Kaushambi Tourism
Kaushambi is a newly created district out of Allahabad. It consists of major towns such as Chail, Manjhanpur, Bharwari, Kashiya Muratganj, Sirathu, Karari and Kara.It is very easy to reach Kaushambi by road; it is approximately 45 km from Allahabad. This site is good for history lovers who have interest in ancient history.Many Kaushambi artifacts are in Allahabad Museum. It has a few excavated sites, including a Pillar of Ashoka with inscriptions in Pali; surrounding the pillar is a historic site of ruins of the Vatsa Mahajanapada and its university.There is a Jain derasar 14 km from Sarai Akil. The soil is very fertile and it is world-famous for the Surkha Guava. The Surkha region lies mainly in Allahabad.

Kausani is a small Hill town in the Bageshwar District of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. The views from the Town is so beautiful, that once Mahatama Gandhi called the place Switzerland of India during his brief stay at the Town. The town is very peacefull and one can enjoy the beautiful view of the Himalayas from almost any part of the Town.
The temperature is pleasant in the summer months and extremely cold in the winter seasons. One can do trekking in the various surroundings around Kausani. The panoramic view of the Nanda Devi Biosphere from a distance of 300 kms away is simply breathtaking.
Get around
Gandhi Ashram is the most sought after place by the tourists. This is the place where Mahatma Gandhi stayed briefly and written the 'Anashakti Yog'. The Ashram is situated on the upper part of the Town. Inside the Ashram, (Photography not allowed) consists of various pictures of the great leader in differenet phases of his life. The view of the Himalayas can be viewed from this Ashram also is quite splendid.
Baijnath Temple, situated around 20 kms north from Kausani Town and is a series of small / big temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Feeding the fishes just beside the temple is considered a ritual after offering your pujas.
If you have time in hour hand, half a day may be reserved for Rudradhari. It is 20 kms away from Kausani, and a unique experience of 1 Km trekking through the mountains and beautiful scenary to reach the century old Lord Shiva temple.

कौशाम्बी का इतिहास, रामायण और महाभारत के काल का है। यह जगह, महाभारत के 16 वें क्षेत्रों में से एक है जो वत्स महाजनपाद की राजधानी हुआ करती थी। इस स्थल का उल्लेख रामायण और महाभारत, पुराणों में भी मिलता है, इसकी स्थापना एक चेदी राजकुमार कुश या कुशम्बा ने की थी। कौशाम्बी को भारत में भगवान बुद्ध के जीवनकाल के 6 समृद्ध शहरों में से एक माना जाता है। यह स्थल देश के चारों कोनों से व्यापार और वाणिज्य के केंद्र होने के कारण यात्रियों के लिए खास था। इस शहर की खुदाई के दौरान कई पुराने सिक्के, मूर्तियां, स्तुप और अन्य सामग्री निकली, जो वहां के गौरवशाली इतिहास की दांस्ता बंया करते है। यहां के कुछ प्रमुख स्मारकों में अशोक स्तम्भ, एक जैन मंदिर, एक पत्थर का किला और गोसिता मठ है। इस जगह भगवान बुद्ध बोध ज्ञान प्राप्त होने के 6 और 9 वें साल में उपदेश देने आएं थे। पुराना कौशाम्बी, बौद्ध धर्म के अनुयायियों के लिए प्रमुख गंतव्य स्थल है।
पुराणों के अनुसार हस्तिनापुर नरेश निचक्षु ने, जो परीक्षित का वंशज (युधिष्ठर से सातवीं पीढ़ी में) था, हस्तिनापुर के गंगा द्वारा बहा दिए जाने पर अपनी राजधानी वत्स देश की कौशांबी नगरी में बनाई थी—अधिसीमकृष्णपुत्रो निचक्षुर्भविता नृपः यो गंगयाऽपह्नते हस्तिनापुरे कौशंव्यां निवत्स्यति। इसी वंश की 26वीं पीढ़ी में बुद्ध के समय में कौशांबी का राजा उदयन था। इस नगरी का उल्लेख महाभारत में नहीं है, फिर भी इसका अस्तित्व ईसा से कई शतियों पूर्व था। गौतम बुद्ध के समय में कौशांबी अपने ऐश्वर्य के मध्याह्नाकल में थी। जातक कथाओं तथा बौद्ध साहित्य में कौशांबी का वर्णन अनेक बार आया है। कालिदास, भास और क्षेमेन्द्र कौशांबी नरेश उदयन से सम्बन्धित अनेक लोककथाओं की पूरी तरह से जानकारी थी।
कौशांबी से एक कोस उत्तर-पश्चिम में एक छोटी पहाड़ी थी, जिसकी प्लक्ष नामक गुहा में बुद्ध कई बार आए थे। यहीं श्वभ्र नामक प्राकृतिक कुण्ड था। जैन ग्रंथों में भी कौशांबी का उल्लेख है। आवश्यक सूत्र की एक कथा में जैन भिक्षुणी चंदना का उल्लेख है, जो भिक्षुणी बनने से पूर्व कौशांबी के एक व्यापारी धनावह के हाथों बेच दी गई थी। इसी सूत्र में कौशांबी नरेश शतानीक का भी उल्लेख है। इसकी रानी मृगावती विदेह की राजकुमारी थी। मौर्य काल में पाटलिपुत्र का गौरव अधिक बढ़ जाने से कौशांबी समृद्धिविहीन हो गई। फिर भी अशोक ने यहाँ प्रस्तरस्तम्भ पर अपनी धर्मलिपियाँ—संवत 1 से 6 तक उत्कीर्ण करवायीं। इसी स्तम्भ पर एक अन्य धर्मलिपि भी अंकित है, जिससे बौद्ध संघ के प्रति अनास्था दिखाने वाले भिक्षुओं के लिए दण्ड नियत किया गया है। इसी स्तम्भ पर अशोक की रानी और तीवर की माता कारुवाकी का भी एक लेख है।
