Wild SHANGHAI STREET FOOD in City God Temple + Yu Gardens Tour | Shanghai, China
In April of 2019, I had the pleasure of visiting China for the second time in my life. I spent 12 days exploring and eating my way through the cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou. I had the time of my life and I can’t wait to share my adventures with you!
Newman Tours:
My second full day in China continued in Shanghai when I met up with my friend Daniel from Newman Tours. They offer incredible tours in cities all over China. We started our adventure in the Old Town of Shanghai at the beautiful Yu Gardens.
Our journey began at a replica of one of the four original entrances of the old town. We saw a statue of a mythological creature with a very interesting backstory outside of a jewelry store.
Our first stop was a place selling deep-fried local crabs. There are salty and spicy varieties. I went with the spicy one and dug into the meat in the middle. It was really nice and crispy. They were so meaty and delicious. I could eat everything on it, but the middle had so much meat in it!
Then we headed off to try the original xiaolongbao from 1900. To get there, we had to pass through a temple and marketplace area. We passed lots of street food vendors along the way. These xiaolongbao contain crab and pork. They’re much bigger than the regular xiaolongbao. You have to pop them with a straw to drink the soup before you eat them!
The soup inside was so hot. There was a lot of it inside! Then I grabbed my chopsticks and dove in. They’re huge and much thicker than the other xiaolongbaos I’d had, but it was so delicious!
We continued on to Yu Market, which has been around since the 16th century, and Yu Garden. It’s very clean and feels like an open-air mall. The temple architecture is stunning and there are so many things to see!
We headed on to a restaurant that sells over 100 dishes, including sweet and sour soups, dumplings, sticky rice, snails, pot stickers, eel, squid, and much more!
I went with some glutinous sticky rice balls with red bean paste inside. It was too hot and was super sticky and kind of slimy on the outside. I loved the red bean paste inside. Daniel brought me some coconut juice from Hainan Island near Vietnam. The juice was delicious and refreshing. It was straight coconut juice!
Then we crossed the zigzag bridge, which zigs and zags to lost ghosts, which were traditionally thought to only be able to travel in a straight line. I love learning about history. Ahead of us was a tea house.
There was a statue of the goddess of the lotuses. You make a wish and try to toss your coin onto the lotus pad she stands on. If I get it, I get two wishes. I got one inside and wished for a million subscribers!
Next, we went into Yu Garden, which was beautiful and dates back to the Ming Dynasty. It’s thought this temple was built using stolen money from taxpayers! There’s also an ancient rockery or rock garden, which is quite beautiful! I learned so much from Daniel!
There are lots of doorways in the garden. We reached an area where the path forked; long ago, one path was taken by the men and the other by the concubines! Newman Tours provides an audio guide for Yu Gardens that really helps you out!
Coming here is like taking a trip back in time. It’s one of the few areas where you can see things that were built in the 16th century. There was a gorgeous gate with two huge dragons with three fingers. From there, we fed the fish. There are lots of carp there and they’re really big!
We also saw a large rock that was meant to be a gift to for the emperor, but it fell into the river after it was placed on a boat to be transported to the capital. It was fished out hundreds of years later and moved to the garden.
To wrap up, Daniel gave me the opportunity to see my future by using some ancient Chinese fortune sticks. You shake the container containing the sticks until one comes out. On the stick is a fortune that corresponds with one in a booklet. You only want one; if two come out, it means the gods are laughing at you!
I made a different wish and shook out the number 9. It told me to be honest, straight, and true if I win success in life, otherwise I would fail!
I hope you enjoyed my wild Shanghai food tour and Yu Gardens visit! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel!

Chinese Street Food Shanghai - Chinese Street Food - Street Food China
Chinese street food and Chinese Food in China is incredibly delicious! So I flew to Shanghai, China and have been eating street food, noodles, and dumplings non-stop. Best Street Food to try! The Chinese food is so good in Shanghai! I've eaten street food in Bejing, street food in Chengdu, street food in Xi’an, street food in Guangzhou, and now, street food in Shanghai. A lot of the street food in Shanghai is similar to other street food in China. You can find some unique Shanghai street food specialties here, like xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), shengjianbao (pan fried dumplings), seafood on the street, and some delicious noodles as well. You can also enjoy countless other street foods in Shanghai, many featured in this video.

