Nelson is a city on the eastern shores of Tasman Bay. Nelson is the oldest city in the South Island and the second-oldest settled city in New Zealand – it was established in 1841 and was proclaimed a city by royal charter in 1858.   • 2. McCashin's Brewery Nelson
    McCashin's Brewery is based in Nelson, New Zealand, and home to one of the pioneers of craft brewing. McCashin's Brewery started life as the Rochdale Cider factory in the late 1930s, however the current building was erected in the 1950s. It was purchased in 1981 by former All Black and farmer Terry McCashin and his wife Bev. They continued to make Rochdale Cider and began brewing craft beer, competing with the brewing duopoly of Lion Nathan and Dominion Breweries. Terry McCashin is credited with being ‘first in craft’ and starting the craft beer revolution in New Zealand, and changing the course of the beer industry in New Zealand. The Brewery was re-opened by the second generation of McCashin's in 2009. Stoke Beer was launched in 2010, and Rochdale Cider was re-branded and re-launched...
