Yangpachen hotspring in Tibet

The famous Yangpachen Hot Spring is located on the southern slope of the Nyenchen Tangula Mountains. It is 90 km to the northwest of Lhasa. It takes 2 hours from Lhasa to get to the Yangpachen Hotspring. It is close to the Qinghai-Tibet Highway and Railway in the Damxung County.

You can plan your one-day trip to Yangpachen Hotspring from Lhasa or after visiting the Holy Lake Nam-co. You can even stay at Yangpachen for several nights, there is a 3* hotel at the hotspring area.

The tourists starting to come here tend to want to learn about our culture and traditions. Especially if they come for events like we saw today - with the dancing and singing. If we can show them some of our culture it is a good thing.

LEADIN
Tucked away in a Himalayan mountain valley in South Eastern Tibet, villagers and nomads from miles around gather for a festive close to the Lunar New Year holiday Losar (pronounced: Low-sar).
The Tibetans hold this festival 15 days after the start of the New Year - the day of the first full moon.
STORYLINE
About 100 extended families gather at a sacred site outside Lu Lang Village.
They come by motorcycle, truck and even tractor to celebrate the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday together.
Some participants travel from as far as 8 hours away to be here for the festival, but most came from 7 or 8 villages in the area.
The groups spread out picnic lunches with snacks and home-made drinks and then start to visit and mingle, sitting together among the prayer flags and tractors to catch-up with acquaintances and relatives they might not see at other times of the year.
The talk is of the cold Tibetan winter that is coming to a close and about the growing season to come.
Children play, eat and wander among the community freely.
After had lunch they gather near a shrine for traditional dancing.