I'm back in China! and this time I decided to take on the country that I first called home & explore its vast lands!
Of course EP 1 begins with landing in #Shanghai, as it is a beautiful metropolitan city about an hour away from my hometown.
There's so much to do and see and eat in Shanghai, first stop, the famous #ShanghaiBund. Where the drinks are pricey but the views are worthy haha.

PLACES:
➤ The bar we visited with the spectacular view was called The Captain, there's a rooftop bar attached to a hostel with the same name. Approx.10-15$ for cocktails (they also serve wine and beer)
I'm not sure how good is the food since i didn't get a chance to try it!

SHANGHAI GOLDEN WEEK: Exploring The Bund & Best Dumplings!! (China Vlog 2019 上海)
Shanghai is home to 25 million Chinese, making it a massive metropolis and one of the largest cities in the world. The Bund is the city's most impressive sight, and not just because of the colonial era buildings lining this famous waterfront promenade. Probably even more impressive are the show-stopping views you have here of Pudong, Shanghai's futuristic skyline located on the opposite side of the river. Perfect way to work up an appetite before indulging in the city's best dumplings: xiao long bao ;)
Not sure what to do in Shanghai? The Bund Shanghai is an absolute highlight of Shanghai travel and not to be missed on your visit to the city! Make it your first stop in the city - it's a great way to gain some good first impressions of Shanghai.
We hope you enjoyed this Shanghai China vlog & the beautiful skyline - there are many more to come as we travel China for a week or so more! NEXT UP: more Shanghai videos! Care to join us on another adventure? Then please make sure to subscribe so you don't miss this next China travel vlog!

My Amazing Trip to Shanghai, China!_11-12-2019
Yours truly, Architect Dennis is up again to something! Touring the 5th largest city in the world, Shanghai, China! It's just amazing to see this wonderful place, a glorious place in China! It's just unfortunate that I can't visit other parts of China due to time constraints. China is so huge! One needs atleast 5-days to visit each landmark to fully enjoy the sights. I crossed the river on a boat to the other side, and saw the skyscrapers from the distance! To God be the Glory! Amen! 11-12-2019

ULTIMATE Shanghai STREET FOOD Breakfast Tour in French Concession | Shanghai, China
I love China. I first visited Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai back in 2015 with my father. I fell in love with the food, culture, and history then, so I jumped at the chance to go back in April of 2019. This time, I visited Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou for a deeper dive into this unique place. I can’t wait to share it all with you!
Follow UnTour Food Tours on Instagram:
On the morning of my second full day in Shanghai, I met back up with my boy Li from UnTour Food Tours. He took me on a mouthwatering street food breakfast tour! Come along with us as we explore more of Shanghai!
We started by watching people do tai chi in a park in the center of the former French Concession.
From there, we stopped at an old-school diner-like eatery with communal seating. We got 4 dishes, including soymilk; a sticky rice ball with shredded pork, duck egg, and vegetables; an oily Chinese churro; and a sweet Chinese flatbread.
I dipped my churro into the soymilk at first. It tasted like the churros in Spain, except without sugar. Then I tore up the rest and let it soak up the milk. It was fantastic!
Next was the dense sticky rice ball, which contained lots of spice, egg, and pickled vegetables. It was really filling!
I finished up with a bite of the crispy, biscuit-like flatbread. It was delicious, but I held off on the rest.
I watched them prepare and fry the churros outside. There were also fried empanada-like dumplings!
Next, we visited a hole-in-the-wall restaurant for a thick, savory, seven-layered pancake with a sweet, red chili sauce. It looked like a dish I’d had in Greece. I loved the crispiness on the outside and softness on the inside. The sauce was really rich and had some spice that snuck up on me!
Our next spot at least 20 varieties of sweet and savory buns for 2 Yuan/roughly $0.30 each. There was a long line, so we’d come back later.
Then, we grabbed my favorite Chinese breakfast food, jianbing. It’s a type of crepe that contains egg, vegetables, a cracker, and sweet and spicy sauces. It was packed with flavor and had a great balance between sweet and spicy! I loved the cilantro!
Next was shepherd’s purse and pork wontons. It contained a delicious soup and was topped with spring onions. It was so juicy and delicious!
Then I had a pot sticker containing soup and sesame oil. You take a nibble and suck the soup out because it’s so hot. The soup inside was so good! I added some chilies and waited for it to cool off. I loved it, especially the crispy bottom!
We also had two steamed buns: one with black sesame and one with egg custard. The black sesame almost tasted like chocolate while the egg custard was super sweet. I liked the egg custard more.
We were getting full, so we took a break from eating. Outside, I watched them prepare the pot stickers and grabbed some coffee. I got a cold brew with coconut water, which was so different and tropical. I loved the natural sweetness!
Then, we saw some lane houses, which are have black gates, huge frames, and courtyards. There were lots of different architectural styles in the area. They were beautiful!
Next, we passed through a popular wet market, an open supermarket where they sell lots of veggies, meat, poultry, and seafood. Then it was time for some hand-pulled noodles, which are always a spectacle!
Our next spot was a 24/7, family-run restaurant. The noodles were covered in a sticky sauce. I added some chili sauce, which was pungent but not too spicy. So good! They were some of the best noodles I’ve ever had!
Next was a tofu bamboo stir-fry with green pepper red onions. It consists of soymilk skin, which has a texture similar to bamboo. I loved the peppers!
Our final dish was xiaolongbao, or soup dumplings, at Loushi Dumpling Shop. They contain ginger. You dip them into black rice vinegar, nibble a corner, and suck out the soup so it doesn’t burn your tongue. They were amazing, but I was so full!
I hope you enjoyed this epic Shanghai street food tour of the French Concession! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel!

