drastically even though they fall under Federal protection. One Native American woman, Tonya Littlewolf, has made it her life’s mission to protect wolves and educate the public about this often misunderstood animal. Mary Parks takes you inside Wolf Mountain Sanctuary in Lucerne Valley in this episode of California Spirit.
The Gray Wolf has long been on the federal government’s list of endangered species. Many of the sanctuary wolves have been used in the film industry and are retired to the sanctuary to live out their lives with Tonya Littlewolf. The sanctuary is always open for visitors and volunteers.
Other info on why wolves are becoming scarce:
Reduction of wild habitat (which influences prey density and availability)
Government policies in the last century to extirpate wolves (hunt them to extinction)
Current wolf conservation policies that vary from state to state
Wolves seen as competition to humans (wolf predation on ranches and farms)
Lack of accurate scientific knowledge about wolves, creating fear and misunderstanding

Wolf Rubs on Chris - Wolf Mountain Sanctuary
♥♥♥ This is Holan, from the Wolf Mountain Sanctuary in Lucerne Valley, California! If you'd like to meet him, go here: If you're too far and want to help save the wolves, please donate here: ♥♥♥ THANK YOU! :D
♥ Holan the wolf (97%) can't resist Christopher and his necklace filled with essential oils, notably Eucalyptus. So he rubs, licks, nibbles, and loves all over him. :P I couldn't hold back my silly laughter. He even tries to steal the necklace through his shirt! Christopher is a good friend of mine and Tonya Littlewolf, so he took me to her wonderful sanctuary! I was overjoyed to meet Holan, Tonya, and everyone there. :) They are truly incredible people and animals, so if you live anywhere in the state of California, I highly suggest visiting! ♥

No Matchmaking for Wolf in California Without Environmental Review
A wolf of a type that no longer inhabits California wandered into the state from Oregon in late December 2012. It turns out that getting him a mate in California would require review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and an Environmental Impact Report. Excerpt from KCRW, Which Way LA? radio program, Jan. 26, 2012. The wolf -- apparently unsuccessful in hooking up in California -- reportedly went back to Oregon in early March 2012.

Dead Man's Point in Applevalley CA.
Here's a short background......
Dead Mans Point is a natural rock formation located at the junction of state highway 18 and Bear Valley road between the high desert communities of Lucerne Valley and Apple Valley about 11 miles southeast of Victorville. How did the rocks take on such fantastic shapes? What forces sculpted them?
Geologists believe the face of our modern landscape was born more than 100 million years ago. Molten liquid, heated by the continuous movement of the Earth's crust oozed upward and cooled while still below the surface. These plutonic intrusions are a granitic rock called monzogranite. It’s been more than half a century since Dead Man’s Point was shown on the big screen with a 100-foot-tall fuzzy spider climbing its rock formations in the 1955 science-fiction horror film “Tarantula.”
