Start your tour of Kobe at the top of Kitano-zaka, the steep slope which leads to the mountains where many foreign residences still remain, known as Ijinkan. At the Uroko House and Uroko Museum, the house gives a view into the lifestyle of the previous residents, while the museum offers an art collection plus a great city view. Nearby is Yamate Hachiban-kan, a Tudor-style mansion built in the late Meiji period, where we can find an eclectic art collection. Next, visit the reconstructed Kitano Foreigner’s Club which served as a social salon. For lunch, the charming Nishimura Coffee Kitanozaka offers an elegant lunch. Then, going down the slope and heading towards the ocean, visit the Sawaranotsuru Sake Museum for an informative tour and tasting. Back to the mountains, take the Rokko Cable Car to the Tenran Observatory for a spectacular view of Kobe. Finish the day savoring the view with dinner at the Tenran Cafe.
