FLORIDA KEYS VACATION | KEY WEST ATTRACTIONS
Come along with us to the Florida Keys for a quick vacation and visit to Key West! To celebrate Disney Cruise Line coming in to the port of Miami, we were invited to Miami for a kick-off party for Disney Cruise.
We felt this would be a great opportunity to turn a business trip into a Florida Keys vacation with the family by just tacking a few days on to the end of the trip for a visit to Key West.
Our plans included a snorkeling trip to the Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson, watching the sunset from Mallory Square, eating some great seafood, and relaxing by the pool.
We were able to accomplish some of these activities. The snorkeling trip to the Dry Tortugas proved to be prohibitively expensive. For our family of 4, plus Grandma, it would have cost nearly $800 for the ferry ride back and forth!! That seemed a bit excessive, so we just decided against that adventure.
The sunset at Mallory Square was great, as usual. We didn't get to see the crazy cat person show that we used to love, but found a new favorite that you can see in the video.
On our last full day, we decided to pay for the Old Towne Trolley tour bus. This proved to be a great learning opportunity for the kids and a great, inexpensive way to get around Key West. The trolley drivers go through a spiel that gives you much of the history of Key West. As we rode the trolley several times, the history of Key West was drilled into our heads. Good for kids learning more about the history of their state! We should have paid for the trolley the day before, though, as you get the next day free! We could have had 2 days for the price of 1! Something to keep in mind for your next Florida Keys vacation.
We had some awesome food, right at one of the marinas in Key West. Of course, tried some Key lime pie, and found some new places to visit in Key Largo, Marathon, and some of the other Florida Keys.
On our way home, we visited the Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park - 2 more Junior Ranger badges for our kids to add to their growing collection. Everglades National Park was really cool with lots of interesting roadside stops and hikes. Biscayne was pretty boring, unless you have or rent a boat, as it's mostly water.
We love the Florida Keys and can't wait to go back. Next time, though, we'll likely stay in Key Largo or another Florida Key and just do a day trip to Key West. This is what we normally do and enjoy the trip much more.

Seven miles across the bridge arrived at the southernmost island of Key West in the Florida Keys. Duval Street, the central street of the island. The island as tourists crowded the streets Indah finding the most. I'm walking down the street live performances from the restaurant stopped the pace. Follow the sound of music is hanging contains a dollar bill going everywhere inside. I thought yigeoni ornaments yiranda real money. And I started to attach more than one tip that guests are made to look now. The person who takes the cook costume in the middle of the street holding something gesture toward the bus. Turns out this guy was trying to advertising pie shop owner, and he had made a pie. So many guests went inside the store. Pie names selling here is the key lime pie, you can taste local specialties yiranda only in the Florida Keys. Key lime should guide offered to show Let's wonder differ from what yiraneunde type of lime that grows in the area directly, usually lime Persian limes seen in grocery stores. Key lime is smaller, the color is bright yellow and full of seeds. By refreshing this tart (put a fruit pie), taste when you created the pie.

SFWS (K Shave Worx) Florida Key Lime Oud
This review features the South Florida Wet Shavers branded Florida Key Lime Oud which is produced by K Shave Worxs on their behalf. K Shave Worx ( offers a plethora of wet shaving and grooming accouterments including shave soap, after shave splash and balms, brushes, razor restoration and makeup brushes. This artisan is a veteran owned small business comprised of a husband and wife combo. They are focused on quality and affordability and are based in upstate New York. I have had the pleasure of meeting the owners in person and I can attest to their friendliness and passion for their company.
Florida Key Lime Oud is a lime forward scent with a musky, resinous oud backbone. The scent is simplistic but works well as the sharp, citrusy lime meets the musky, dark oud. Citrus and oud pair very nicely together and this scent is quite masculine. Scent strength out of the container is mid and moved to light-mid once lathered and through the shaving process. Comparable scents from the wet shaving world are: Barrister & Mann Lime, Lavender, and Cedarwood or Wholly Kaw Lav Sublime Concerto.
This soap base from K Shave Worx is a vegan soap base. Ingredients are listed as: Stearic Acid, Water, Coconut Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Sodium Hydroxide, Castor Oil, Kokum Butter, Shea Butter, Sodium Lactate, Glycerin. The soap is of mid firmness and load very easily into your brush of choice. The loaded brush creates a lather quickly and without any appreciable effort. When dialed in, the consistency of the lather is light and fluffy like a meringue. It lacks the density that many current vegan soaps have achieved. The slickness of this soap is acceptable but nothing to rave about. In my opinion, the slickness would not be ideal for those that require good slickness during the shave. Post shave of the soap base is also acceptable but like slickness, leaves a lot to be desired. I do not feel like the post shave alone is enough and therefore would recommend using your aftershave product of choice. The shavescore for this soap base is a 73. This places the soap base in a class with Soap Commander and Ginger’s Garden.

