Finding Wild Missouri: Shaw Nature Corridor
Travel along the famous Route 66 and you'll discover the Shaw Nature Corridor that follows Highway 44 east of St. Louis. A visit to Powder Valley Conservation Nature Area is a mile from one of the busiest interstate intersections in Missouri! Travel writer and conservationist John Robinson visits with Rio at the wild bird sanctuary. Next, we watch wolves in their natural habitat at the nearby Endangered Wolf Center. Further down the corridor, a walk through Henry Shaw Nature Center is a delight among the flowers, fauna, and walking trails. We end our journey at Route 66 State Park, as we pay homage to this important roadway that also transports us to the natural world surrounding it.

10 Hidden Places the World Doesn't Know About
Best Hidden Destination Within The United States: North Dakota
My newest 'find' is North Dakota, which I discovered last fall. Wide open spaces, very few people, and lots of things to do, too, [like] Wild West towns and old Norwegian pioneer settlements, [Theodore] Roosevelt National Park and the northern Badlands, [and] The Lewis and Clark Trail of forts and museums along the Missouri River. [Plus, there's a] surprisingly sophisticated food and bar scene in Bismarck.
Best Hidden Destination for History Lovers: Leptis Magna
One thing that didn't come out during last year's blanket press coverage of the Libya revolution was the fact that the North African nation has the absolute best Roman ruins anywhere, outside of Rome itself. The place is called Leptis Magna, [and it's] on the coast 75 miles east of Tripoli. [You'll find] stunning architecture that hardly anyone has visited in modern times.
Best Hidden Destination for Snorkeling: Tuamotu Islands
The Tuamotu Islands of French Polynesia, about an hour's flight north of Papeete, are unspoiled, uncrowded, and unpolluted. You can snorkel with tropical fish or big things (sharks and manta rays) in the coral atolls with lagoons in the middle or 'drift snorkel' through the lagoon passages on the turn of the tides.
Best Hidden Destination for Family Travel: Galapagos Islands
Not hidden per se, but it's not the most obvious family vacation and it's the one spot on the entire planet I would take my kids back [to] again and again. Children love it, especially if you tour the islands by boat. In addition to getting up close and personal with millions of animals who show no fear of humans, kids can also dive into lots of different watersports like snorkeling, sea kayaking, Zodiac [boats], etc.
Best Hidden Destination for Mountain Lovers: The Pyrenees
The Pyrenees in southern France and northern Spain [are] everything people crave about the Alps with a fraction of the people. [They have so much to offer, including] incredible high-country national parks in Gavarnie, Ordesa, and Aiguestortes; hearty regional cuisine; the running of the bulls in Pamplona—and even duty-free shopping in tiny Andorra.
Best Hidden Destination for Romance: Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's southern coast, [especially on] either side of the old city of Galle, has everything you need for a romantic getaway—including chic boutique hotels, uncrowded beaches, wildlife sanctuaries (wild elephants and leopards), ancient temples, and great food.
Best Hidden Destination for Beaches: Mauritius
It's a long haul from North America or Europe, but Mauritius is well worth the 24-hour trip for the palm-fringed beaches alone. Great hotels, marvelous mixed-bag cuisine (Indian, Chinese, African, French) that reflects the island's diverse cultural heritage, adventurous volcanic mountains, quirky history, and very nice people who enjoy having visitors come to their tiny speck of land in the middle of nowhere.
Best Hidden Destination For Culinary Travel: Tokyo
A lot of people wouldn't touch 'street food' in Asia, but in super-clean Japan you have nothing to worry about. Especially good are the early-morning eateries of Tsukiji Fish Market, where you can breakfast on fresh-off-the-boat sashimi and premium sake, and the 'Yakitori Alley' beneath the old brick railroad arches near the Ginza district.
Best Hidden Destination for Adventure Travel: Wrangell-Kluane Wilderness, Alaska and the Yukon
This is the world's largest single protected area (50 million square miles), and [it] boasts the biggest concentration of super-high mountains and glaciers in North America. In addition to copious wildlife (bear, moose, caribou, mountain goats, whales, and timber wolves), the vast park offers all sorts of adventure possibilities—backcountry hiking, mountain climbing, whitewater rafting [on] huge inland rivers, or kayaking saltwater fjords. And best of all: adrenaline-pumping bush plane flights.
Best Hidden Destination for Wildlife: Pantanal Wetlands
Everyone thinks the Amazon is the place to go in South America for wildlife, but the vegetation is too thick and the habitat destruction [is] too widespread now. With vast grasslands, animals are much easier to see (and photograph) in the Pantanal wetlands of southern Brazil. It's the best place on the planet to see jaguars in the wild.