In this food video travel vlog, I'm (Trevor James, The Food Ranger), bringing you to eat some of the most UNIQUE Chinese noodles!
We're starting the noodle tour in Beijing, China, and enjoying a huge bowl of Beijing Zhajiangmian AKA Beijing Zhajiang noodles, one of the most fragrant and satisfying noodle chews you'll ever experience. AND, we're complimenting that bowl of Beijing noodles with a delicious bowl of pork organ stew, an intense organ aroma stew with chopped intestines and lungs. Delicious!
After traveling to Beijing to eat noodles, we're flying direct into Lanzhou, the home of the world famous muslim Chinese street food. Here, the local Hui chinese cook up some of the best Halal Chinese food in the world, and have a UNIQUE specialty that is worth flying for, the Lanzhou lamian, AKA Lanzhou ramen AKA lanzhou beef noodle soup! WOW! This is one of the BEST noodle dishes you'll ever taste! And watching the extremely tasty Lanzhou noodles being hand pulled is one of the most satisfying things to watch too! The beef noodle soup is made with beef fat and bone and also lots of local radish which gives it an incredibly complex and satisfying aroma to slurp on!! And you can order up as many slices of beef to put on top of your lanzhou noodles as well!
After traveling to Lanzhou, we're flying in to Chengdu to eat Sichuan food and of course, the one and only Sichuan Dan Dan noodles!!! Dan dan noodles or Dandan mian as they are called here in China are one of the most incredibly aromatic and Xiang bowls of noodles you'll ever experience. The spicy chili oil and the intense pork aroma with a slight earthy kick from pickled mustard greens is truly unlike anything in the whole world. You have to fly here to eat these! They are absolutely incredible! AND, we're topping off the noodles with a nice plump bowl of Hongyouchaoshou AKA Chinese hot chili oil wontons! They burst in your mouth with flavour and chili oil! WOWWW!!! In Chengdu, Sichuan cuisine is at the top of it's game, super flavourful and intense with Sichuan chili and peppercorn, and I definitely recommend flying in to eat it!
After Chengdu dan dan noodles, we're taking a direct flight to Shanghai to eat my personal favourite bowl of noodles in the city, and a bowl that is worth flying in direct to China to eat for, the majiang mian AKA sesame butter noodles. The noodles are full of chili oil and sesame butter mixed together, so you have this EXTREMELY satisfying nutty and spicy combo over top of springy al dente noodles, and, you can top it off with some nice spicy pork chunks! It doesn't get any better than that!! Another BIG WOW!!!
After shanghai, we're finishing this food travel video by flying in direct to Hong Kong, another world famous food destination, to eat some cantonese cuisine and some southern Chinese noodles, the ganchaoniuhe, AKA stir fried chinese rice noodles with tender slices of beef! We're visiting a local daipaidong AKA Chinese street food alley stall that is packed with hungry locals who all love eating tons of delicious Cantonese cuisine and seafood! At this daipaidong, aiwensheng, you can eat a lot of different Chinese seafoods and stir fried cantonese cuisine dishes, but we came in solely to eat the stir fried rice noodles, but we couldn't help ourselves and ordered a mud crab and some fried seafood as well because it looked so good! Another HUGE WOW!! China has some of the best food in the world, and definitely the BEST noodles in the world!!

