Yosemite Area Regional Transportation (YARTS)
The views on the way to Yosemite are incredible -- when you aren't busy watching the road. Many YARTS riders tell us they see things they never saw when driving. Our comfortable, air conditioned buses offer lots of room for you and all your gear. Under bus storage is available for backpacks, bikes and luggage. Inside you'll find reclining seats, overhead racks and individual reading lights, plus a convenient restroom. All buses are wheelchair accessible. The bus gets to drive in the bus lane (when deployed) delivering you to the Valley floor, in an expedited manner. Come see for yourself.

Yarts bus Merced Ca to Yosemite Valley Part 1 of 2
Yarts buses are nice. As you can hear they are a little rattily. The buses I was on had bathrooms. It is very nice that they have their schedules clearly posted at each stop.
It is amazing that in just an hour this bus goes from flat farmland to 3000 to 4000 foot valley.

Take The Yarts Bus to Yosemite
The Yarts Bus Route starts in Fresno at the Airport and makes several stops to pick up passengers before reaching Yosemite Valley. Take the bus, sit back, relax, and skip driving along the cliffs and curves.
Yosemite by Train and Bus | United States | 5 Minutes Trip
Yosemite Valley is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, 150 miles (240 km) due east of San Francisco. It stretches for 7.5 miles (12 km) in a roughly east–west direction, with an average width of about 1 mile (1.6 km).
Yosemite Valley represents only one percent of the park area, but this is where most visitors arrive and stay. More than half a dozen creeks tumble from hanging valleys at the top of granite cliffs that can rise 3000–3500 feet (914–1067 m) above the valley floor, which itself is 4000 ft (1219 m) above sea level. These streams combine into the Merced River, which flows out from the western end of the valley, down the rest of its canyon to the San Joaquin Valley. The flat floor of Yosemite Valley holds both forest and large open meadows, which have views of the surrounding crests and waterfalls.
Below is a description of these features, looking first at the walls above, moving west to east as a visitor does when entering the valley, then visiting the waterfalls and other water features, returning east to west with the flow of water.
The first view of Yosemite Valley many visitors see is the Tunnel View. So many paintings were made from a viewpoint nearby that the National Park Service named that viewpoint Artist Point.
Yosemite by Train
The view from the lower (western) end of the Valley contains the great granite monolith El Capitan on the left, and Cathedral Rocks on the right with Bridalveil Fall. Just past this spot the Valley suddenly widens with the Cathedral Spires, then the pointed obelisk of Sentinel Rock to the south.
Yosemite by Train
Across the Valley on the northern side are the Three Brothers, rising one above the other like gables built on the same angle – the highest crest is Eagle Peak, with the two below known as the Middle and Lower Brothers.

Visiting Yosemite on Amtrak: Yosemite National Park by Rail
In the days before cars and airplanes, trains provided the way for travelers to visit the numerous National Parks around the United States. Today, travelers can still use Amtrak to enjoy some of America’s most popular national parks.
Yosemite National Park is one of America’s oldest and most scenic national parks. Because of the scenery, more than 4 million visitors visit Yosemite National Park. Because of the high number of visitors, driving can be a bit of a hassle. Instead, by adding a mere two hours to the journey, visitors can travel from downtown San Francisco to the heart of the Yosemite Valley in six hours for less than $50. Today, To The Trains looks at this journey and ways to enjoy the park.

Yosemite Area Regional Transportation Show
This week my guest, Dick Whittington, of the Merced County Association of Governments, talks about YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation Service) and the Merced Multi-Modal Transportation system that connects air, rail, automobile and bus passengers with our area. The City of Merced has been a major access point into the Mariposa/Yosemite region since the 1850s. Today, that role has expanded significantly. The YART system passed it's one millionth passenger mark this summer and new expanded services are planned for the region.

YARTS: Yosemite Shuttle: Stop #14/Curry Village - Stop #16/Happy Isles
As most wouldn't know, there is indeed public transportation in Yosemite National Park. And another thing? It's free! And another thing? The Yosemite Shuttle more frequent than BART!
The shuttle whisks you around the Yosemite Valley, including Curry Village and Yosemite Village, with a frequency of 10 minutes, even in Winter.
This has to be the most scenic ride I've ever been on, and certainly the most beautiful video on Bay Area Transit News. The shuttle travels across gorgeous creeks and rivers, meadows, and of course, the famous Yosemite wilderness. And all around you, the whole time, are massive granite mountains towering above 8,000 feet. The shuttle even happened to drive past deer!
YARTS, or Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System, provides regional and local bus service to Yosemite National Park, Fresno, Merced, Sonora and Mammoth Lakes, as well as the beautiful June Lake Loop off Highway 395.
The free Yosemite Shuttle runs in a loop between Curry Village and Yosemite Village, stopping at hikes, shops, campgrounds, and tons of other activities along the way. All Yosemite Shuttle buses are hybrids, helping to save Yosemite's pristine environment that so many, especially Europeans, fall in love with.
