======== Church of the Saviour, Beijing =====
The Church of the Saviour (Chinese: 救世主堂), colloquially referred to as Xishiku Church (Chinese: 西什库天主堂) or Beitang (Chinese: 北堂; literally: the North Church) is a historic Catholic church in the Xicheng District, Beijing, China. Of all the cathedrals and churches located in Beijing, the Xishiku church is one of the most ornate and magnificent.
The church was originally established by the Jesuits in 1703 near Zhongnanhai (opposite the former Beijing Library), on land bestowed by the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing dynasty to the Jesuits in 1694, following his recovery from illness thanks to medical expertise of Fathers Jean-François Gerbillon and Joachim Bouvet.[1] The emperor also hand-wrote the calligraphy plaque and couplets for the building. It was named Saviour Church and officially opened on 9 February 1703.[2]
In 1887 the church was moved and rebuilt at its current location, at the request of the Guangxu Emperor, who needed the original space near the Forbidden City to create the Zhongnanhai Park. The cathedral's present cast iron Gothic architectural style and elaborate grey marble facade was built in 1890, under the direction of Lazarist missionary Bishop Pierre-Marie-Alphonse Favier (1837-1905), who designed it. The church stands in a spacious grounds surrounded by pine and oak tree and two Chinese pavilions.[3]
The church is also where the Beijing Bishop Office is located and it is affiliated with the Patriotic Catholic Church of China.

Church in So China Catholic church in Fuzhou
It's interesting to see how the winds of time have come and gone so many times and yet some of these old church buildings remain the same just waiting.
I'm a translator and interpreter in south China. I've made a hobby of traveling around to various old churches in Southern China; and I make videos of them. I've got about 30 videos and will be slowly uploading them over time. VPN connections in China (which are necessary if you want to access youtube from behind the Chinese government's firewall) are rather slow when uploading (and not great when downloading either) ... so if you check back for translated church-related videos please be patient .....

Hundreds gather at Beijing cathedral to celebrate Holy Saturday
(31 Mar 2018) HUNDREDS GATHER AT BEIJING CATHEDRAL TO CELEBRATE HOLY SATURDAY
Chinese Catholics celebrated Holy Saturday in Beijing with a prayer service centred on hymns and the lighting of candles.
Hundreds gathered in the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in the Chinese capital on the day before Easter.
The cathedral itself is a testament to the tenacity of the Christian community in China, having been rebuilt after being burned down in 1900.
It is currently led by a bishop that was appointed by the state, against global papal dictates.
Not long after speaking to his flock in southern China, another Catholic bishop was taken away by government agents for what they described as a vacation — a euphemistic term in China for an enforced disappearance.
Bishop Guo Xijin is at the centre of talks between the Vatican and the atheist Communist Party that will likely yield a deal on who appoints bishops in China.
The move would be historic, uniting the country's Catholics for the first time since Beijing and the Holy See severed relations nearly seven decades ago.
For years, China's Catholics have been split between those who follow state-authorised churches outside the Vatican's authority and those who attend underground churches that swear fealty to the pope.
Rumours about the imminent agreement between the Chinese government and the Vatican had at least some of the faithful celebrating.
I hope that will day will come true and soon. And we all the hope the Pope comes to China to visit us, Catherine Li, a 28-year old Catholic said in Beijing.
