Join us as we take a walk through part of the Yosemite Valley Loop Trail. It's fall and the colors are bright. The leaves are falling off the trees.
It was a great walk and a great bus ride back.

Mist Trail Hike in Yosemite National Park (4K)
Mist Trail Hike in Yosemite National Park (4K)
The Mist Trail in Yosemite is one of the most popular hikes in the entire park. The 3 miles round trip takes you up 1,000 feet of elevation as you climb up stairs to the top of Vernal Falls. You can continue on from here to Nevada Falls as well. It is a great but tough uphill hike in the park.

El Capitan via Yosemite Falls Trail - Yosemite National Park, CA 10-1- 2016
El Capitan via Yosemite Falls Trail
16 miles RT
3,600 Elevation Gain
Hiking to the top of El Capitan was my bucket list for a long time ever since I saw El Cap when I visited Yosemite for the first time back in my college days. I still remember vividly the awestruck sensation I felt when I saw the looming monolith in the Yosemite valley. Along with Half Dome, El Cap is a famed icon for many rock climbers just like Mt. Everest for mountaineers.
The hardest part of El Cap hike via Yosemite Falls Trail takes place for the first 3.2 miles of Yosemite Falls trail trekking up and up the rocky and slippery granite trail gaining 2,700 feet elevation. However, no pain, no gain. The reward at the top of El Cap is unforgettable....breathtaking panoramic views of Yosemite Valley and High Sierras. It's a must do hike if you want to stand on the top of El Cap unless you are a hardcore rock climber to be able to scale the vertical face of the iconic monolith of Yosemite!

Distance: 11.5 mi (18.5 km) full loop; 7.2 mi (11.6 km) half loop
Elevation gain: Mostly level
Difficulty: Moderate
Time: 5-7 hours full loop, 2.5-3.5 hours half loop
Begin at: Lower Yosemite Fall (shuttle stop #6) [head west along the bicycle path until you see signs for the Valley Loop Trail]
This trail follows many of the Valley's first east-west trails and wagon roads. It offers a rare opportunity in Yosemite Valley: to hike on a fairly level trail with some solitude. While some of the trail passes near roads, much of it takes you through meadows, talus slopes at the base of the granite cliffs, and near the Merced River. You can access the trail from many places throughout the Valley; however, the mileage and description used here starts at the Lower Yosemite Fall area (follow signs for Valley Loop Trail). Route-finding can be difficult in places, so it is best to bring a map with you (even a simple day hiking brochure from the visitor center) as it will orient you with the various landforms in the Valley, which are often listed on the trail/directional signs.

We drove up to the Bridalveil Falls parking lot for a quick day hike on the Valley Loop Trail.
After spending the majority of the hike on the valley floor, we round this one out with a jaunt up the Rock Fall Trail for some unique views of the valley.

Original music by Jeremy Pruitt (acoustic guitar) & Jim Smyth (percussion).
Video was shot primarily on a Sony a6500, with some B-roll on a GoPro Hero 4 and was edited in Adobe Premiere w/ animation from Adobe After Effects.
The acoustic guitar is a Larrivee OM-40 in CGCGGC tuning, and the percussion is a Schlagwerk Bass Cajon and Cajinto with egg shakers. All instruments were recorded on a Zoom H6 and mixed using Avid Pro Tools First.

I made this trip in August, 2015. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Yosemite • ARRIVING IN THE VALLEY for sunset
Arriving in Yosemite at any time of year is downright magical... Especially when it's free!
We arrive at Yosemite National Park in late September, after a six hour drive from Los Angeles. It was National Public Lands Day, so the usual $30 admission was waived (from November -March it's $25). After a quick stop at the Wawona Hotel, we proceeded to Tunnel View, to get the sunset. Tunnel view was made popular by Ansel Adams, and again when Apple revealed their Yosemite and El Capitan operating systems.
The travel time from the South Gate of Yosemite to the hotels of the Yosemite Valley is about 1-1.5 hours, depending on who you're driving behind. We've stayed at the Tenaya Lodge, just outside the South Gate. It's a GREAT hotel. But, if you plan on spending time in the valley, you'll find yourself in your car for at least hours a day. So, when possible, we like to stay in the valley.
The Wawona is about 4 miles inside the South Gate. While it's still about an hour from the valley, it is inside the park, and there are nice trails and amenities to make it worth staying there. AND it's the most economical hotel in the park.
On this night, we stayed at the Lodge at Yosemite Falls. I have a video to release talking about the various lodging options, BUT I'm waiting until March 1, 2016 to post it. Due to a dispute with the company that ran the parks accommodations (there was a switchover), the names of many of the hotels are in dispute. Anyway, this night we stayed at the Lodge. But, at the computer's were down, we went to Curry Village for drinks (and pizza) while we waited. I would have shot the pizza, but it was getting too dark.
Unlike many other locations that cater to tourists, I like that you're not gouged by prices in Yosemite National Park. While the accommodations can add up, there are economical food options in many of the valley's eateries.

