Number five: skyline. Boasting a modern skyline with diverse arcitecture, Calgary is a great urban city with opportunities for dining, shopping and entertainment.
Number four: Calgay Zoo. Including a botanical garden, the zoo has been here for 75 years. Interacting with wildlife here makes for an excellent family outing.
Number three: City Hall. Considered to be a national historic site, this magnificent sandstone structure was constructed in 1911, in place of an earlier wooden structure.
Number two: Banff National Park. Located outside of Calgary, this great national park of Canada is spread over a massive area, and offers spectacular mountain scenery.
And number one: Calgary Tower. Constructed in 1968, the iconic tower is one of the tallest structures in Canada. At the top, you are treated to an excellent view of Calgary.

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Kilbirnie a small town situated in the Garnock Valley area of North Ayrshire, on the west coast of Scotland. It is located around 20 miles south west of Glasgow and approximately 10 miles from Paisley and Irvine respectively. Historically, the town built up around the flax and weaving industries before iron and steelmaking took over in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1740 there were only three houses; the population grew to 959 people by 1801. In 1851 Kilbirnie contained 5,484 people, due to the Industrial Revolution, hastened by the locality of the Ayr and Glasgow railways. During this time the town was a hub of industrial activity with 2 flax spinning mills, linen thread mills, wincey factories, 5 fishing net factories, 2 rope works, engineering works, mines and ironworks. The steelworks opened in 1841 and quickly became the main industry in the area causing an inpouring of people and during the early to mid 20th Century the town grew to its height of around 10,000 people. However, the industry entered a decline and was eventually closed. The Decoy Bride a film starring David Tennant and Kelly Macdonald was partially filmed in Kilbirnie. The suburb of Kilbirnie in the New Zealand capital of Wellington is named after the town. Girvan is stituated on the east coast of the Firth of Clyde, 21 miles South of Ayr, and 29 miles North of Stranraer, and is the main ferry port from Scotland to Northern Ireland. The opening of the railways, initially with the Maybole and Girvan Railway at the end of the 1850s, encouraged the development of Girvan as a seaside resort with beaches and cliffs. Most of the streets in the south east of Girvan are named after trees, examples are Maple Drive, Elder Avenue, Pine Quadrant, etc. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

The View From Above Rankinston (1200ft asl), East Ayrshire, Scotland (7nov2011)
I was climbing a couple of very easy hills (I mean REALLY easy, 1200ft asl but we parked near the top!) with two friends today. The view was quite nice with some low lying mist off in the distance. My only regret is that we didn't stay up there another fifteen minutes or so (it was turning really cold!), as the sunset against the mist was quite nice.
Filmed using my Panasonic Lumix TZ9,the clip starts looking towards the west, at the Carrick hills. As I pan to the north, past Arran in the Firth of Clyde, you can see the towns of Ayr, Prestwick etc. Off in the distance (56 miles according to Google Earth, and 3192ft above sea level), Ben Lomond is clearly visible.
