Sollières-Sardières is a former commune in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. On 1 January 2017, it was merged into the new commune Val-Cenis. It is located the heart of the Alps in the upper Maurienne valley 120 km long. Part of the region is within the alpine national park of Vanoise. The remaining land is not included in the protected area called zone peripherique which has lesser environmental protection enforcement rules. Some flowers can only be found in the heights of the commune and in boreal regions. It has a small airstrip ICAO code: LFKD

  • 1. Lac de Serre-Poncon Savines Le Lac
    Lake Serre-Ponçon is a reservoir in the departments of Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in southeast France, one of the largest in Western Europe. The lake gathers the waters of the Durance and the Ubaye rivers, flowing down through the Hautes-Alpes and the Alpes du Sud to the Rhône River. The waters are dammed by the Barrage de Serre-Ponçon, a 123-metre high earth core dam. As well as water control, sixteen hydroelectric plants use the water , and the lake provides irrigation to 1,500 square kilometres of land.