Key lime pie is an American dessert pie made of Key lime juice, egg yolks, and sweetened condensed milk in a pie crust.[1] The traditional Conch version uses the egg whites to make a meringue topping.[2] The dish is named after the small Key limes (Citrus aurantifolia 'Swingle') that are naturalized throughout the Florida Keys. While their thorns make them less tractable, and their thin, yellow rinds more perishable, Key limes are more tart and more aromatic than the common Persian limes seen year-round at grocery stores in the United States. Key lime juice, unlike regular lime juice, is a pale yellow. The filling in a Key lime pie is also yellow, largely because of the egg yolks.[2]
During mixing, a reaction between the proteins of the egg yolks and condensed milk with the acidic lime juice occurs that causes the filling to thicken on its own without requiring baking. Early recipes for Key lime pie did not require baking the pie, relying on this chemical reaction (called thickening) to produce the proper consistency of the filling. Today, because consuming raw eggs can be dangerous, pies of this nature are usually baked for a short time. The baking also thickens the texture more than the reaction alone.
The Key lime pie has been traced back to the early 20th century in the Key West, Florida area.[citation needed] Its exact origins are unknown, but the first formal mention of Key lime pie as a recipe may have been made by William Curry, a ship salvager and Key West's first millionaire; his cook, Aunt Sally, made the pie for him. If such is the case, however, it is also possible and maybe even probable that Sally adapted the recipe already created by local sponge fishermen. Sponge fishermen spent many contiguous days on their boats, and stored their food on board, including nutritional basics such as canned milk (which would not spoil without refrigeration), limes and eggs. Fresh milk was not a common commodity in the Florida Keys before modern refrigerated distribution methods.[3] Sponge fishermen at sea would presumably not have access to an oven, and, similarly, the original recipe for Key lime pie did not call for cooking the mixture of lime, milk, and eggs.[4]

???? FLORIDA KEYS VACATION! ???? | MOVING TO THE FLORIDA KEYS
We're headed to the Florida Keys for a long vacation! Come along with us on this adventure!
The Florida Keys:
The Florida Keys are a coral cay archipelago located off the southern coast of Florida, forming the southernmost portion of the continental United States. They begin at the southeastern coast of the Florida peninsula, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West, the westernmost of the inhabited islands, and on to the uninhabited Dry Tortugas. The islands lie along the Florida Straits, dividing the Atlantic Ocean to the east from the Gulf of Mexico to the northwest, and defining one edge of Florida Bay. At the nearest point, the southern part of Key West is just 90 miles (140 km) from Cuba. The Florida Keys are between about 23.5 and 25.5 degrees North latitude.
The climate of the Keys is defined as tropical savanna according to Köppen climate classification. More than 95 percent of the land area lies in Monroe County, but a small portion extends northeast into Miami-Dade County, such as Totten Key. The total land area is 137.3 square miles (356 km2). As of the 2010 census the population was 73,090 with an average density of 532.34 per square mile (205.54/km2), although much of the population is concentrated in a few areas of much higher density, such as the city of Key West, which has 32% of the entire population of the Keys. The US Census population estimate for 2014 is 77,136.
The city of Key West is the county seat of Monroe County. The county consists of a section on the mainland which is almost entirely in Everglades National Park, and the Keys islands from Key Largo to the Dry Tortugas.
The Keys were originally inhabited by Calusa and Tequesta Native Americans, and were later found and charted by Juan Ponce de León in 1513. De León named the islands Los Martires (The Martyrs), as they looked like suffering men from a distance. Key is derived from the Spanish word cayo, meaning small island. For many years, Key West was the largest town in Florida, and it grew prosperous on wrecking revenues. The isolated outpost was well located for trade with Cuba and the Bahamas, and was on the main trade route from New Orleans. Improved navigation led to fewer shipwrecks, and Key West went into a decline in the late nineteenth century.

Florida Keys Culinary Team Creates Huge Key Lime Pie in Atlanta (Video)
Florida Keys chef and restaurateur Bobby Stoky lead a culinary team Saturday preparing a gargantuan Key Lime pie for guests in an upscale Atlanta, Georgia, shopping mall.
The pie was 8 feet in diameter -- the size certified by the World Record Association as the globe's largest -- and yielded servings for about 2,000 people.
Ingredients in the giant pastry include the juice from 5,766 Key limes, 200 pounds of graham crackers and 55 gallons of sweetened condensed milk. The finished dessert weighed around 1,000 pounds.
It's a balance between sweet and tangy that makes this pie absolutely delicious, Stoky said.
The pie was a facet of a continuing two-month-long advertising, public relations and sales campaign in the Metro Atlanta area funded by the Monroe County Tourist Development Council to create awareness of the Keys tourism product for the region's residents.
The Atlanta area is important to the Keys for spring and summer travel to our destination, said Stacey Mitchell, the TDC's director of marketing. This year is even more important as the Keys lodging entities continue to reopen following Hurricane Irma.
The TDC's sales department participated in the event to provide Keys tourism collateral materials to consumers.
Key lime pie is the official pie of Florida, as designated by the state legislature in 2006. Most historic accounts indicate Key lime pie was first created in the kitchen of the Curry Mansion in Key West and referred to as Key West pie.

