Navi Mumbai is a planned city off the west coast of the Indian state of Maharashtra in Konkan division. The city is divided into two parts, North Navi Mumbai and South Navi Mumbai, for the individual development of Panvel Mega City, which includes the area from Kharghar to Uran. Navi Mumbai has a population of 1,119,477 as per the 2011 provisional census.
In the late 1960's Adi Kanga, a civil engineer, and some of this friends lamented that their city, the bustling Bombay (now Mumbai), was overpopulated. As the commercial capital of India it was attracting large numbers of citizens, which the available infrastructure could not cope with. So the friends came up with the concept of building a new city, New Bombay, on the mainland, across from the seven islands of the old city.
The area was mooted in 1971 to be a new urban township of Mumbai by the Government of Maharashtra. For this purpose a new public sector undertaking was established that is the CIDCO.Navi Mumbai is situated across two districts namely Thane and Raigad.The city has been ranked 12th among 73 cities surveyed for cleanliness and hygiene by the Union Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and Quality Council of India (QCI) as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Navi Mumbai is home to various educational institutions offering courses in several streams including engineering, medical sciences, interior designing, and hotel management. Various MNCs like Siemens, McDonald's, Bureau Veritas, Bizerba and Larsen & Toubro have their offices/branches across the city making it an active business hub.Navi Mumbai also has various recreational facilities such as a golf course, central park and Pandavkada water falls in Kharghar, Parsik Hill near Mahape, Wonders park in Nerul, Juhu Chowpatty mini seashore in Juhunagar or Sagar Vihar in Vashi, Pirwad and Mankeshwar Beach in Uran and several other public places like gardens and jogging tracks. Navi Mumbai also has many quality restaurants and luxury hotels for accommodation like Four Poins by Sheraton and Fortune Exotica. There are many shopping malls such as Seawoods Grand Central in Seawoods, Little World mall in Kharghar, Orion Mall in Panvel, Inorbit and Raghuleela malls in Vashi.

Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai is one of the largest cities in the world with a population of around 17 million. It was constructed on a headland that extends for 22 kilometres into the Arabian Sea.
In 1853, Mumbai had its first railroad and the Indian rail network was soon extended. The Victoria Terminus was built and is one of the most impressive train stations in the world. The lavishly decorated brown sandstone building dates back to1888 and is the most beautiful Victorian Gothic building in India, built during the high season of British colonial rule.
The Dhobi Ghats or 'Banks of the Washers', is the name of the 'Biggest laundrette in the world'. In the open air, hundreds of dhobis do much of the city's 'laundry'. In small allotments surrounded by low walls, launderers wash from dusk to dawn.
On Malabar Hill, between the villas of numerous film stars and luxury apartments, is the fascinating Adishwarji Jain Temple, a good place in which to gain an insight into the harsh rituals of the wealthy faithful who worshipped the first Jain saints. The legendary Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, with its striking façade and red cupolas, had a spectacular origin.
When industrial mogul, Tata, was refused entry to a British hotel restaurant by a sign that stated, FOR EUROPEANS ONLY, he decided to build the city's finest hotel.
Nowhere else are India's many remarkable contrasts so obvious and nowhere else can India be experienced so intensely as in Mumbai, mega metropolis and unique Gateway to India!

November 1, 1996: In Bombay, India, 85% of the proceeds from one concert were put aside for the 'Shiv Udyog Sena' to help create jobs for 270,000 young people in the state of Maharashtra.
Viraf Sarkari said, It was a charity show. Not even a penny was charged. Michael arrived in Mumbai on October 30th at Mumbai's Sahar airport, was greeted by Sonali Bendre clad in a nine-yard sari and a Maharashtrian nathni standing with an aarti thali to welcome MJ, along with Raj Thackeray, Sharmila Thackeray and innumerable politicians who were there to receive Jackson.
Upon arriving in Bombay, Michael asks his driver to stop the motorcade transporting him from the airport to his hotel to allow him to spend 20 minutes talking with children playing in the crowded slums he must pass en route. He then spent a few minutes with them before he proceeded to the Shiv Sena chief, Bal Thackeray's residence.
On January 25, 1997: Michael waved his personal fee for his Bombay appearance and donated $ 1.1 million to a local charity helping to educate children living in slums.

