  • 3. Kurobe Gorge Kurobe
    The Kurobe Dam or Kuroyon Dam , is a variable-radius arch dam on the Kurobe River in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. It supports the 335 MW Kurobe No. 4 Hydropower Plant and is owned by Kansai Electric Power Company. At 186 metres in height, it is the tallest dam in Japan. It was constructed between 1956 and 1963 at a cost of ¥51.3 billion yen. The project was a difficult engineering feat for the rapidly growing post–World War II Japan, and claimed the lives of 171 people.

    Mitsukejima is an uninhabited island in Suzu, Ishikawa, Japan. Because of its shape, it is also known as Gunkanjima , which is also the common name given to Hashima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture. According to folklore, the island was given the name Mitsukejima by the Buddhist monk, scholar, and artist, Kūkai, who was the first to discover the island while travelling from Sado Island. Mitsukejima is approximately 150 metres long, 50 metres wide, and 30 metres above sea level. It is composed of Neogene period diatomaceous earth, the raw materials commonly used for shichirin, a portable clay cooking stove which is a specialty product of Suzu.