Top 6 Things to do in Shanghai, China
Shanghai is where Peter was born and where his family are all from. It's the largest city in China based on population and over the years it's become one of the world's most bustling modern metropolises. If you're planning to visit Shanghai, we've compiled our list of Top 6 Things To Do while visiting this mega city.
While eating would normally be in our top things to do lists, we've dedicated an entire video about Shanghai food already and where to get some of the best food in Shanghai which you can check out here:
There are a number of must do activities in Shanghai so we hope you find our list helpful for ideas on where to go in Shanghai and what to do when you're visiting this amazing city.
===============
TOP THINGS TO DO IN SHANGHAI
1 - Yu Garden
Yu Garden / Yu Yuan / Yu Yuan Garden (yuan means garden in Chinese btw) boasts many eateries. It's famous for its Chinese garden and incredible food and tourist scene, making this place a must visit and one of the best things to do in Shanghai. It's a great place to pick up souvenirs too. Be sure to visit both in the day and night to see all the buildings light up.
Address: 218 Anren St, Huangpu, China, 200000
2 - The Bund
When in Shanghai, another must visit attraction is The Bund. The Bund also known as Waitan is Shanghai's main waterfront area in central Shanghai, China. Bask in the view of the amazing Shanghai skyline from Waitan. Shanghai is famous for all their different and very unique skyscraper buildings and The Bund is where you can get a fantastic view of all the incredible modern Chinese and western architecture.
3 - Shanghai Museum
If you're into Chinese history, art and culture, another top thing to do in Shanghai is visit the Shanghai Museum. The renowned Shanghai Museum is home to ancient Chinese relics, filled with galleries and exhibitions showcasing historical national treasures. Bonus thing is that the Shanghai Museum is free entry.
Address: 201 Renmin Avenue, People's Square, Shanghai, 200003
4 - Tianzifang
Tianzi Fang located in the French Quarter is an arts and crafts enclave where you can expect to find interesting boutique shops, bars and restaurants. Tianzifang developed from a renovated traditional residential area in the French Concession area in Shanghai and so you can see some of the older residential homes while walking around the many alleyways and side streets. If you love shopping, you'll be spoilt for choice in Shanghai with the likes of Nanjing lu (Nanjing Road) which is close to The Bund. Nanjing lu is great if you're into the whole regular, big, modern shopping malls type environment. Nanjing Road is where the main shopping district is at but if you're looking for something more unique, Tianzifang is definitely a must-visit attraction in Shanghai. You'll be able to find some great souvenirs from Tianzi Fang while enjoying a more boutique shopping scene.
5 - Shanghai Urban City Planning Exhibition Center
A top attraction in Shanghai especially if you're into history and want to learn about how this incredible city came to be, is the Shanghai Urban City Planning Exhibition Center, located on People's Square. This is the perfect place to learn about Shanghai's history and future from an architectural and city planning point of view. The Shanghai Urban City Planning Exhibition Center is also commonly referred to as the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum.
Address: 100 Renmin Ave, Ren Min Guang Chang, Huangpu, Shanghai, China
6 - Huangpu River Cruise
One of the best ways to soak in the sights of Shanghai city is to take a boat cruise along Huangpu River. It's one of the must-do activities when visiting Shanghai because of the incredible views of the cityscape. We recommend going on the Huangpu River cruise closer to the evening so you get both the day and night views of Shanghai as well as an epic sunset if you're lucky. We took the regular route down Shiliupu Wharf. Huangpu River Cruise is a great way to relax and soak in Shanghai's cityscape. To get on the boat cruise for Huangpu River, simply visit any of the kiosks along The Bund to get your tickets.
If you live in or have visited Shanghai, share with us your suggestions for best things to do and must do activities :)

7 THINGS TO DO IN SHANGHAI | 20 HOUR LAYOVER | Shanghai China
China has a free 72 hour transit visa for flight layovers in major Chinese cities. I had a 22 hour layover in Shanghai (Pudong Airport). Here’s how I made the best use of my time exploring some of Shanghai's top attractions.
Note: As some recall , I lost a lot of China footage early this year. While I was unable to salvage my Beijing layover challenge, I’m glad I got to share Shanghai.