School kids, parents, college boys and girls were primarily eager to experience it, the day it launched. 23,000 traveled on the second day of inauguration, revenue of 4 lakh. I reached the Ambedkar Nagar monorail station near Haffkine institute, at the back side of KEM hospital in Parel in the afternoon. The ticket to Chembur costed me 30 Rs. The security here is quite good, their attire seemed quite similar to the CRPF jawans/soldiers. They were quite helpful in guiding me and instructing other passenger about safety and directions. I boarded the train in and was pleasantly surprised with the interior of the train, it was clean and futuristic. The doors were automatic and the train was full air-conditioned which made it very easy and comfortable to travel in the sweltering heat of Mumbai, it will be of great help to a Mumbiker in the summer season. Now coming to the main part, the scenes and sights of Mumbai! Yes, this was the best part as I got to see Mumbai from point of view that was never seen before for over 25 years of my life! I saw such beautiful and diverse landscapes that for a second I could not believe that this was Mumbai, it really looks so new and different from above. I also saw a great deal of economic disparity, houses of the poor and sky scrapers of the rich. There were beautiful lawns, gardens and golf courses, luxury buildings as well as dumping grounds, industries, truck stations and slums which seemed poles apart from each other but existed in such a unique kind of harmony that it was amazing to see it from such a new perspective. After I crossed Wadala, I suddenly realised that there was so much open land in Mumbai! Acres of land which has not yet been used for housing projects or entertainment purposes. However I think that it is owned by the Reliance group, headed by Mukesh Ambani. If not all, most of it is owned by the petroleum Jio Billionaire who plans to make this one of the best ports in the World in future! As I reached Chembur I was satisfied with my first time experience and sure do hope to visit again soon. Overall I feel India is well on its way to beat China and Japan when it comes to trains and other allied modes of transport. Hope you enjoyed watching the video. Day 3: Mumbai, India - To begin the day we took a quick trip to Elephanta Island to see the Elephanta caves. We then came back to Mumbai, and had amazing Bombay duck at Gomantak restaurant, and then proceeded to have one of the greatest Mumbai street foods, called vada pav.
00:22 Elephanta Caves (boat ride 180 INR ($2.69) - One of the worthwhile attractions in Mumbai is the Elephanta Caves, which are a series of historical religious temple caves located on an island off the coast of Mumbai. To get there, you can take a boat from the Gateway of India. We decided to go there first thing in the morning to try to avoid the crowds. I thought it was well worth it.
6:56 Gomantak Boarding House (Dadar West) - One of the top Mumbai foods I wanted to try when I was in Mumbai was Bombay duck, also known and bombil, which is actually not duck at all, but lizardfish. We took a taxi to Dadar West and went to a restaurant called Gomantak that specializes in Malvani cuisine (from the area of Mumbai) and always has Bombay duck on their menu. I ordered the Bombay duck fry, fried pieces of lizardfish that came with the full thali set, including rice and a few curries and chutneys on the side. I also couldn’t resist ordering a side dish of pomfret masala. One interesting thing from this amazing Mumbai restaurant was solkadhi - made from coconut milk and kokum fruit, and it was my first time to try it. Total price - 710 INR ($10.60)
14:14 Ashok Vada Pav - One of the most important Mumbai street food snacks is vada pav, which is a fried potato cutlet stuffed into a bun and seasoned with some flavorful chutneys and spices. It’s sometimes known as the Mumbai vegetarian burger. Ashok Vada Pav is known for serving one of the best vada pav in Mumbai, and they also have some serious history to them. When I took my first bite, I knew exactly why it was so popular. It was absolutely sensationally delicious. It was a little on the salty side, but the vada pav was so good, with a balance of salty, spicy, sweet, and crunchy. Vada pav is one of the most popular Mumbai street foods, but at Ashok vada pav you’ll find one of the best in Mumbai. Vada pav (vada pao) - 20 INR ($0.30).
18:36 Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum - 100 INR ($1.49) - After the amazing vada pav, we took a taxi over to the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, which is another good museum to visit when you are in Mumbai. I especially liked the actual building.
19:58 Bagdadi Restaurant - For dinner we headed back to Colaba near to our hotel and ate at another legendary Mumbai restaurant known for serving north Indian Mughlai food. The one dish I had to order was chicken masala fry, and I also got daal and palak paneer. Although all the food was indeed on the buttery and oily side, it was incredibly delicious. Total price - 515 INR ($7.70).
