Top 5 Resorts Near Yellowstone Video (HD)
Many visitors to Yellowstone choose stay in the park at one of the many lodges, or at campsites with their vehicles. However, you usually have to book way in advance to get the best spots, so finding the right place to stay near the park can be a make or break aspect for your enjoyment at America's premier national park.
When deciding where to stay near Yellowstone, I look for a couple of things: proximity to the park, comfort and style of the facilities, and activities other than the park that may be available nearby.
Using these criteria, I've compiled a list of my 5 favorite places stay. This list is by no means definitive. I have stayed at places that are very nice that check all my boxes on the list, but to be on this list, there has to be something special about the place that makes it different than anywhere else.
That's why the Best Western in Cody isn't on here, even though it's a great place to stay. Or the Buffalo Bill Cabins adjacent to that property.
So enjoy the video, feel free to ask questions and above all....GET TO YELLOWSTONE NOW!
OLD FAITHFUL & Mammoth Hot Springs | Yellowstone National Park & Red Lodge, Montana Roadtrip
Visit Red Lodge! It is a beautiful town, right on the way to Beartooth pass in Yellowstone National Park, in Montana.
My mother, Carla, and I are road tripping through beautiful Montana. We stayed for a night in Red Lodge, since we heard it is so picturesque and beautiful.
When we woke up at the Lupine Inn, we drank some free hotel coffee, and had a quick swim in the pool. Hungry for food, we then went for lunch at Bogart's Restaurant downtown. We ordered fried pickles, jalapeno poppers and Mexican enchiladas. The food is extremely delicious here, and good value.
After lunch, we decided to work off some calories, so we walked the whole length of the main street of Red Lodge.
We were anxious to see animals. Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary, all rescued animals who need care, is also in downtown Red Lodge and welcomes guests to see their bears, foxes and other animals. Community funded, the animals here are deemed unable to survive in the wild. They try to provide the best life for the animals. There are many signs to be quiet, so as not to scare the animals.
Before traveling out of town to drive up Beartooth Pass Highway, we first stopped at the old train station, where the art takes over the indoors, from floor to ceiling. Admission is all free, but the art is for sale.
It was our time to target on the road to Yellowstone, by way of Beartooth Pass. We headed into the mountains to Beartooth Highway Pass, up to the state line where Montana meets Wyoming. Unfortunately, there was too much ice and snow on the roads to continue -- the road was closed off for the rest of the winter already.
We had no other choice but to drive up to the North gate at Gardiner, Montana, entrance to Yellowstone to enter. Along the way, we saw moose and deer along the road. Once we entered Yellowstone National Park, we enjoyed the sighs of Mammoth hot springs and Old Faithful Geyser.
We left Yellowstone from the south gate entrance at Wyoming, that goes through the Grand Teton Park. The sunsets were incredible in the wide open Montana and Wyoning skies.
Where we ate:
Bogart's Restaurant
11 Broadway Ave S, Red Lodge, MT 59068
(406) 446-1784
Where we saw the animals:
Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary
615 2nd St E, Red Lodge, MT 59068
(406) 446-1133
Where to go see art:
Carbon County Arts Guild & Depot Gallery
11 8th St W, Red Lodge, MT 59068
(406) 446-1370
Where we slept (cheapest in town):
Lupine Inn Red Lodge
702 Hauser Ave S, Red Lodge, MT 59068
(406) 445-3301
Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is better, but if you want to see the geyser (joking):
Old Faithful

