Gidgegannup is a township 40 kilometres northeast of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. The name Gidgegannup comes from a Noongar word meaning Place where spears are made, and was first recorded by passing surveyors in 1852.The townsite is situated on Toodyay Road. The locality is drained by the north flowing Wooroloo and Gidgegannup Brooks. Due to low density development, considerable amounts of natural vegetation remain in the area - and the roads to the north of Toodyay road have been designated Wildflower Scenic Drive.The Gidgegannup Agricultural Society has had over 60 shows at the Gidgegannup showgrounds.

    Cohunu Koala Park is a wildlife sanctuary on 14 ha of bushland at Byford, near Perth, Western Australia.It features not only koalas, but also dingoes, kangaroos, emus, wallabies, eagles, wombats, echidnas, black swans, cockatoos, and lifelike replicas of dinosaurs.The park was established by the Sorbello family as Cohuna Wildlife Park at the former East Martin site in 1972-1973 . The park's koala colony was established in 1982 at Mills Park Road in Gosnells, with four koalas from South Australia. In 2005, the park was moved to Nettleton Road, Byford. Its koala colony now has over 25 koalas.Between 10 am and 4 pm daily, visitors to the park may be photographed cuddling a koala, at an additional charge.
