My work created some discussion in Shanghai. It also sparked people to face problems they are ready or not ready to face -- Problems that are within themselves; problems that are about their self or their life.

23. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin): Shen Qibin, Director of Shanghai Zendai Museum of Modern Art:
After we selected this art piece and unveiled it in Shanghai, it resulted in some Shanghai residents' misunderstanding and unwillingness to accept it. This is the result of a rather simplistic view on public art that we've had for a long time. Normal people think public art is something that should beautify the city.

30. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin): Jiang Mei, art critic:
I think the most important issue in this is the place. If Liu Jin's art piece were in the museum, or in a specific area set aside for art exhibitions, then it wouldn't have caused so much reaction by the press or society. Because when the public enters a certain area where art is displayed, they have a certain expectation. They are coming to see a piece of art.

AP Television

32. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin): Liu Jin, artist:
Because it's a nude piece, when people see it, when the public faces it, there is a certain conflict. They say, 'Is this art?' They don't think this is art. They feel perplexed.
33. Close up showing empty wall and pull out to show Liu Jin walking
LEAD IN:
A number of Chinese artists are beginning to push the boundaries of their craft.
In Shanghai, one recently unveiled sculptures of his nude body to the public.
The reaction to the pieces took the city and the artist by surprise.
STORYLINE:
Their destination is Shanghai, where Liu Jin has hung six angels already.

Stefano Pasquini
PROJECT 2004
Overwhelmed by the quantity of information and art that was surrounding him, Stefano Pasquini decided that in 2004 he would produce one artwork every day. Soon he found out that the quick fix of one work a day wasn't enough, and made more and more works every day, reaching 17 works in one day. At the end of the year, the count was 578 artworks that included paintings, sculptures, photographs, watercolors, videos, music pieces, performances and entire exhibitions. On a busy day he would just scribble a little note or drawing on a tiny piece of paper, or just shoot something with his digital camera and call it the artwork for the day. While the project was going on, he updated the list online on his website stefanopasquini.net, that now includes a page for each work produced.
The implications for this project are of a philosophical nature: we're too many, and we produce too much. There are too many artists producing too much work, there's too much information, too much creativity: what can an artist do about it? One possible solution is to produce more than anyone else, implying that the opposite of quantity is not necessarily quality. The other solution was already tried by Maurizio Cattelan who asked collectors and galleries to sponsor that for a given year he would not produce any art.
Of course the most complete solution was already found by Marcel Duchamp when he stated there are no solutions, as there are no problems.
This video is a documentation of the 578 artworks that Stefano Pasquini made for Project 2004, and it was shown in Shangai on April 24th, 2008, as part of Intrude: Art & Life 366 curated by Shen Qibin and Zendai Museum of Modern Art,Shanghai, China.

New Himalaya Center in Shanghai Pudong
New Himalaya Center , Cultural and Business complex in Shanghai Pudong.
the Center represents a RMB2.4 billion mixed-use development in Shanghai's Pudong district that its developers, the Zendai Group ( Mr. Dai Zhikang), say would be an 'archisculptural icon for 21st century China'.
Designed by architect Arata Isozaki, the Center houses a theater, a 1,600-seater auditorium, an art museum, a shopping mall (called the Himalayas Mall), office space, and two luxury hotels in a dedicated hotel towel.
The two hotels are the boutique-style Zendai Hotel Yin and Zendai Art Hotel, both designed by celebrated interior designer Khuan Chew of KCA Interntional, who has worked on Dubai's 7-star Burj al Arab.