DJI OSMO RIDES THROUGH KEY WEST FLORIDA WITH NARRATION
This video was made in Key West Florida during Spring Break 2016. I love visiting Key West and recommend that anyone that can go, should go. Once there, you will want to find Duval Street as that is where the party is at night. The people of Key West are very friendly and we always have a great time while visiting.
Duval Street (/ˈduvəhl/) is a famous downtown commercial zoned street in Key West, Florida, running north and south from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. From shore to shore, the street is just over 1.25 miles in length. It is named for William Pope Duval, the first territorial governor of Florida.
Duval Street was designated a “Great Street” in 2012 by the American Planning Association.[1] The beautiful Bahamian and Spanish influenced Victorian Mansions of Duval Street have been well preserved through local preservation efforts starting in the 1960s. On the Atlantic Ocean end of Duval Street there is a mix of early Key West Victorian mansions and bungalows’ dotting the neighborhood. Art galleries, boutiques, inns and Bodega’s line the wide sidewalks. Although this end of Duval is more residential and less filled with tourists, the sidewalks still bustle with activity.
Near the southern terminus of Duval Street is the buoy marker for the southernmost spot in the United States not far from the southernmost House, a striking Victorian architecture mansion built in 1896. A favorite of both Harry S. Truman and author Ernest Hemingway, the building was restored to its formal beauty and opulence with a $3 million renovation in 1996.
Duval Street well represents the cultural influence of Key West’s proximity and cultural ties to Cuba. Many Cubans immigrated to the area beginning in the late 1860s. At one time, the many cigar stores on Duval gave the city the moniker “Cigar City USA.” There are many pleasant outdoor cafes to enjoy another Cubano influenced product, “Cuban Coffee”, which is espresso made from roasted Cuban Coffee beans with a heavy dose of sugar.
At the north end, tourists from the cruise ships that dock at the Westin harbor complex, Mole pier or Mallory Square are often seen traversing Duval Street's many shops [1] in the afternoon looking for souvenir trinkets and T-shirts. The streets are congested with Pedi cabs, trollies, bikes, mopeds, cars, and the Conch Train all adding to the touristy feel of this heavily visited end of Duval.
Near the northern end of the street is Mallory Square. Historic Mallory Square is the center of Key West’s waterfront. The City of Key West and Duval Street share their beginning along this deep harbor waterfront.
On certain nights, the gulf shores of Duval Street often vibrate with a carnival like atmosphere that lasts until dawn and beyond. In fact, the ritual has a name known to tourists and residents as the “Duval Pub Crawl.” Duval is the location of many famous restaurants and bars, including Sloppy Joe's, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, which is the original, Fogarty's Restaurant, Bar and Bakery, The Flying Monkeys Bar, The Bull and Whistle, Rick's Cafe and Irish Kevin's bar. Tour outlets book the “Duval Pub Crawl” activity and provide knowledgeable guidance for the tourist wishing to visit and imbibe at the famous drinking establishments, for a fee.
A 1967 National Park Service survey of Historic American Buildings designated 18 buildings as historic. A full six blocks were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Further protection for this historically significant street has been created through the City’s, “Historic Architecture Guidelines,” approved in 2000, which sets standards for construction on Duval Street.
Key West is an island in the Straits of Florida on the North American continent, at the southernmost tip of the Florida Keys. The island is about 90 miles (140 km) from Cuba.
Key West is politically within the limits of the city of Key West, Monroe County, Florida, United States. The city also occupies portions of nearby islands.
The island is about 4 miles (6.4 km) long and 1 mile (1.6 km) wide, with a total land mass of 4.2 square miles (11 km2).[1] Duval Street, its famous main street, is a mere 1.1 miles (1.8 km) in length in its 14-block crossing from the Gulf of Mexico to the Florida Straits/Atlantic Ocean. In the late 1950s, many of the large salt ponds on the eastern side were filled in, nearly doubling the original land mass of the island. The island is 3,370 acres (13.6 km2) in area.[2]

About Us: We're on a mission to have as many travel adventures with our family while we can while our kids are still young. Kids grow up fast. We're intent on making the most of that time! We post a daily travel vlog of our adventures and vacations! We are NOT the typical family of four! We have a fun, crazy, and funny life full of adventure. We live and play in the most popular tourism destination in the world, Florida, right down the road from Mickey Mouse and Harry Potter! We homeschool our kids and own an online business that allows us a lot of exciting adventures.
