There’s never been a better time to be a beer drinker, with thousands of breweries across the country offering a virtually endless variety of beer. But it wasn’t always this way. After Prohibition ended, lawmakers didn’t legalize homebrewing—whether by design or by accident is unclear. While this didn’t dissuade underground homebrewers, it did prevent the commercialization and spread of craft beer. By the 1970s, fed up with the lack of variety in beer, consumers began to demand more freedom… and President Jimmy Carter delivered. (Yes, Jimmy Carter.) Military Couple Wins Dream Wedding in Malibu, California
Organized by Robert Michael Films, this entire wedding was gifted to this young, military couple as a way of showing our appreciation and saying thank you for your service.
Ivy (currently in school studying to be a nurse) and Samuel (currently serving in the United States Marine Corps) were selected from a large group of giveaway applications to receive a free wedding on October 26.
Multiple vendors from across the country pitched in to donate their time and talent to help this young couple have the wedding of a lifetime.
The idea started as a way to give back by donating my time to create a wedding film for one lucky couple. After partnering with Kristen from Something New For I Do and Lauren from Chancey Charm, it evolved into a complete wedding giveaway.
The Backstory:
Ivy and Sam met while working together at Starbucks. On their first date they went to Disneyland. Fast forward to later in their dating life when Sam returned from boot camp he took Ivy back to Disneyland where he proposed in front of the Magic Castle.
The Big Day:
The wedding was hosted at Malibu Solstice Vineyards with incredible views overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Forty of Ivy and Samuel's closest family and friends were invited to share in this couple’s most incredible day.
Chancey Charm San Diego based wedding planner, Lauren Weidley, help plan all the details and worked tirelessly to make sure everything was in place for the big day.
Prior to the wedding, the couple was treated with gift certificates for wedding bands complements of Brian Gavin Diamonds and facial and skincare services donated by Lani Williams.
Out of the Dust Rentals went above and beyond providing antique wood chairs, wine barrels used for tables and much more. Florals were provided thanks to Lady Buggs and calligraphy and signage were created by Papercake Creative.
The couple exchanged vows with the help of close friend and Officiant, Thomas Hollenbeck, and featured the music of guitarist and vocalist, Warren Takahashi. Photography was captured by the talented Meghan Christine and her assistant Danielle.
A craft wine and beer cart was provided by Draft in Style Beer and Wine and was the perfect complement to the Famous Taco Truck selections.
The party was in full effect with Christian from Afterburn Productions, aka DJ Razz, providing music and MC’ing the reception.

Sierra 30: A Collaboration of Pioneering Brewers
2010 will mark our 30th anniversary as a brewery, and we are celebrating with a yearlong collaboration with the trailblazing brewers who helped transform America into the worlds most exciting brewing nation. We are teaming up with the founders of the movement to brew some very special beers that will benefit select charities and beer drinkers across the country. Without the camaraderie, knowledge, and expertise these early pioneers shared with us, Sierra Nevada might never have started. We want to take this unique opportunity to give something back.
March of 2010 will see the first of four beers in a series of collaborative projects with Americas craft-brewing pioneers: Fritz Maytag of Anchor Brewing; Jack McAuliffe, founder of New Albion Brewery; and authors, homebrewers, and beer advocates Fred Eckhardt and Charlie Papazian. Together, this group is credited as the men who launched a thousand breweries; and without them, our current day craft-beer renaissance might never have happened.
The beers will be released periodically throughout the year—starting with the first release in March, and continuing until the date of our 30th Anniversary on November 15. These limited-release, 750ml cage-and-cork bottles will be available at select retailers and beer-centric bars.
These resulting beers will be much more than a tribute. $10,000 from each beer will be donated to select charities chosen by each of the beer pioneers.
A lot has changed in the generation since we first started brewing. When Sierra Nevada opened, there were less than 50 breweries operating in the United States. Today there are more than 1,500 craft breweries in operation, and American brewers lead the world in variety of styles, innovation, experimentation, and quality.

But Sam Adams's limited-edition Utopias, a so-called extreme beer, is apparently intended to be enjoyed in the same way as a cognac.
It''s high in strength as well as price - Utopias contains twenty-five percent alcohol.
A trend, say retailers, that is becoming more widespread.

The new beers on the market aren't just stronger, a new Budweiser brew called B to the e has ingredients you''d expect from a popular energy drink, including caffeine and ginseng. Others add flavours like apple.
Marketing analysts believe the beer companies are trying to regain lost ground.
According to the Distilled Spirits Council, beer's share of the alcohol market has declined from fifty-six percent to just over fifty-three percent in the last six years, and that accounts for hundreds of millions of dollars in lost sales.

Rob Greenfield's latest sustainable living project is to live in a DIY 100 ft² tiny house for two years while foraging and growing 100% of his own food in an urban area. You can follow more of Rob's adventures in sustainable living on YouTube and on his website here:
We are thrilled to be featuring Rob on our channel, and we learned so much from him just with this one video collaboration. In addition to living in his tiny home, he's figuring out how to create his own cooking fuel using a biodigester, he's growing his own toilet paper, and he even makes his own sea salt.
He built the tiny house in the backyard of someone who was looking to live more sustainably. In exchange for a place to build the home, he created a rainwater collection system, an extensive garden on the front lawn, a bio digester and composting system, and more.
Obviously, we can't all live like Rob is doing in this video (although it does look like a healthy, simple, and rewarding lifestyle), but we can get inspired to make positive changes in our own lives. Maybe start composting or eating more fresh food, creating less garbage, riding our bikes more, etc. That's what we're inspired to do after working on this video with him :)