Mt. Hamiguitan: World's Largest Pygmy Forest
I have been to almost 50 mountains and I would have to say that this trip was one of my most intimate and surreal experiences with nature. If someone ask me today what is my favorite mountain, its gonna be Hamiguitan. It may not be as high as Apo or as difficult as mimaropa/panay trilogy but what sets it apart is the sheer diversity and variety of its resident wildlife. The world's largest pygmy forest. The forest is extremely unique and I felt alive being surrounded by it.
Glad to finally ticked off Hamiguitan in my hiking bucketlist! Only mountain in PH to earn distinction as UNESCO World heritage site and also included in the list of ASEAN heritage park. Will definitely return! Thank you to Mayor Justina Yu and the rest of LGUs for continuous effort protecting Davao Oriental's hidden gem despite being the poorest municipality but still employ a team of Bantay Gubat. They are also resisting mining operations in their mineral rich town because of its dangers(Hoping that the tent I donated will be helpful to you guys)
Daghang salamat din kay sir Jun, tatay Lucio(who happens to not only be one of Atom Araullo's guide in his recent documentary in GMA but also to Noli De Castro's MGB which is 20 years ago) and the rest of guides/porters and as well to mindanao based mountaineers from PAO and PAGIBIG for making this hike possible, fun and memorable. And of course to my tita Krezen for spontaneous harkor invites! #TrailLove

Negev Dinner 2013 - The Stephen J. Harper Hula Valley Bird Sanctuary Visitor & Education Centre
Proceeds from the 2013 Negev Campaign will support the building of the Stephen J. Harper Hula Valley Bird Sanctuary Visitor and Education Centre.
Jewish National Fund's Hula Lake Nature and Bird Park is located along a major global migration route. Every year during spring and fall migration close to 500 million birds fly over Israel, passing over or spending winter, spring or summer in the Hula Valley.
Developed by KKL-JNF as part of the Hula Valley Rehabilitation Plan, the park has become a local and global attraction for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year from Israel and abroad and serves as a model for cooperation between conservationists, tourists and farmers.
Through your support, KKL-JNF is establishing a 4,000 square meter state-of-the-art visitor center at this unique site. The Centre is at the heart of the Hula Valley's vital wetland rehabilitation project. The centre will be a world-class scientific and educational facility, designed to blend with its environment according to principles of sustainable development. It will link Israel with scientific communities and travelers from around the world. The site is expected to attract one million local and international tourists annually, more than doubling the current number, within 10 years.
JNF Toronto will help transform a vision into a reality. The Stephen J. Harper Hula Valley Bird Sanctuary Visitor & Education Centre will benefit the environment and become a major source of income for the residents of the area. With your help, the planned visitor and education centre will undoubtedly become the pinnacle of KKL-JNF's major project, restoring the Hula wetlands to their former glory.
Mississippi River Flooding at Cliff Cave Park St Louis Missouri
Mississippi River Flooding at Cliff Cave Park St. Louis County Park. I am at Cliff Cave Park today. I just wanted to give an update with how the park is doing with the Mississippi River Flooding I know some of the trails are covered and flooded and wanted to show how that's impacting the park. I know some of the trails are covered. I’ve had a number of videos out here and I’ll have them linked in the description as well as on some of the cards. So checkout those playlists.
Cliff Cave Park Playlist:
Today’s focus is the Mississippi River and it has crested and in St. Louis Missouri today i saw on Stltoday.com that the river level was going to be 38.72 ft and to give perspective there the record high river level on August 1st 1993 was 49.58. Also close to cliff cave park is the Meramec River and Arnold Missouri and the Current flood stage is 35.46 and to give perspective there the record high river level was 47.26 December 31st, 2015.
I shared the Cliff Cave Overlook, the bottom two trails both the 0.5 mile look and the 4.5 mile loop. The Mississippi River overlook. Got a shot of a deer. Also a good view of a pusher boat or tow boat that will be pushing a barge. I got a good view of the Leonard L. Whittington tow boat that was connected to a barge.