Top Things to See at Yellowstone National Park
We spent two days exploring the amazing and unique Yellowstone National Park. Definitely visit if you haven't yet. Here are the top things you must see at Yellowstone:
0:40 - Upper Geyser Basin. The largest concentration of geysers in the world. Also the home to Old Faithful.
2:02 - Old Faithful. Erupts every 90 minutes pretty faithfully.
4:31 - Fairy Falls Trail to the Grand Prismatic Spring overlook. I suggest doing this if it's warm out - the cold weather makes so much steam that it obscures the view.
5:30 - Grand Prismatic Spring. One of the largest hot springs and an iconic Yellowstone highlight.
6:42 - Isa Lake and the Continental Divide. Honestly not a must-see at Yellowstone, but it was for us. It's only 20 minutes beyond Old Faithful.
7:07 - Fountain Paint Pots. Boiling mud, the dragon's lair (the red spouter), and our favorite geyser (sorry Old Faithful).
8:36 - Gibbon Falls. Worth a 2-minute stop. Great views. It's on the way to Canyon Village with Artist Point and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.
8:43 - Artist Point, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We still can't get over this view. It literally looks like a painting, even in real life.
9:31 - Uncle Tom's Point. Uncle Tom's Trail is a crazy steep trail, but it's really short. Your legs WILL be burning after this. Not good for people with a fear of heights.
11:06 - Canyon Overlook from Uncle Tom's Point. Wheelchair accessible trail with a great view of the Upper Falls.
11:22 - Canyon Overlook from the north side of the canyon. Great views of Lower Falls and the entire canyon.
11:39 - Brink of Lower Falls Trail. Switchbacks all the way down, but relatively short hike to within feet of the edge of Lower Falls. Really cool view.
13:02 - Calcite Springs Overlook. View of molten sulfur seeping out of the side of a mountain. Worth a 2-minute stop.
13:19 - Mammoth Hot Springs. Terraced hot springs. Super unique, really pretty.
14:26 - Canary Springs. The very top part of Mammoth Hot Springs. Personally this was our favorite part of Mammoth Hot Springs.
14:55 - Norris Geyser Basin. This geyser basin isn't quite is cool as Upper Geyser Basin, but one section of it is called Porcelain Basin, and that part is awesome. It includes a ton of fumaroles, lots of really colorful hot pools, and a vibrant green river that looks like it's straight out of Oz.
15:48 - Artists' Paintpots. Small section of paintpots that includes a few mud pits and lots of nice views.
Lamar Valley. If you want to see wildlife at Yellowstone, like bears, wolves, and bison, you need to go to Lamar Valley. It would have been too much driving and time to fit into our route on this trip, and we were more interested in seeing nature, landscapes, and thermal features, which is why we focused there. But if you'd rather see animals, definitely include Lamar Valley on your Yellowstone itinerary.

RV Travel Life | Mammoth Hot Springs - Yellowstone National Park
We took the west entrance of the park, going north, to Mammoth Hot Springs. We made stops along the way at Gibbon Falls, and saw the new road being built heading up to Mammoth Hot Springs. There is currently construction between Norris Basin and Mammoth Hot Springs. We recommend not taking wide vehicles down this road until the construction is finished (today is 6/3/17). Roads were VERY narrow.

Best Place to Vacation/Stay Near Yellowstone National Park - UXU Ranch near Cody Wyoming
From scenic horseback riding, fishing (the video was taken in May the water will settle down and be crystal clear after the spring run-off is done), hiking, wildlife, photography, great food, peace and quiet, and genuine cowboys and cowgirls that can tell you a yarn or two.
The UXU Ranch is nestled between the Washakie Wilderness to the South and the North Absaroka Wilderness to the North (wilderness.net for more information about wilderness) along the North fork of the Shoshone River and in the Shoshone National Forest. Just West of the UXU Ranch is Mummy Cave (while heading towards Yellowstone from UXU when you come to the first bridge after UXU Ranch park at the parking area on the right just before the bridge. The cave is easily found by following the trail to the small wooden fence.
My time there was greatly enhanced by taking a 2 hour horse back ride on Friday and a 1 hour horseback ride on Saturday. The views were amazing and they have options for trails of all skill levels. They also have options up to an all day horseback ride (or even multiple days). Currently (as of May 2018) the price for the 1 hour ride was $45 and the 2 hour ride was $65 which honestly was a bargain as I really enjoyed my time with Pooch (the cowboy in front of me) and his daughter Sherry. I definitely felt like Billy Crystal in City Slickers with how smooth the two of them looked while riding a horse but the two of them made me feel nothing but confidence despite not having been on a horse since the early 1990's.
If you go, which I recommend you do, tell them Captain America sent you! You can make reservations, or call, via their website uxuranch.com and trust me when I say you won't forget a vacation at that ranch. Plus, Theodore Roosevelt is claimed to have stated that from Cody to the East Entrance of Yellowstone is the 50 most beautiful miles in America and this Ranch is very much a part of that stretch for good reason!

Yellowstone NP in winter ~ Gardiner, MT to Mammoth Hot Springs (2-15-14)
This is a winter drive from the gateway town of Gardiner, Montana into the North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park (the first U.S. National Park, established in 1872). Only the North and Northeast entrances are kept open in winter (and the 52 miles between them, across the Lamar Valley). From Mammoth, the road to Norris closes at the Upper Terrace in the winter. The Mammoth area is a wintering ground for some of the park's bison and elk, which means wolves can sometimes be seen here.
