Chinese First Lady Attends AIDS Control Advocacy Activity and Award Ceremony for UNESCO Educatio
Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Tuesday invited foreign guests to an advocacy activity on HIV/AIDS control in the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen.
Among the guests were Gloria Bongekile Ngema, wife of South African President Jacob Zuma, Djene Kaba Conde, wife of Guinean President Alpha Conde, Angelica Rivera, wife of Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, and Naraporn Chan-o-cha, wife of Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The activity, held at Xiamen University, aims to raise public awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention and control, especially among young people, and eliminate discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS, Peng said.
She said the activity will also help promote health cooperation among BRICS countries and other developing countries.
Peng and the guests watched an exhibition on HIV/AIDS control efforts in universities and listened to an anti-AIDS report.
Thanks to the efforts of Peng, who is also the World Health Organization goodwill ambassador for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, such advocacy activity has been conducted on more than 50 Chinese university campuses, an official of China's National Health and Family Planning Commission said.
Peng and the guests also attended an awarding ceremony of Prize for Girls' and Women's Education of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at Xiamen University on the same day.
Peng and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova awarded prizes to representatives of three winning projects from Thailand, Peru and South Africa.
Peng, also special envoy of UNESCO for the promotion of girls' and women's education, said valuing education is a fine tradition of the Chinese nation and help should be offered to women and children in need to enable them to have the opportunities and capacity to change their fate and live a better life.
She hoped that the BRICS countries, other developing countries and the rest of the world will make joint efforts in promoting the development of women's and children's education.
The activity followed the 9th BRICS Summit and the Dialogue of Emerging Market and Developing Countries.
BRICS countries are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
China, which holds the rotating presidency of BRICS this year, has proposed BRICS Plus to invite leaders of five other developing countries -- Egypt, Mexico, Thailand, Tajikistan and Guinea -- to the summit for the dialogue.

Episode 50 - The City of Money
May 9. Guangzhao is a very money and transaction centred city. It has some of the best products to buy in China, but it's a bit impersonal and people go there to spend illicit money. I am looking forward to trying some Guangzhao food at some point.

In the year 2011, Only the TOP 3 winners from SM Little Stars Grand Finals experienced the China Tour.
Including Boy Grandwinner - Steven Ocampo , Girl Grandwinner - Rowena Anne Grado , First Runner Up - Kate Gellian Vinas SM Little Stars 2011 Grandfinals trip to china part 1
MANILA, Philippines - The SM Little Stars 2011 winners recently had an amazing tour of China as part of the cultural exchange program between the Philippines and China, where SM has its malls. Grand prize winners Steven Ocampo and Rowena Grado, together with first runner-up winner Kate Gellian Viñas enjoyed the five-day tour of Xiamen, Jinjiang and GuLangyu Island with their parents.
The kids had a chance to visit Taopi Entertainment Center before traveling to SM City Xiamen to watch the grand finals of SM Little Stars, where they bonded with their counterparts from SM's China malls. They then traveled to SM Jinjiang and Gulangyu Island, the island of music known for its scenic beauty and appreciation for music.
They also had a good time at Xiamen's Sunlight Rock and Shuzhuang Garden, Piano Museum and 44 bridge. A tour would not be complete without shopping at Zhongshan Road with a wide range of stalls to choose from.
The experience as SM Little Stars not only allowed the kids to learn about different cultures and travel to different cities but also opened doors to careers in modeling, singing, dancing and acting at such a young age.
This year, SM Supermalls will again give kiddie talents the chance to shine in the SM Little Stars 2012 search. Over P2.5M and more exciting prizes at stake for the winners: P150,000 cash and shopping money, P10,000 worth of gift certificates from Toy Kingdom and SM Storyland, scholarship in ice skating lessons for six sessions, Bowling Summer Scholarship, children's prep singing training at Center for Pop Music, college grant from National University worth P320,000, basic personality development program from John Robert Powers and of course a free trip to China.
Like Steven and Rowena, you too can be an SM Little Star. Cute, talented and adorable kids can register now at all SM Supermalls. Finalists will be announced on July 22 and the grand finals will be on Aug. 26.

More Terracotta Army Soldiers Discovered In China
More Terracotta Army Soldiers Discovered In China - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
Archaeologists in China have just discovered an additional 110 terracotta soldier statues near the capital city of Beijing. The lost terracotta army was buried for over 2 thousand years before being discovered by peasants digging a well in 1974. Each of the more than 8 thousand life size statues has unique facial features, gestures, clothing and hairstyle, and some are holding actual ancient weapons such as axes, swords, spears and archery equipment. The terracotta army was created to protect the first emperor of China in the afterlife.
Along with the thousands of soldiers, there are also statues of horses and chariots buried on the archeological site. The most significant discovery this time around is that the relics that were found were well-preserved and colourfully painted, said the head of the archaeological department. The excavation team says that it has also located the site of 11 more soldier statues, but has yet to dig them up. The Tomb of the First Emperor, which includes the terracotta army vaults, was added to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987.
The Real Chinese New Year Experience
In the West we think of the Chinese New Year as being a time of public festivities, celebrations, and parades, but the opposite is true: city streets are deserted as everyone goes home. This is the real Chinese New Year experience.