Yosemite National Park Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Yosemite – an American story unlike any other. Follow us through the national park from its high country to its waterfalls, its towering sequoia groves to its valley meadows.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Yosemite National Park:
#YosemiteNationalPark sits on the western slopes of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. Most visitors spend their #vacation in Yosemite Valley, which despite being only 7 miles long and 1 mile wide, packs in more jaw-dropping scenery than just about any other place on Earth.
#Visit Tunnel View and stand before a panorama that’s reduced generations of visitors to silence. The Yosemite Valley ring road follows the banks of the Merced River, which shifts in character as it thunders from the valley walls, before gently winding across the valley floor. The ring road is dotted with trailheads that lead to 800 miles of hiking trails.
Drive along Tioga Road, one of the USA’s most scenic highways. Fill your lungs with alpine air at Olmsted Point, refresh yourself by the waters of Tenaya Lake, then spend the day at Tuolumne Meadow, the traditional summer hunting grounds of the Ahwaneechee.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

8 Things to do in Yosemite Valley in the Winter
Yosemite Valley is one of the top destinations in California and easily one of the most beautiful places in the state. While most people choose to visit in the summer, it is incredibly busy, and a winter visit to the valley is one of the best ways to experience the park. Here are some of my favorite winter stops in the Yosemite Valley.

Upper Yosemite Falls (Yosemite National Park, CA) Review
This was Mike's first visit to Yosemite in his adult hiking life and decided to do the Upper Yosemite Falls trail with his family. This is one difficult hike! The mileage may not sound intimidating (out and back at 7 miles) but believe me this one is STRENUOUS. The trail is available all year. It is pretty much up the whole way. It starts at Camp 4 along the Valley Loop Trail, and takes you through forrest regions that eventually open up exposing brilliant panoramas of the Yosemite Valley. This crazy switchback adventure opens up beautifully exposing you to the falls up close and personal. Mike talks about the falls how they are so powerful and breathtaking (though the drought may have affected it now). You can photograph Half Dome and Yosemite Falls in the same frame on this hike, absolutely breathtaking.
At the top of the Yosemite Falls Trail, you can extend your hike east to Yosemite Point (follow signs for North Dome; adds 1.6 miles roundtrip (2.6 km) to this hike) or west to Eagle Peak (follow signs to El Capitan, adds 5.8 miles roundtrip (9.3 km) to this hike)(Lots of switchbacks the views are some of the most amazing views.
Top of Yosemite Falls Distance: 7.2 miles (11.6 km) round tripElevation: 2,700 ft (823 m) elevation gain
Difficulty: R
Time: 6-8 hours round trip
Begin at: Camp 4 area (near shuttle stop #7 and El Capitan Shuttle stop #E2)
Bottles of water: at least (3) 1.5L or more
Animals: Prohibited
Yosemite Valley and the Mist Trail to Vernal Fall, Yosemite National Park
Our first day in Yosemite National Park. We drove in to Yosemite Valley, taking time to stop at Tunnel View, Bridalveil Fall and El Capitan. We then hiked up the Mist Trail up to Vernal Fall, Emerald Pool and Silver Apron. What a great day! Highlights from our California Roadtrip, August 2018, from Palm Springs to San Francisco, exploring the National Parks, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, then visiting Lake Tahoe before heading home from San Francisco. What a roadtrip!
Clouds Rest: Hiking to One of Yosemite's Best Viewpoints
Clouds Rest: Hiking to One of Yosemite's Best Viewpoints
The 13 mile out and back hike to Cloud's Rest off Tioga Pass is one of the better hikes in the national park. It is a strenuous grind as you make your way through the forest and across the ridge line to the top of this granite slab. When you get to the top though you will be looking down on Half Dome from a vantage point 1,000 feet higher and the views are mind-blowing.

Yosemite Falls & Yosemite Point Hike (4K)
Hiking to the top of Yosemite Falls and Yosemite Point
This hike is one of the most popular in the Yosemite Valley, but many people underestimate how hard it is and do not make it to the top. It is a challenging hike but it has amazing views and you get to say you hiked to the top of the tallest waterfall in North America. Add on the extra 1.5 miles to get to Yosemite Point for great views of the valley if you are feeling up to it. The hike to the top of Yosemite Falls is 7.2 miles round trip and to Yosemite Point it is 8.4 miles round trip.

Valley Loop Trail - Lots of Water! Yosemite National Park
This is one of many views that you can see along the Valley Floor Trail. I suggest taking this easy-to-moderate trail when you are in the Valley. You will find it less crowded too.
